Tidal Wave is so overpowered, it can literally break the game. Gotta love a move so powerful, not even the game can comprehend it.

I guess we can just say doing tidal wave is like dropping a nuke on the game's programming.

What happens if your current HP is overwritten to something larger than your max HP using memory corrupting shenanigans? will it treat it like you actually have that much HP when you take damage? would healing snap you back to the maxHP value?

I would love to see this end up leading into some sort of ACE glitch or something, but sadly, I know little of programming or coding or such that's important for finding such info, but I'm still quite interested! Good luck! By the way, what was it like getting to 98 Star Points in the Tutankoopa fight? Tedious? Also, what if you tried to go to 100 or more, if you could? After all, 100 is needed for a level-up. Does Mario skip a level? Does it crash? Do you gain 2 at once? Also regarding the Tutankoopa fight, I noticed in it, the small star that usually appears with no damage, and some... "action command result text" appearing. Japanese, which appeared to read "No hit". Having played Paper Mario a few times, but in English, it seems unfamiliar to me. Did I maybe just forget the English equivalent to such a message existed? What's the deal with it, Japanese or English? Oh, and I suppose I should ask: Sushi can deal like... 14 damage at least with just one move, right? Admittedly, for 6 FP. Is it ever used in TASes or speedruns? Admittedly, it's a lot compared to Power Bounce, and I can see the animation and possible lag being deterrents from using it in those. Not to mention you have to use 2 Super Blocks on her to get it anyway.... Anyway, sorry about all the questions and rambling! Great video, Stryder!

I think this guy deserves way more subscribers than he currently has. Some of the stuff he does is pretty cool and amazing, and he's really good at this game. His videos have good quality content that is very interesting and amazing. I wish he had way more subscribers and more views.

You're definitely onto some kind of stack overflow nonsense here, that's exciting. Merluvlee's spell triggering in the battle is another possible sprite and effect to load at the same time, but by the sound of it none of these effects aside from the usual 'status bar holding whatever gets overflowed from seemingly anywhere' effect actually persists after the battle?

Does sushie's tidal wave only cause glitches if it's completely maxed out? I know this is tool assisted in order to maximize the capability, but is it feasibly possible to glitch tidal wave without TAS?

Do we know if any of the nearby bytes are worth corrupting? From what I remember the initial screen of the pause menu is the majority of the values....so does this mean if you overflow it enough you could theoretically corrupt the amount of badge points you have? Then we'd have to consider the actual hard limit of how high the number can get based on input frames and the time you have for tidal wave... The problem is the corrupted star point image likely means bitmaps are in between the actual values we're interested in. Every damn byte is another 256 you need to overflow... I'm thinking this might not yield much depending on how their instances are organized, but if they're convenient enough you might be able to find something akin to Reverse Bottle Adventure in Paper Mario...which would proceed to blow everything out of the water (ha)

You know what I think? I think it ends up overwriting RAM that holds sprites, and when you go beyond that it crashes because you start overwriting something else.

How exactly do you manage to input that many buttons for Tidal Wave? Some kind of Tool Assist? 0.o

I used Tidal Wave against Huff n Puff on the Wii U virtual console, and only the music cuts out and a frame stays on slightly longer.

It doesn't even make sense that Tidal Wave accesses those variables. Why does it need to access how Star Point icons are rendered?
