Here is a video on how to remove your fuse box, clean it, and put it back into place. This repair is pretty easy to do and only takes about 40 minutes from start to finish!
TOOLS:
• Philips Screw Driver - amzn.to/3hdpzx0
• T25 Screw Driver - amzn.to/33pVkL9
• Pick (optional) - amzn.to/3nZM8q4
• Magnetic Metal Tray (optional) - keeps you from losing screws and bolts - amzn.to/3hdUiJZ
• Multimeter (optional) - checking fusing - amzn.to/3o1T5qw
You can easily check your fuses to ensure they are working by using a multimeter and using the continuity setting and attach it to both of the metal pieces. If it peeps, then it's good.
This video should work on Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country for Generation 4 for the years of 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. It should be very similar for years before and after this.

I have a 2006 Didge Caravan. I replaced the electric window regulator and control panel switch last year. Recently, the driver' window stopped working again, then the passenger stopped rolling up. I took the switch covers off and saw the contact for the new passenger motor control had fried itself so not making enough contact to conduct the current for the motor. I concluded there were too many amps being drawn through the circuit. I am sure glad that you posted this video because it was the thing or place that maybe causing the faulty amount of current to fry the components of the window circuit and the very thing I was going to examine. This of course is my next project.

Appreciate the vid, MFI ; Along w/those metal pokers & the brushes ! Didn't plan on going This in depth w/the Kia Rio, yet... might just try it. I trust that Chrysler & Dodge took care of the head gasket & radiator issues that the mid 90's model T&C & Caravan's had. Those ol' Pepper &/or Egg tricks only go so far / work for so long. Thanx again. Peace !

I've got almost 200k and no head-gasket issue. I had to replace the radiator at about 150k. It was very straight forward and wasn't too pricey at an auto part store. The issue this vehicle had in the past was transmission issues. They are better now with a rebuild though.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've spent a fortune for non-fixes from lying/lazy mechanics for a fan problem that turned out to be a bad connection. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself these days (now I see what my dad was talking about years ago). If you pay $100-150 hr, you should get quality work! Would love to meet a "professional" mechanic before I die, but it's more likely I'll encounter a magical unicorn.

No, I have not. I do use an electrical cleaner like one I am going to link below. But I have never done it for an TIPM before. Appreciate the video MC.....well explained. I have a p5013 code with my 2007 Dodge Caravan 3.8 litre and wanted a visual on how to remove the TIPM box to inspect the wiring conditions among other possible issues. I might add that I've found Scotch Brite works best rather than emery cloth/paper in most applications. Scotch Brite folds nicely and is more flexible, formable and spongy for getting in between terminals/etcetera. I'm thinking a good shot of electronic spray/aerosol would be useful cleaning the terminals also.

I had issues with the battery cable on this unit shaking off set a bit.... it would cause speedometer, radio to start and stop.. used a wire tie to keep constant pressure pulling upward on the cable between battery and tipm... seems to work... it would somehow come loose and do like a constant on off on off on off...

If your relay is bad, yes! But none of them are soldered on the board and all were functional. All of them are removable. They at times can become corroded and needed cleaned if they are still good relays. I live in the north and corrosion is a real problem especially on this vehicle. Best of luck on your project!

This is perfect. I have an 06 Dodge Grand Caravan that has been acting funny. I’ve replaced A LOT on this van and now the power locks unlock but will not lock and the radio went out. As I checked fuses, the IOD fuse was so badly corroded that the prong broke off in the terminal and I can’t get it out. I think taking out the fuse block and doing what you demonstrated will give me the access to the prong. This is the only video I’ve found demonstrating this. Love it! Hopefully it works for me and hopefully that fuse is the solution to my problems. Do I HAVE to take the module off to remove the terminal cover?

That’s super strange. I’m not of a big fan of the electrical on these Dodge vehicles. So many issues and it’s always something small that goes wrong and creates chaos. I’d go back and make sure the wiring was done correctly on the wiper motor since that when it seems like everything went crazy. I had a similar issue to this in an old Stratus with a ground wire that was a bit frayed and caused weird symptoms like this.

@MCFIXIT when I changed out the wiper motor I left the hood open overnight while I was waiting for the part to come in the next day. It rained that night and then the problem came. I gave up on it then decided to drive it then they all started to work again. I'm thinking it dried out whatever was wet and that's what I'm thinking fixed it.
@MCFIXIT
@MCFIXIT 6 месяцев назад
yeah, wetness in your engine bay is never good. So much electrical stuff in there. I can't believe how many people deep clean with pressure sprayers today. I'd never do that in fear of water damage to the electrical components and computers. Glad to hear that it's fixed!@@joshvarvara6785

Hi, after disconnect positive and negative cables from battery, why didn't connect two cables each for few hours or overnight (to drain any electrostatic capacitors)? Somebody do this action.

IPA makes diamond grit files to clean terminals inside and out...and use deoxit spray on them after cleaning.

Yes! That’s a very helpful tip! I’ll have to look into that file! I’ve not seen that. I’ve got a kinda cheap one that gets the job done but that sounds like it would work much better! Thank you!

Where do you get a replacement for the power cable coming into the TIPM? I really don't want to pay dealership fees. Have you found any other location? Also, why did you totally remove the battery? Isn't just taking off the terminals enough?
@debbiejones4860
@debbiejones4860 3 года назад
I don't think you would have been able to open up the fuse box since it's on a hinge without removing the battery completely. Also, You could do an aftermarket one but it won't have the connector like on this vehicle
@MCFIXIT
@MCFIXIT 3 года назад
I’d stick with a mopar product bc of the weird connector or getting one from a junkyard (if it looks good)!

I had to pressure wash my engine to get the grime off it before I work on it. Finished everything over a few days after washing. Had trouble starting it. Sounded like relay. Got it stared and ran a few different times. A couple different times I would start it and it ran like shit and the instruments and lights where going crazy. Hoping this will fix it🤞

@@MCFIXIT no I just tried to stay away from all that. Just got to close to the fuse box. I pulled it out with every fuse and disconnected all electrical connections. cleaned everything with electrical cleaner and topped them all with electric grease. Problem solved.

Most ppl don't use dialectric grease, or some other form of conductive material on the terminals. W hy not?
@MCFIXIT
@MCFIXIT 3 года назад
Great question! I see dialectic grease has primarily a protectant and since it's already covered in the box. I don't see it as necessary. Thanks for watching and commenting!
