It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book ru-vid.comUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.
covering the wood with a tarp would keep it dry. Well, I am always for covering my stuff, if I have to leave it outside. things last longer if not exposed to the elements. Old habit I learned growing up. Has served me well.
I noticed the big gap between bottom of your home and the ground. Use that snow to bank up against your home to completely cover that gap. It keeps the cold from seeping up from the floor and also keeps your floor warmer. I do this every winter and know it works from experience. 👍 Great video!
that was the first thing i noticed. even better? straw bales around it and tucked slightly beneath. then cover in plastic sheeting. add snow all winter long.
not really, you're right but for the wrong reasons. Using snow to trap air under the house is a good idea, it's how windows work. keeping air trapped means that the hot air can't rise up into the atmosphere, same applies for under this house.
Birch is fine for kindling, but you need oak, hard maple, cherry or ash to produce real heat. Also, as most people have said, you need to enclose the underside, even with straw Bales and you will heat that place much more efficiently. Also the generator shed will make that generator work better, easier and last far longer
I love nothing more than a brutally cold, ferociously windy blizzard in the middle of winter, so long as I'm in a snug, warm, secure place with nowhere else I needed to be. Having someone to share it with is nice too. BTW, Skeeter is awesomely cute! Such a good pup.
Kind of mess with my OCD chopping firewood on the ground . Dulls you're ax pretty quick. I think you could really use a chopping block. But it's your wood and your ax. But I do enjoy your videos. You are a hard worker.
Skeeter is the best dog. He makes me laugh. I was so bored today and was hoping for a new video, so thanks. How did you hurt your chin? The two of you always make me hungry, some good meals there. I am always amazed when you chop wood, you hardly ever miss. It's supposed to get really cold here too. I also enjoyed the road trip. I don't get to leave here much, so I find them fun. Hope I don't type too much? It's the only time I get to say hi to the three of you. Take care. --TGG
Thanks Tim. I’m glad you liked the video and the road trip. And I cut myself trying to shave with no mirror haha. Not my proudest moment. Don’t worry about typing too much, it is always nice seeing you in the comments. Thanks for watching!
Love the sound of the wind through the pines. When I was very small, I used to think there were waterfalls somewhere because the wind in the pines sounded like water to me. My small self spent many an hour running through woods, looking for those waterfalls lol
Are you sure Skeeter isn't part deer & part rabbit ? He loves jumping through the snow. Happy dog ❤😆 stay warm & safe... Venison would be great for your pantry. 😋 👌
I live in Florida since April 2013. lived 43 years in NW Minnesota . I don't miss those very cold temperatures you having now. Very good video thank you for sharing .
Looks like ya'll are prepared for the extreme weather that's coming. That load of firewood is definitely peace of mind. Glad Skeeter got all that exercise while you got caught up on chores. Ya'll stay safe!
You guys can do it! We have a shed cabin on 12 acres. I love the cabin. Sadly we are not living in it full time. Long story. I admire you so much for going in to off grid living and embracing it, your dog sure it cute. We just found homes for 7 puppies from a rescue we got back in November. Millie. We are keeping Millie. Sure miss the puppies but no way we could keep them. We have three huskies. You can see them on the huskies channel ( our huskies Dakota & Pearl). We are Changing the channels name to include Millie. Your skitter might enjoy watching our puppies play. I will say it brings us a lot of joy to see how happy the families are who adopted Millie s puppies. And we are planning a reunion for later in the year. We are trying to get 1000 subscribers on the dogs channel. Any money made on that channel is going to help animals in need. So if you can please subscribe. We have plans to help many animals. And hoping to get emotional support dog to those in need with out the big adoption fees. Our cabin channels is (cabin life at Eden springs ). We have gone through a lot in the last few years in our family with illness and disability. But we are pushing hard to get back doing cabin videos. We are in Tennessee. Only a couple minutes from the Tennessee river. Everyone says why not get land right on the water. But we fell in love with the rolling hills and the layout of our land. Here you can’t get rolling hills right on the water. We do have springs. And we did have lots of deer. Until three years ago, the deer got a chronic waste disorder and they died off. We are slowly seeing them come back, Hope they are not sick. We were told by the grandchildren of the original owner of our property that for over a hundreds years the deer have offspring on our back field. We always leave the grass high in an area so they can be there and feel safe. Our dogs are in a fenced area about 3 acres. So they can’t bother the deer. But I have seen our dogs play hide and seek with the deer. It was amazing to see that, hopefully we will be back out there soon, we bought a class A last month and we are having a big carport brought in and putting in a new driveway entrance this spring. But right now we are in an ice storm like you guys. Currently living in a small country town closer to the city so we can get medical care. It’s a nice town. But our cabin and land is our real home. I’ll be praying for you to get through the winter stronger for having met the challenge. Hope you stay warm & well. And have everything you need and more. God bless! Leslye
You literally could have backed your Escape right up to the wood shelter at your grandpas cabin and saved so much time instead of dragging it on a sled 100 times lol
There are a couple good things about -20 degree weather. 1: The squeaky snow gives you good traction when driving, and 2: Twenty below lets you know how amazing twenty above can feel. Stay warm and enjoy your hunkering . :)
Yes I have 3 dogs my fourth pooch passed day after new years he was the happiest dog in the world . if you ever kneeled down to pet him you better be ready to get knocked over and kissed miss you Scooby doo
Oh I enjoyed this video. The little house on hills looks so cosy. I'm glad you have enough wood to keep you all warm. Sweeter is so cute. I'm excited every time a new videos out. Stay blessed, can't wait for the next video.
