Five years ago I definitely felt like I was in the category of people "who can't draw" 😁 but I really wanted to learn so started working at it.. it was really hard and really scary in the beginning and sometimes I can still feel anxiety about drawing new things but in this video I share how I changed my thinking about drawing and also some little exercises and techniques that help me draw or paint when I don't have much time, and also help me not to worry so much about getting things "just right." They also reduce the overall fear of failure I used to have when I started a piece and help me enjoy creating and celebrate each small victory.
THIS IS NOT A HOW-TO TUTORIAL -- it is just a draw with me video where I talk about and demonstrate one example of how I draw and create with less pressure on myself to be perfect. I will not be teaching you step by step how to draw any particular thing - this is just for inspiration and encouragement purposes 🤎
I hope something I share here will help you or resonate with you - thanks for watching and supporting the channel and my work. 🥰

This is really inspiring. I love the miniature version. It’s feels so less overwhelming than a bigger sketch

I’ve been into creating art my whole life. I was in advanced art through junior and senior high. You have given some amazing advice and tips! A few more I’d like to add, I hope that’s alright. Sometimes it’s best to pick one thing. If you’re wanting to draw better, maybe pick a tree or a mouse. And when you’re talking on the phone or intentionally setting time for it, keep practicing that one subject. Look up all kinds of images and ideas regarding that one thing. Get inspiration from everywhere you look. It helps to try different tools. Maybe pencil is better for you than markers. Or maybe water color with no outline is what you excel at. Even people who draw (myself included) look up inspiration ideas. We also will draw something and feel we got it just right so we also trace our own work sometimes. There’s nothing wrong with tracing, using rulers and circle shapes items to help you get your idea created. Some people are not great with drawing but they might excel at clay or wire art. The items we can use are everywhere. Even pressed some flowers and leaves. Use those to create. You can glue them onto cards, put them in frames etc. There is no one subject to art or being creative. We all have different skill levels and we all have started at zero. I also do a lot of photography and that is also artistic. Some people capture images that others don’t look twice at, but once that photo is printed, you’ve made that subject come to life. Don’t give up. Try as many things as you can. Some of the best things are made from what others consider trash. And have fun with it. Wonky art can be some of the most fun and creative!

Thanks for the helpful advice - I am a beginner but two things I have heard stick in my mind - draw on lots of types of paper (tea or coffee-stained are good for vintage looks) and 'Never compare your first paragraph to someone else's final chapter' - and if it goes wrong - it's only a piece of paper and some ink! I keep my small pictures and it's when I look back I can see I am improving even though it may not seem like it at the time. Practice makes perfect....xx
