Tips for polishing chrome trim

Thanks. I think both could work. Mine was so watermarked that it needed heavy duty polishing. My setup is best for that. Oscillating would probably work fine for lighter duty

I noticed that too and perhaps I should add a disclaimer. It has worked well for me on stainless steel and chrome, but if you're concerned follow the usual advice and test it on a less visible area first.

Yes. It looks like a ball but it's actually a dome shape. Depending on the shape of the item I'm polishing I experiment with different shaped polishing attachments from the set

Not true at all, I polished my chrome wheels with duracoat blue metal polish and it took the oxidation right off

@@UzsDc1UZ good luck....let me know when you polish down to the brass....seriously, ask any plater, they know....I ruined a bunch of shit in my 20's....stainless or aluminum is fine, but nothing plated

@@sidforbrains6552 it's normal to polish chrome wheels, the abrasives you use are super fine and the pad itself is light. You can't get the scratches out but you can get the oxidation off. It worked well, no brass showing and lots of chrome left

Hey. Thanks for the comment. I understand what you're mean when you write "the scratches and swirl marks". You refer to 'sanding' but I'm not sanding anything. Except for the deep gouge on the end I'm only using the mothers polish. I do see what you mean about the swirl marks. The LED lights show them clearly on the video, but if you watch closely from the 0:45 to 1:00 time stamp on the video I show the original areas of the trim before polishing. If you look closely during that 15 second section of the video you can see clearly that the swirl marks were already existing on the trim piece, under the water marks, before being polished. Unfortunately the previous owner used Scotchbrite or an overly aggressive polish that created those swirls. Maybe they look more reflective under the LED after polishing, but the polishing process did not add to the scratching and swirls whatsoever. By the way, I have also use 0000 steel wool on many areas of this vehicle and its works great, but the polish adds a finishing shine and does not cause swirls. I've also added a note in the description as this technique is probably too aggressive for newer chrome that is in reasonably good condition
