We all love to modify our vehicles, it's just what we do. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult having to jump through hoops in order to actually modify our cars the way we want. For example, you definitely do not want to void your brand new Toyota Surpa's warranty because you tuned the stock engine to gain an extra 100hp. Another tip: If you buy a modified car from the stealership, make sure those mods are on the write up and warranty.

As a service director, I would overlook modifications as long as it wasn't a modification of the factory part - such as PCM tuning and the PCM fails. I've got customers with 1,300 hp cars still covered under warranty. For obvious reasons, I cannot say what dealership, or even what brand.

If you are considering one, the *Veloster N* (and all N cars) have a specific official document that outlines a few standard modifications that actually will NOT void the Hyundai warranty. It’s relatively standard, but having an official manufacturer page stating items is nice.

One thing to keep in mind, pay attention to him saying FACTORY WARRANTY. Most extended warranty's have fine print that say's any mod's will void it. Unless the warranty company comes out to physically see the car and/or the shop tells them that the car is modified, you'll be good. I got 7K worth of maintenance work done on the extended warranty off my E92 all while being modified.

Step one. Buy a used car. Step two. Take it to a mechanic, or just do it yourself Step three. Profit from not blowing all your money on stealership pricing and use the rest of your money to modify you car how you want it.

I think a good idea would be to in some way give your dealer a list of modifications you want, and have them X out ones they'd void. Maybe even get some places they recommend, and see what works for you.

Really helpful video but I just have one question will aftermarket seats void my warranty. Because my car is still under warranty and I want to replace my seats. From what I know removing airbags will void it and I have airbags in my seat. I just want to make sure it won’t void the warranty.

It shouldn't at all. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with an intake. Gains are negligible and aren't effective unless you get other supporting mods and or a proper tune. And the tune would probably void the warranty since they scare the shit out of dealers. Only way id do an intake is for the nice sound or if the stock airbox is terrible (which usually isn't the case with modern performance cars)

Intake, 3"downpipe, and cat back exhaust all help boost/airflow without a "tune" but you can also get a plug in tune or "chip" that can be easily removed if necessary. Have all those on my Kia forte GT qnd a HKS blow-off valve and catch can.. only the chip really plays w the ecu... but I can swap everything out to stock in 20 min... (minus the welded exhaust/downpipe...

I work in the automotive industry... and unfortunately anything and everything can void your warranty. All parts are created to certain tolerances. Any modification can void your warranty. It all depends on the dealer and their willingness to fight you. Change your wheels? This can cause a change in NVH and at any point a smart lawyer can argue that the vehicle in that setup has not undergone testing and the effects cannot prove that the NVH was not out of tolerances, same can be said about suspension, aero kits, literally anything. Again... it all depends on the willingness of the OEM/Dealer to fight you. NVH is a huge topic (and not the only one) and this causes many if not most of the hardware issues seen in electronics (beside water ingress). I love modifications, but specs are very clear.

Start doing your business at another dealer. Whatever department told you that is full of it and just don't want to honor claims. CAI, catback, wheels, coilovers, all cosmetic mods are fair game. Most dealers are reasonable until you get into tuning territory.

So you say that "changing out your wheels and tires doesn't really add stress to anything, same with your suspension. It's not really connected to anything else that it can alter and reduces fatigue on the chassis" while showing cars with heavy ass air suspensions, completely out of spec deep dish wheels and stretched tires, extreme drops, excessive camber, etc. Other than the air suspension which is just heavy, all of the above will give plenty of cause to deny any chassis and suspension warranty claims. Even just putting very sticky wider tires on your car can add a significant extra stress to bushings, etc. Obviously, extremely lowered vehicles can also easily get major underbody damage and good luck claiming that under warranty or insurance lol. In any case, you are either ignorant or being dishonest about the stuff you sell.
