In this series of videos, we look at replacing the standard all in one flight controller board in the Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle with a completely different board which has a 20 x 20 mounting hole pattern.
This video is Part 1 and goes through the steps of installing the adapter plate and various components and then wiring them up.

Yes is was a big task - a labour of love for this airframe. But I really wanted to explore all that was possible with it and document it as a guide for others too

I’ve just received a Runcam Split 4 for my TH2FS as I want to record my flights, however I only have a completely standard Tinyhawk. Can I fit an adaptor plate like you have in this video and swap out the standard VTX with the new Runcam one, or do I need to upgrade the FC to make this new Runcam Split 4 compatible? I’m brand new to the FPV world and am finding your videos really informative but am still a bit confused. Thanks in advance! 👍

Unfortunately that's not going to work. I think the recorder you have has 20 x 20 mount holes. But even using my adapter plate you would need to update the fc board to an all in one. And then you need to have maybe a vtx with 20x 20 holes too. But it won't leave enough space for the recorder. A better idea is to record the video on the goggles. If you don't have that function you can buy aN add-on recorder.

That's not good. This is a great FC. It's probably about the only one out there witha genuine 2A BEC. Basically any other AIO with a 20 x 20 mount pattern will do but if you are putting it in a TinyHawk frame you need to check the board dimensions.

Possible to use the GHF405 AIO 40 a instead? Also it's ok to keep the same 1103 7000 kv motors?

You should be able to use that board as long as it is an AIO board. But you will need to check the height clearance and also the clearance with standoffs and camera side plates. For the motors, these original motors can be used on 2S or 3S.

Hello, could you help me with something please. So, recently I have accidentally burned 2 different FC boards on my Tiny Hawk Freestyle 2! I solder all my motors, and then check all joints and they are very clean. I plug in my two 1s batteries to the pig tail, and the drone chimes up as normal and all is well. I then go to EMAX and get the proper THF2 CLI command for my new flight controller, and go into Beta Flight uploading it to the drone, again all is successful. I bind to the original EMAX E-6 radio, and it is bound. Now, when I give the drone about 1/4 throttle.......it throttles up very high, loses control and flips off the table. I try it a few more times and same conclusion, but now......the smoke is let out of my FC:( DO YOU KNOW IF I need to set the new FC to 2s lipo batteries before trying to fly it? It seems like that is what is going on, because if I was using two 1s(2s total) and the drone is set for 1s, wouldn't that possibly cause this issue? Any advice you have would be very helpful, thanks:):):)

A few things can cause this. First check your props are on the correct way. Then the replacement Tinyhawk FC are not always aligned correctly. Connect to BF and move the frame and observe the image in betaflight. If the movement doesn't match up you need to set the orientation of the FC board in betaflight. Second on the motors tab (with props off) toggle the advance setting at the bottom of the screen and check all motors are working correctly by spinning them up a bit. Apply tape to them so you can see if they are spinning the correct direction. If not then either re-solder 2 wires on that ESC or change direction with SLHeli S software.

Hi I wish I seen your Video before I had just tried to upgrade the Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle VTX when it cause the TH Freestyle FC to smoke an stop working. Can you tell me where on that board might be the problem an is it a easy Fix? Thanks

Smoke from an FC board isn't a good sign. It's a burnt out component - maybe a fet or something. There's no way to guess what it moght have been, but if you have a magnifying glass you can look at wach of the componnets. The burnt out oen will have a hole in the top. Then the fun part begins. You need to find out what it was, order it from soemwhere and tend try to re-flow the board to position the new one. Actually you need to be skilled at doing this. I have tried to do it a few times - succeded once and failed the rest. In the end it's probably just easier to buy a new FC.

@@MicronWings Thanks for your input, I looked over the FC and can’t find any burnt or melted components on the FC after seeing smoke from the VTX short. I’d like to get my TH freestyle fixed, an a new FC is $70, can you tell me how much the FC and VTX cost that you use in the Video? 🙏

@@diggsit69 That FC I believe is no longer available. Basically these days any micro Fc with a 20 x 20 mount pattern would be okay.
