Time-Lapse: Crocus full season life cycle

This time-lapse is the life cycle of a bush of crocuses or croci. At the end of winter and even before the beginning of spring this flower appear everywhere. This bulbous crop hides in the ground for the rest of the year, so it can brighten up the end of a cold winter.
The time-lapse is made with one picture every 5 minutes, and the real time is about 5-6 weeks.
I am trying to improve and make more timelapse videos, but new improvements are very expensive and recording one video is extremely time consuming.

I must have some really awesome Crocus because after blooming, the leaves grow to about 14 to 16 inches in length.

My pleasure :) In a cold spring it may bloom a few weeks. This time laps is taken indoors at temp of like 15°c, so it didn't bloom longer then a week, more like a few days.

Good question, mild frost won't kill the flower, but it normally won't open it's flowers at low temperatures because it opens to attract insects, and these are not active below about 10 Celsius.

I live in zone 4 and sometimes the temperature is -20 and mine do really well and thats without mulching. If you have trouble with freezing temperatures just mulch them in the fall with a foot of compacted leaves. Then in the spring remove the leaves. I usually cover any plant not suited to my zone, like Dahlias with mulch during the winter.

@@emelitacruz3209That depends on the type of bulb, the bulbs I use are originally mountain plants and need cold conditions. There are many types of crocus.

5 to 6 weeks in total, so just about one month to bloom

The stigma is the orange thing at the upper side of the flower, very nice visible at 2:18, the stamen are at the bottom of the flower and hardly or not visible in the video.
