My board is 12years old and ny edges have been sharpened once 😅 cause the tuning shops always tell me I don't need to. But I think I do. So. I'm glad you do this every 7 days of riding, I know I'm not crazy asking for it every year. I'm just gonna do it myself.

Just like here, I use diamond stones on my board's side and base edges as well, but only with edge guides that maintain the stone at a fixed angle to the edge... I'm paranoid that I'll create weirdly inconsistent bevel along my edges from the slightly wavering positioning of my hand otherwise.
@Synathidy
@Synathidy 4 года назад
@TurboDuckHeadHD In HD Well, for base edge I use a Beast 1 degree base edge beveler and for sides I use an SVST pro-edge beveler 91. So basically together they maintain a 90-degree edge that's slightly beveled. They seem to work great for me, anyway.

I worked in the industry for years, here’s my $.02: Only rack company that’s worth looking at IMO is Thule. They’re expensive but worth it. Get a bag with built in boot pockets. Dakine & Burton tend to be my recommendations but it’s worth buying something quality. The cheap ones will have zippers popping off within a couple years. Roller bags are heavy and awkward to handle, IMO not worth the extra $$ and weight. Flying with a board is easy, especially Southwest. Process is the same as a regular suitcase except there’s usually an oversize area you pick up & drop off at. Just make sure your board + boot bag weight is combined under 50lbs. Most airlines have the same policy, your board bag & boot bag count as 1 bag. Fill your board bag w/ your riding gear then you can use a carry-on suitcase for your regular clothes. Get a rubber mat (old doormats/car mats work great) to stand on when taking your boots on/off. It’s a clean surface that’s better than standing in the snow/dirt/slush.

Great informative video. Just wanted to clarify one thing, on your previous video with "underground tuning" he mentions always to finish with the diamond stone flat against the edge rather than on the bottom to ensure your edges are pointing downward. Is this the correct way to tune your edges? I ride 50% park % 50% mountain if that helps. Thanks!

@galehess6676
@galehess6676 3 года назад
not really. 1st loosen bindings so the heat of waxing doesn't make dimples, then clean the wax off, do the edges, then structure, wax, scrape and clean the edges of wax, tight the bindings and get some good lean going with the back of the binding leaning forward a bit. ride.

On the last they we stopped for my dad to get the car to get back home to the hotel and I just cut my whole hand palm right open witht the edge of my snowboard, without wearing any gloves. What if you are using a tool, like the Toko edge tuner pro, what are the angles that should be used?
@Craig-rk8dp
@Craig-rk8dp 5 лет назад
I have my own fairly comprehensive purpose snowboard/ski tuning workshop I run from home that I've been doing for about 10 years now. I have purchased tons of different tools over the years that has cost me a fair amount of coin $$$$$. But hey I love snowboarding. So I love the Toko Edge Tuner Pro which is my number 1 pick for doing side edges. I have fixed pro model edge guides at a variety of different angles but love the rollers for smooth glide over the base it gives you from the Toko Edge Tuner Pro. I use 89 for side edge and 1 degree for base bevel. This gives your combined edge/base angle of 90 degrees (this is what a lot of boards are set up as from the factory). You can go more if you want to set up for a super hard carver ie 88-87degrees (not recommended unless you're into competitions/expert level rider) but remember that to change back that angle after this you will have to remove volume of the edge plus base grind to bring that angle back. I have a number of different base edge guides ie Toko adjustable and fixed Toko pro line models but love using more than any the FK SKS Vario Base Bevel. Such a brilliant easy to use variable base bevel. Make sure you get decent diamond stones. I have used cheaper ones in the past that I sold off only after 1 use. You can't really beat Diaface Moonflex Diamond Stones. Grab the 5 pack as this will enable you to polish those edges back a mirror face from 100 to 1500. I bring back edges for customers to a polished mirror finish from their previous rusty unserviced condition. I have a number of Toko T8 irons of different voltage 230v (Australia) and 110v (Japan) I use when I go O/S. If you are into Snowboarding I would advise setting yourself up with descent tuning gear. You can't go wrong with Toko or Swix tools. Up there with the best. You will have to outlay $$$$ at first but will be better of in the long run. My advice is to use the edge/base tools rather than free-handing the edges.
