You say they may be old. But they are still made. Along with the service kits and new seals. Thanks for sharing. Great film.

I'm sure you know - but didn't mention it, that beware of inhaling any of the old mantle dust. It contains nasties that are best not breathed in! As a Tilley (and Bialaddin) collector/enthusiast I thought your presentation was very good. Yes, flare-ups or wet lights are usually caused by folk trying to pump the paraffin up too quickly. Take your time and all will be fine. Thanks very much for the vid. Happiness is a big shed with a gently hissing Tilley !

Is it possible to remove a dent out of the tank by using steam pressure or by gentle use of compressed air to raise the dent out as I've been offered a pair one of which has a serious dent in the tank.

Actually your intro is quite good , l just couldn’t get the connection, but hey , everyone to their own . No offence l hope . I’m thinking I shouldn’t have commented especially when you have learnt me how to bring my old Tilley lamp back to life . Keep up the good work and yes you’ve had an adventurous life and well done for that too . You must have lots of nice memories. Bill .

Bill it’s great to have feedback. Very glad you got the Tilly back up and running. I am a big fan as you may have guest. I will need to do a full service at some point which you may find of interest. If you have any issues give me a shout you can fix almost everything quite easily.

I just bought my first Tilley and I know absolutely nothing about them... what would be a good start to learning what fuels to use and such? Also I don't have a preheating cup for mine Is it necessary? Not sure what this paraffin is you talk of . I've only had Coleman lanterns Any guidance would be appreciated

Hi I would like some advice because i have got old and my fingers do not work like they use to and my hand shakes(not much hope for me to put a mantle on). The question is -can you use a metal mantle?. I use this lamp more for heat when mini camping than light so i thought something like radiator mantel could be fitted. Can you give us some advice to solve my problem.?. thanks Micky
@shedadventures7225
@shedadventures7225 Год назад
Hi Micky old age is catching up with us all sadly. My view is that the best solution would be to find some young fingers to help while you direct. I now get my needles threaded by my grandson as my eyes just don’t work that well any more. It needs dexterity rather than strength. A replacement if carefully used will last years. I would not recommend a metal manual.

@shedadventures7225
@shedadventures7225 Год назад
Ok had a look and I do not think you have an issue as it is still giving off lots of light and indeed heat which is good. So I would in all honesty not worry about the shape to much. If concerned next time you change it just try to get it like a flying saucer even all round. Good luck

Hi do you know the thread size of tilley burner spigot part 707

tilleylamp.co.uk. Hi Sir see the link I would talk with the uk manufacturer. They should have that level of detail to hand.

I don't know why, I am not a clumsy person and I do have genuine Tilley mantles (From Tilley International here in the UK) but I simply cannot get them over the spigots. Both the larger and the smaller holes seem to be just too small and the string breaks when I try to tease it over the spigot. Do you have any thoughts on this please?
@shedadventures7225
@shedadventures7225 Год назад
Hi John, in the video you can see me struggle. Yes it’s tight but I have never broken a string. We will assume the right mantle. You have genuine ones as you point out. Two thoughts you could try old stock off eBay. Things like tooling and suppliers do change over time. Or could be a bad batch. You could also try with nimble fingers to undo the knot and get a tiny bit more slack. The later would be my first port of call. Worth a try!! Finally things do stretch. So perhaps fit on as tight as it will go and leave over night and just try the last bit next day. Let me know how you get on

Very glad you enjoyed the video. I appreciate the well done. The short intro is an attempt to put some context into what is in my shed. I also think it is important to show the relevance of my advice. What is it based on and should you give my views any credence. However, I only put it on every few videos as I am aware it is a bore to my regular subscribers. So good point well made.

what fuel do you use?
@shedadventures7225
@shedadventures7225 Год назад
Hi Suhardono. The Tilly Lamps runs on Paraffin, sometimes called Kerosene. The lighting wick uses Methylated spirits. I hope this helps

@@yose838 you must use the correct fuel for the lamp. A Tilly lamp uses paraffin or kerosene only. Not Petrol. You can get a Colman lamp designed for Petrol. Use the correct fuel for the lamp.
