Tying in to cast iron with PVC is a great way to add new waste lines. No-hub couplings make it easy to connect to existing cast-iron drain, waste, or vent lines with new PVC pipe. Here's how to do it.
This is why I love RU-vid. Thank you! Exactly what I needed to learn and with some great tips also. You just removed all my fear of my nasty old cast iron waste line.
RU-vid is great isn't it. Not only that but there's a ton of plumbers on RU-vid showing all their tips and tricks. I think they do it because it gives their business more exposure but it also helps people that don't have the funds to do certain jobs. I've fixed my dryer, furnace and some plumbing issues thanks to professionals sharing their expertise on RU-vid. As long as you can find your lines, you can fix almost any plumbing issue in your house without calling a plumber. Just be sure to watch multiple videos before you fix anything. Videos like this one are more in general whereas the actual plumbers go into more detail. Sometimes things are a little more complicated than videos such as this one make it out to be.
Have a leak, and of course, it's in the wall somewhere behind the sink. We dont have normal drywall. We have something called rock lathe with 3 layers of plaster. Cast iron drain and sewer pipes. This quick fix will give me time to afford a plumber. It's never simple!!
The only issue with those is it is challenging/impossible to retrofit in a drain connection with those. When doing a stack through the roof that's clearly the only way to go. The Ferncos are prone to failure but as long as you don't put them in the wall and check them "regularly" you can catch them in a few years when they fail or need to be re-tightened.
David Moutardier you mean cutting wheel? the grinding wheel will take firever to make a fine cut as you are basically sanding away at the metal bit by bit
Getting ready to repair one this morning....,broke my sawzaw yesterday and was wondering if there was a way to cut with my grinder.....thanks for your post ......
Great video! About to try it. But....am i the only one that heard...."Hours required.. 1 and a quarter inches?" I listened 12 times. Just a technical flaw....still great video! Thanks
LMAO yeah buy those blades that are 20 a piece and barely get through 1 pipe. Just use a grinder folks. The blade is 4 dollars and will go much further.
bullshit…the blades like the one in the video are over $20, but last a long time. A grinder for that is sketchy. I know of somebody who died from taking a broken grinder blade to the face trying to cut cast iron.
