Open passing (gold/slow advanced) group. Today was the hottest track day since I've been able to really push the car. Ambient temps got up to ~88F, and, despite the upgraded cooling, I have no more doubts that the car is definitely not an endurance car. I'll need to continue working on managing the heat and timing cooldown laps properly. From what I can tell though, the car get rids of the heat very quickly. The strategy on hot days will probably look like 2-3 push laps into 1 cooldown lap.
Getting a bunch of 1'26s when my tires were on their last day tell me I can def get a 1'25. I still need to find the courage/skill to take T3 at 80+, but I got pretty close a few times. The main improvement today was the lift-turn-throttle sequence into T5, allowing me to finally hit triple digits in that section. Other than that, I improved my vision in a bunch of places leading to more precise/deliberate steering, but there's more work to be done on that. Not sure when I'll be back at this track, but hopefully I can hit 1'25 with fresher tires.
Going to be taking a bit of a break from track days, but I'll be back in August for my first Laguna of the year. As for setup changes, the plan is to raise the car, put in Turner FLCAs, keep the front camber the same (3.3-ish), reduce the rear camber to 1.9, and hopefully get rid of the rubbing. I might also put in the SPL endlinks that's collecting dust in storage, and also an oil cooler (maybe OEM or something else). I'm not super excited for Laguna since I don't find the track to be engaging enough, but it'll be interesting to see what times I can put down since last time I was there, I was nowhere near my current level.

Really nice driving overall Chris! Probably with fresh tires and a cool morning a 1:24 would be possible? Your T4 and T6 look really good, way better than mine lol. T5 exit also looks very sorted. Like you said, there's probably some time on the table at T3, but the line looked good to me. The other thing I noticed was the left-hand kink into T1. Do you think you could take that closer to 90 mph?

Thanks Nico! Maaaybe I can do a 1'24, but a low 1'25 is definitely possible. I'm thinking a faster T3 will net me a couple tenths, but not much more since I think my throttle application through it is already good. T8 is the other low hanging fruit. I need to apply more throttle after committing to the turn before the hill, which can probably get me one or two more tenths but not much more since it's heavy braking right away. As for T1, I did try taking it faster at the end of the day (85 at 1:05:05), so I think I can get one or two more tenths out of that. An issue I have with that kink is that I don't fully trust my shocks to be compliant enough since they're on the stiffer settings. Also, my pads might not have enough initial bite to slow me down if my entry is too fast. My goal for the T1 kink is to carry enough speed through it that I'm not having to add much throttle after turning and before braking. I'm thinking with these changes I can get times down to just below 1'26. Not sure if fresher tires and cooler weather will get me a full second though. I didn't feel that I was losing much lateral grip despite basically having no tread after the day. The understeer at turn-in did get progressively worse, but it could also just be driver error. Once I do get down to 1'25, I'll ask Joe to drive it without me in the car so he can set a new target.

@@chrispy28 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense about the shock compliance. I realized looking at my videos that my tires weren't making any sound over the T1 kink (not near the limit), and it turns out I can actually take it flat out in the BRZ at ~90 mph. Sometimes it helps to have plush suspension lol. Also good point about T8. In the BRZ it's flat with 200 tw tires, but one thing I found useful on the stock tires to mediate the speed there is to short shift if necessary and stay flat all the way through. That way you don't have to worry about when to lift and get back to gas. I would guess about ~80 mph at the crest should be possible given your cornering speeds elsewhere?

@@bpt582 I'm definitely still going to try hitting the kink closer to 90. If I upset the car too much, then pray for me that I can save it. My T8 target is ~85 max and 80 min. I did hit 86 in one lap but I ended up missing the braking point completely lol. Based on Joe's lap on AD09s, he was able to hit ~80 as he's turning into it, but he was more aggressive with the throttle during and after cresting, keeping the speed ~80 and still hit 85 and not blow the braking point. With the RS's, I should be able to do it a bit faster. I shouldn't have to change my shifting there since I'm able to just hit 4th gear before turn-in.
