Tips for sitting for a long tattoo session! // missalannanielsen 

Eat before you go and bring lots of water. dont take any pain killers before you go. (it thins out your blood) wear comfortable clothes and shoes, maybe even bring a small pillow if your going to be tattooed for a long period. When I'm being tattooed for a long amount of time, I like to watch RU-vid videos/listen to music (etc) while I'm being tattooed. Maybe even spark up a convo with your artist. I hope these helped 💗 This is just what i personally do before/while being tattooed, especially for a long period of time.

My artist did my entire shoulder and upper arm sleeve in 2 hours. We both zoned out and hit a place where we were both so focused on getting it over with that even he was surprised at how fast the tattoo got done. Was quoted 6 hours and got it done in just over 2. He offered a discount based on time, and I paid him full price based on the work he did. It's not always just about the dollars per hour... sometimes you just get an artist you truly vibe with and it goes way faster than normal.

I just sat for an 8 hour sesh yesterday and me and the artist were talking about the difference between people who sit well and those who do not and she said she noticed people with greater mental strength and stamina sit the best. Yes eat, bring water and snacks will help. Her and I really clicked and talked the entire session except for a couple times I just needed to close my eyes and meditate to get through some tough areas. Getting tattooed for that many hours is cathartic for me. The pain is a release for me. I can let go of other pain internally I have been holding on to. Some say pain is weakness leaving the body. I do believe that.

With my artist, he recommended that I get the rest of my line work for .y slave, rather than do peice by peiece but I have muscle twitches and suck at sitting. Were gonna do linework first then take smaller sessions for colour and detail. I'm gonna start with this tax return. I have fairly big pieces but have only sat for 2.5hrs max and am nervous

you're strong! I'm not sure I'd be able to sit for that long haha. Did you get a deal for sitting for 8 hours? I know at my shop you prepay for 6 hours but you actually get 8.

Good luck with with new apt! I have never had an 8hr session. But I always need to chew gum and sometimes yoga breathing helps when it starts to hurt.

Your tattoo is gorgeous (really all of yours are)! I just sat for 5 and a half hours (was my longest). I pretty in much did the same as you, brought a bunch of snacks and water, and was prepared to zone out and listen to music but the shop actually had movies playing so I got to watch 12 Monkeys, anchorman and step brothers which was a great distraction lol. I wasn't expecting this but the artist used numbing spray after the outline which I think helped immensely (however I am of the belief that if you can't handle the pain you shouldn't be getting it lol). If I didn't have the numbing spray I probably would have had to break up the sessions.

Final product still looks great regardless of some ink loss