Nice country! Love the video! I been watching van life stuff too, but there's quite a bit of overlap with off grid cabin life. Some vans actually have wood stoves Another popular type of heat are gas or diesel heaters, which work really well apparently. The insulation of vans is interesting. They don't use fiberglass as much. Condensation is an issue and venting with a fan is helpful. Of course that removes heated air over time which must be replace but it's the cost for preventing mildew. Best wishes.
Cierra and I were seriously considering Van Life at one point. It would certainly be an adventure. I think this spring/summer I’m going to try to see what I can do to my Ford Escape. It’s a small space but I can fit laying down in the back. I’d love to go on an awesome road trip/adventure. I watch Foresty Forest and his diesel heater seems to work great.
@@KYLESCABIN. Measure 24 inches deep and however high and length the cabin is, build a storage space put doors on it for extra things. Tah Dah no wind draft under it.
We have -11 right now. Obviously not as cold as what you both have it. But your right with snow sqeaking as you walk on it. Those Johnsonville bratts are made just about 30 miles from me.
Western Wisconsin is in the same system. It is -14F right now, with a windchill of -35F. 🥶 My 6 year old son wants to make breakfast outside in our pallet igloo tomorrow with a hobo wood stove.
I always like to see your Cierra (sp.) getting more involved with talking and personality in the videos. I never could get a woman interested in living this way, and I find it interesting that you did. That said, and based on the overwhelming number of comments, I'm pretty sure Skeeter wins the award for Best Supporting Character today. Enjoy your lives; you are blessed.
Great time for a video on this subject. People in Texas are freezing in their 500,000 homes. Because of choosing a gas fireplace over a wood burning stove. My son and his family. 40 degrees and two small children. I'm getting worried. But you have it made in your little cabin. Smart.
I'd suggest to get some type of skirting around the floor of that trailer. It makes a hell of a lot of comfort difference. FWIW, -21 down toward the Cities, this morning.
JV Brats are the best. The seasoning is spot on for me. All their meats are very good. Husband puts the grill away for winter so I have to wait till it warms up in spring. Your tiny cabin looks very comforting. Percolating coffee is the best . Stay Warm Be Safe Take Care. 👍👍
@@KYLESCABIN just a little simple recipe - take the casing off the raw brat and make meatballs. You can get 3 or 4 meatballs from one brat. Spaghetti noodles or your choice, sauce . So yummie. 👍
Probably 150 degrees if I really get it ripping haha. I used foam board insulation when I built it so it heats and holds heat pretty well. Plus the stove is a bit big for the area. We normally have a window cracked.
I declare Skeeter, my favorite RU-vid pup star! We used to have an English Setter. Skeeter reminds me of him but with a lot more energy! Hunker down you two! I know you'll stay warm with that stove. My husband and I love your channel. Thanks for sharing and have a good week. :-)
Just found your channel 👍. We found a local butcher that makes awesome sausage...chili cheese, Hawaiian. If you do get 3 deer the venison will last you two all year. Cheers
Well, I am a keeper, ha ha ha, love the content, and anyone from Northern anywhere is good with me, I absolutely love it up north in my state!! I live way down in south central, and miss living up in Northern MI. Many trips to the UP, some in later winter when the sun is shining and feels nice, walking on top of 4 foot of snow, ha! Be safe, stay warm, and we'll see ya around in the comments.
