There's a channel called wisecrack and they did a video about this. Like how comedians went from "laughter" to "clapter" like they just say shit for applause. Not to make you laugh.
@ Randy James - I like Tim Dillon very much from what I've heard since trying to listen to him more actively over the last 9-12 months. Virtually everything he said in this video, I have been yelling to anyone who would or I could force to listen over the last 15-20 yrs. Slow your roll my friend, Randy. With all due respect to Tim, the modern day Don Rickles is Michael Damon.

I’ve said this before: Tim is great but he’d murder his mom to have the kind of mainstream success the Fallons and Kimmels of the world have. Don’t kid yourself. And he understands full well the idea of late night hosts appealing to a sort of watered down mainstream pop culture idea of comedy, going all the way back to Johnny Carson and earlier. Those formats were never meant to be deeply topical or hardcore acerbic comedy. Tim is no dummy, he knows the history of comedy and entertainment. This is just to appeal to the niche RU-vid podcast Joe Rogan pretend “anti-elite anti-mainstream” audience he’s become popular with.
The fallons and kimmels only have mainstream "success" because they're sellouts to the establishment, puppets. If the establishment wasn't propping them up they still might be in Beverly Hills, Wollyhood or wherever.. or New York perhaps.. they'd just be eating out of the garbage cans and sleeping in an appliance box. They have nothing going for them.
Not all "comedy" has to be expressed through current events, ranting, and complaining. Yes that is entertaining, but so are observational bits about everyday life. Also absurdity and silliness common to Conan bits.
Tim is missing it. He even describes it, all but explaining it to himself YET doesn't seem to catch it. Yes, the news. It's ugly stuff, its wars and rumors of wars, then a dozen very ugly crimes, then injustices, then someone shot teenagers at a school, then the next hour is more very difficult topics. So people work during the day, that's their struggles, the argument, then the traffic stress and the thing with the boss/store/children/neighbor. Then it's some ugly news around the world for sure. and then.... ...after all that it's cartoonish fun. It's fantasy, escapism. It's banality. It's almost like hypnotic laugh tracks, goofiness, gayness, Tim realizes its all meaningless fluff. Right. "Whos the audience for that?" The exact same people who were in the ugly real world all day and then subjected to the ugly news. Same people. That's WHY. from 8 to 11 they want to shut their critical thinking down and basically go into a 'meditative' state or find something to smile at, some balancing frivolity. Same reason soldiers went to burlesque clubs. Same reason cops, accountants and the news people go to a comedy club night to hear jokes about the airplane peanuts making a fart sound when you open them and then they crinkle the bag extra to really announce it was the bag of peanuts and then are hoping others peanuts make that same noise but.. nobody else's bag made a fart-like sounds when opened. It's because the cop spent 9 hours getting 'Karened' and had a life or death scare moment and has seen 2 hours of the news. The accountants were doing the work on the layoffs that only they know are coming for 12 employees soon. The news people are watching Jimmy Fallon, that's who. They spend their day watching all that news. That's who watches Fallon play chess with a muppet. That 'brain sleep' is why.
