Tips for Teens on Finding a Summer Job

With the federal minimum wage set at $7.25 an hour, some teens are hitting it big at their summer jobs. One teen is making around $250-$300 for 4 to 5 hours a week coaching soccer. Another teen is also earning great money being a babysitter for $25 an hour and a tennis coach for $70 an hour for the summer. A business expert says it’s due to the labor shortage. Employers are desperate to find people to work so they are offering more money to fill jobs.

Companies love hiring kids. They don't have to give them a living wage because they usually don't have a mortgage, utilities, child care, etc...

Hiring kids for summer foster a good sense of financial responsibility at a young age that they can carry with them as they become adult. They do have to give the a livable wage as the the law dictates they don't go below minimum wage.

This is kind of why I became a personal trainer and nutritionist. I wish I did it full time but you could easily charge up to $100 for 1 hour for a private session. Really it's whatever you set it as, but people do charge that much and people do pay for it. It's great lil side money.

To anyone living in SoCal, Knott’s Berry Farm will employ teens for the summer and you can even work on the weekends after summer. They really need the help because I was employed there before. It gets packed! Also, babysitting worked for me when I was a teenager.

Your local public library might hire you without experience to put books back on the shelf and other entry level tasks. Or to have something to put on a resume, you can ask a store owner to hire you for an hour a day doing simple tasks like breaking down boxes for recycling, dusting etc. Or passing out flyers to advertise their business.

Maybe a local church or other place will hire you to help with events. You could help set up chairs, etc., or help the janitor clean up afterwards. Be creative!

Network. Tell everyone you meet what your dream job is and always ask, is there someone you recommend I speak with? You never know. A friend of a friend might know a hiring manager, for instance.

Ingles or most fast food will hire you with a pulse yes it’s not gonna be a good job. Also someone else said it’s who you know which is also true without experience maybe you can use that to your leverage. Also lawn care or learn a side hustle if your good with your hands quick lubes will train you.

If you can please try to go somewhere else 💀💀💀 McDonald's does not train its new employees that well... They don't have a system in place for that. If you got a neighborhood Walmart nearby, I'd go in and ask to get a job like a cashier and online delivery pickup. That's what I'm planning to do since I HATE FOOD SERVICE!!!
