On the last day of a ski vacation in Park City, I ran into a ski lift pole and broke my right tibia and fibula.
That was 3 years ago and in this video I’m going to share how I’m doing now and some lessons I’ve learned along the way to hopefully help you out if you find yourself contending with this or any other major injury.

I broke my tib and fib skiing in March 2023. I have 4 screws and a titanium rod in my tibia. Watching your videos totally helped. Thank you for the updates. To anyone who is in the early stages of your recovery, don't give up! It's going to be hard work, but you can do it. It's been barely a year out since my breaks happened and I'm in a much better place both mentally and physically.

I’m one week post my surgery. Tibial plateau fracture on my left leg and two plates with 73 staples. It’s been hard for sure, even lonely at times, but I’m just grateful to have help at home for daily stuff and know that I’ll be able to walk again. That was my main thing, to be able to walk again. Being a sprinter and weightlifter is also a huge benefit to my recovery, so my advice to others is don’t skip your workouts cause it’ll help in one way or another. I still can’t put weight on my leg but I’m finding hobbies and still doing lifting and even bought ankle weights to work my right leg. My advice to others is to stay positive and find hobbies to do even in bed. I know it sucks. We need to be grateful it wasn’t our head or spine or anything else that would keep us in bed forever. You will recover 🙏🏽

Shattered my ankle and Tib in a surfing disaster ( hit by a renegade board ) and just getting enough mobility back two yrs later to even consider jogging without pain. I’m carrying more metal down there than iron man! Walking stairs with my KBs helped a bunch to build my leg strength back up.

Hi I’m 8 weeks post surgery I used to use two crutches now I use one crutch and I don’t enjoy it. I run my business on the phone from the sofa . I do the exercices in your video about three times a week and I intend to work out a lot as much as I can . Hope to start PT this week or next week.

I’m 56. Broke my left tib/fib plus ankle skiing 9 years ago. fell backwards and binding didn’t release. Titanium rod and 4 screws. it was up and down as my left calf was sooo tight. I spent 12 weeks having a PT use the graston tool scraping out adhesions. Made a major difference. I work out with a trainer 3x per week. Huge. I can squat, and do mostly everything i used to. I have a little different strength pushing off on box step ups and i can’t really run much. The best thing i did was walk around barefoot. Helped with all of the pain in both feet. Very frustrating but i’m glad i made it back.

17 months post trimaleolar fracture- this video is good. Thank you. Would love to go back to running - lots of gym work from 9 months onward helped a lot,

I got the same injury as you did. Still at non weight bearing stage. The ankle is a bit stiff, but its motion angle is almost as good as the other one. Feel so confident to go back to the sport. I

Thanks for this upload! I am now just over 7-months post tib/fib fracture and continuing to progress. I have been back in the gym now for about 4-months and have got majority of my lifts back in addition to the 15lbs of body weight I lost due to the injury. I still struggle with movements such as lunge steps and leg press but will continue to work at it. Did you encounter any struggles with dorsiflexion and your flexor hallucis longus? I also have herniated fascia from surgery.

Thanks for the video. It’s very encouraging to hear you are running again! Have you tried running on uneven surfaces? I had similar tibia/fibula break. 2 plates. 20 screws. I would love to go back to trail running and hiking..

I have! In fact, I hiked the Na Pali Coast Trail in Kauai last year. Get good boots and work your ankle stability!

Did you go back to ski last season? If so, how do you feel with the hardware in the tight and stiff ski boots? Does it bothers you?

Hello, 6 months ago I broke my right kneecap, it was a stable fracture so no surgery needed, however after 6 months, while the bone itself is heald, my right leg still feels weak due to lack of muscle, how long does it realistically take to rebuild the muscle I lost on my injured leg assuming I go 3x a week to PT?

What was your training like pre-injury?

@@ZackHenderson I bearly trained, I'm a college student and was focussing mostly on my studies. However I wasn't a couch potato either nor overweight. I did a lot of cycling but not really any training.

Healing takes time. Keep your mind active, try and get some good sleep and eat some calcium rich foods if you can. It's going to get better ❤
