another shortcut trick is .. when both sign are same i,e(t+2) , (t+4) then do left shift . And if sign are opposite ie (t-2), (t-4) then go for right shifting...

took me a while to understand the bomb example, for those interested I'll write down my way of explaining what's happening and pls correct me if I'm wrong: Imagine you're sitting in front of the bomb and you have a timer that started when the bomb was set off. For example, you're at 9:00 minutes now (you've been sitting there watching the bomb for 9 minutes) and for some reason, you now cut the red wire that makes the bomb explode 2 minutes earlier. You can say that the bomb will explode at 12:00 - 2:00..... or you could imagine that you're now 2 minutes forward in time. You're not at 9:00 anymore, but 11:00. 9:00 is the instantaneous time and it now became 11. You only have 1 minute to flee. Neso explained the same thing considering you were at 10:00 and that's the number you see on the bomb cause that thing on the bomb is the timer. There's a 10 in it meaning that it started from 0:00 but now it arrived at 10:00. If no one cuts the red wire it arrives at 12:00 and BOOM, otherwise, it's going to explode right NOW. In fact, NESO says at some point "the bomb will now explode".

Summary:- Subtracting a fixed positive quantity from the time variable will shift the signal to the right (delay) by the subtracted quantity, while adding a fixed positive amount to the time variable will shift the signal to the left (advance) by the added quantity.

It's the same concept actually. In the 'oppenheim' book, they've taken 'k' as '-to' , so in that case , when 'to > 0 ' , it represents a time delay (right shift) and 'to

can you give me some practical applications for time shifting both negative and positive
@muwaffaqelbadawi
@muwaffaqelbadawi 6 лет назад
so far, suppose you have to do some work in a specific period of time and you start in whatever point eg. if your starting time was at 7 A.M and your specific period of time T=2 hours, so if you start in the original time (7 A.M) t= +7 you will end up at 9 A.M but either you come earlier or later of that time, this determine the time when you finish y(t) depending on the time you start in, if you come earlier suppose at 6:30 x(t+0.5) t= +6.5 then you will finish early --------------> y(t)= 8:30 A.M and so opposite if you start lately you'll delay your finishing time x(t-0.5) -------------> y(t+0.5)

can u explain advanced signal is not possible? with example, because the audio(songs) can be compress
@archabhi
@archabhi 6 лет назад
@Naveen Naveen Let me explain that the compressed audio signal is not an example of Time Advancing, but can be an example of Time Scaling. If we compress the signal, we can't advance the starting point of the audio signal in past as that of the '-ve' time instant. I hope you are aware of the difference between Time Scaling and Time Advancing. 👍

Means signal will occur earlier than x=0 time, the whole thing is counter-intuitive to me, adding constant shifts the signal left, which is opposite of what you'd expect.

what is the meaning of advancing the signal.........couldnt understand the last few seconds
@karanrao9431
@karanrao9431 6 лет назад
The signal is advanced because everything is occurring 2 seconds earlier. Simple way to understand it is if the shifting is a positive number, it moves to the left, if it is a negative number it moves to the right.
@farawayskies
@farawayskies 6 лет назад
I think he was basically saying that you can't advance a signal in real time, such as somebody speaking. You cant shift a real live signal that is happening unpredictably. You don't know what comes next, so how would you advance the signal to the left such that the future is happening sooner? You can only shift a recorded signal because you already have the whole signal recorded, you know how it starts and ends, so you can create a new starting point on the signal by advancing or shifting the signal to the left.
@c.danielpremkumar8495

This topic requires a better interpretation due to obvious notation (Advancing / Delays etc ?) confusion.

How the hell for case 2 it's x(t-2), when we pick -2 as t coordinate and then do subtraction to get y=x(t-2) => x(-2-2) = (0:-4) thus function value x equals to zero at coordinate t = -4 that's a function y values, and here you say it's actualy 0 how the hell does this work when you subtract negative two from negative two and have 0 what the hell is that math.

@archabhi
@archabhi 6 лет назад
@AGNI PRASANTH First we write the given signal in a simplified form as: x(2-t) = x(-t+2). Now, we can see the operations being performed on the given signal clearly as: the signal is being advanced by the factor '2', and then the signal is being reversed about y-axis due to '- ve' sign added before the time instant 't'. So, first advance the signal by an advance factor of '2' in the graph then reverse the obtained graph about y-axis, you'll get the resultant graph of the given signal.
