The 'Models of the models' were actually the Century 21 toys that were made by J Rosenthal and were available in toyshops for Christmas 1965

The Toys of Thunderbirds 1,2 & 3 were commercially Available from a company called "Rosenthal" at the time of Thunderbirds original screening in 1965/66 here in the UK. The Toys sold in their Millions especially at Christmas 1965 when Santa popped one(Thunderbird 2) in this then 5 Year olds Christmas sack that year. This Special Christmas Episode was broadcast in 1966.

Maith agat, a Bhean Úasail Chipman for giving "Thunderbirds" another go, some random recommendations (that have Penelope in them) (1): Day of Disaster (2): The Mighty Atom (3): The Impostors (4): The Cham-Cham (5): Danger at Ocean Deep (6): Atlantic Inferno Flying Thunderbird 3 is typically a two-person job, (Scott usually joins Alan) Hope you get better, Slán!

Honestly, a lot of Thunderbird fans aren’t into this episode, but it was good to see you watching another one. 😊 Maybe you could try the CGI remake that was made in 2015. You never know, you might prefer that one.

Bless You, for giving my all-time favourite TV programme a viewing. I was 6 years old in 1970 when I first saw this. And my Christmas that year was perfect because I had my first Thunderbirds model on the day...a Dinky Thinderbird Two. Played with it all into Boxing Day until the twin Red rocket boosters broke off...and I cried till New Years Day, because they wouldn't glue back on!! Thanks for this reaction, Alexa. Laughed all the way through it.😂😂 That episode made my day Christmas in 1970. In fact I'll give it another view. Its not one I watch often Howabout giving reactions on Thunderbirds another chance After you've completed Captain Scarlet perhaps?

Unfortunately Thunderbirds is really hard to get unblocked- this one took four tries and about 12 hours to make! The copyright holder is extremely anti-reactor.

@@alexachipman I know that feeling well: I produced a video of Thunderbird 2 changing Pods but It's officially blocked. I'd be interested to see your take on the first episode, 'Trapped in the Sky' which features an atomic-powered airliner, Fireflash, carrying 600 passenger. Can International Rescue save them before they die from Radiation exposure?

Well Alexa, I'm surprised you reviewed this episode after your less than stellar review of the first episode of this series. But it does fit in well with the season. As always your attention to details is amazing. That tree at the party almost reminds me of the one from the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Except this one wasn't wilted yet.

The last episode, first shown in the UK on Christmas Day 1966. Re what you said, Alexa, re wanting to know whether an episode is thematic to a season (eg Christmas or Halloween), other Christmassy episodes are Twilight Zone (Night of the Meek), The Avengers (Too Many Christmas Trees), Joe 90 (The Unorthodox Shepherd), The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (The Blue Carbuncle, the Jeremy Brett one which I think you may have seen?). And all of the BBC series A Ghost Story For Christmas.

Great reaction. I grew up watching Thunderbird's, and still love it. Have you ever thought about reacting to 'Stingray.' It is pre Thunderbird's, and although the puppets are a little more basic, there is some good under water model work. It was also the first Gerry Anderson show to be made in colour.

Both Stingray & Fireball XL5 would be even better, if time & copyright constraints allowed. Robbie the Robot in the latter was my first experience of a talking robot. Gerry Anderson did his voice partly by using an electrolarynx unit. Robbie was also only the 2nd Robot I had ever seen after those in Space Patrol.

For a bunch of people who are constantly worried about their organisation remaining a secret, they are horribly lax when it comes to security. Over time, enough people would have heard the family name mentioned in connection with IR that someone could join the dots and work out who it is.

Thank you for introducing me to the other Supermarionation shows because I was only familiar with the Thunderbirds. I hadn't seen the Thunderbirds in years when I saw a clip from a movie called "Team America: World Police" which was made in 2004. I thought it would be nostalgia and fun to see. I was kind of fun but really shocked me because it is very adult and outrageous. Be prepared if you ever care to react to it.

Its a shame your ‘should I watch this’ for Thunderbirds no longer seems to be available (at least where I am). I’m inferring from what you’ve said in this one that you found some aspects of problematic. That is a pity, because whilst most people reflexively say Doctor Who is the Britain’s greatest Sci Fi show, Thunderbirds is one of its few serious contenders. On the other hand, I really relate to that feeling - when I delved into the Andersons’ back catalogue as an adult I found some things really jarring; I grew up with Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet so by the time I was aware enough to notice their problems they were deeply entrenched in nostalgia (but it was really noticeable when I went back to Fireball XL5, Four Feather Falls etc). I think the Supermarionation shows when taken as a whole actually say a lot of good things about technical and social progress in TV, in part because of their serious flaws (a dimension that would be missed looking only at Captain Scarlet). Those shows were made over a relatively short period (1960 to 69) by substantially the same production team making - at least nominally - new show each year. Its a rare thing to see a team given the opportunity to invent a new cast of characters and format coming back with technical leaps, more social awareness and more diverse year-by-year. The social progress is particularly noticeable on sexism (probably Silvia’s influence). There is some really chauvinistic stuff in XL5 and Stingray; by Thunderbirds that begins to be subverted (characters are often sexist, but to the audience they look foolish for it); by 67 and Captain Scarlet we have the Angels - our all female team of international ace pilots (although that’s still weirdly segregated). Arguably the Supermarionation shows are half a decade or more ahead of Star Trek on that issue (which was always a big blindspot in an otherwise very progressive show). The technical leap between Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet is particularly big (moving from more caricature, puppets to the accurately proportioned ones - courtesy of a major redesign of the electronics) - but there is a progression between every show. Also, moving Captain Scarlet to a world where every building has a convenient travelator so there is no more awkward puppet walking, didn’t hurt >.

Thunderbirds is almost impossible to get unblocked. This one as I recall took 8 re-edits and probably a total of 20+ hours to make. Although I am not hugely enthusiastic about the show, I would still likely have reacted to it for everyone, but not with RU-vid basically saying “NO”
