@Maxmellow94 I fully don't understand how anyone saw differently. She died "an old woman, warm in her bed," after panning across decades of proof of doing what they'd promised they do together and her living her life to the fullest. She was DEAD dead.
The majority of the underwater footage at the beginning is the real Titanic. James Cameron is a real submarine diver and was primarily motivated to do the movie so he could explore the shipwreck. You should check out The Abyss when you come back!
He kind of coerced the studio to make the movie. By getting a bunch of underwater footage, he kind of told them that it would be a waste not to use it. It also worked in his favor during production, as some underwater footage was readily available.
The line "daddy will see you soon it's only for a little while" or something similar is quoted from a survivor. Last thing she remembered from her father.

But she died where Jack died so she is able to find him back In the afterlife with all the others who died on the Titanic (those who are welcoming her while Jack had been waiting for her at the clock)

You asked who the last survivor of the Titanic was? Millvina Dean... 2 February 1912 - 31 May 2009. She was just a baby in 1912, just over a month old. Over the decades since Titanic sank, ALL the stories were collected, as much as anyone could. They're out there. Many of them were touched on (without even naming people, or the people that told them) in this movie. I was lucky enough to see a Titanic artifact exhibit in London a couple years ago. Some artifacts that were picked up with the survivors. A notebook in someones pocket. A blanket. A womans hat. All were THERE. It was... sobering.
I saw one of those exhibits too. Did yours have the big iceberg ? You're told to touch it as long as you can (it's the same temperature as the water was that night.) Also, did you ever see the British woman who was a survivor? She was 7 yrs old when she was on Titanic. She said that her mother refused to sleep while on board because she had a terrible feeling. She said that calling Titanic unsinkable was tempting God.
James Cameron is pretty obsessed with deep sea submersion, titanic lore, and historical accuracy. He used all the recorded first hand accounts to paint a minute by minute picture of everything. He really did a brilliant job.
As someone who has had an interest in Titanic since junior high (that was 1980), I can tell you that this is the closest we will ever get to the reality of that night on film - the authenticity in many regards is unparalleled and accurate to the smallest details, both in design and action. A wonderful film. 2,208 souls on board....712 saved, 1,496 lost....the lost included 687 crew (including 3 women), 647 male passengers, 104 female passengers, and 58 children, from age 14 down to babes in arms. Whole families, on their way to new lives in America, were lost (the 8 Goodwins, the 11 Sages, and others). At the time, the number of lifeboats required by maritime authorities was based upon the gross tonnage of the ship, not the number of persons on board...hard to believe, even for that age. By the regulations of the day, Titanic was equipped with more than the required amount. A few other notes - 1) evidence suggests than AN officer may have actually taken his own life, but it's an argument as to who it may have been (tough in my opinion the film got it right), 2) no one was trapped as the doors closed - all compartments had ladders leading to higher decks, 3) no evidence suggests that 3rd class passengers were intentionally kept below decks - confusion reigned, language barriers prevented fast communication, and gates did remain closed (board of trade regs required them close during the voyage), but 3rd class passengers did make it into boats and a number of the crew did make efforts to escort groups from their spaces to the boat deck.
And to add to the boats based on the technology more boats may not have been a difference based on the fact that it took them so long to launch because they were made to be ferried from One ship to another that comes to help people. Sadly this was just the night that a system that worked for long failed. Because a ship would need more then enough now imagine that ship with 70+ boats and it takes so long to launch them naturally. Cause you gotta bring them down and crank them out and then lower it
Hello, but u are incorrect. I agree this film is a masterpiece and nothing will ever compare to it but there is this video game recreating %99 of titanic which is basically the whole ship. Their also obviously doing the sinking as well and they have historians working with them as well. The sinking in the movie is inaccurate as well as some of the interiors. The game is called titanic honor and glory btw
@@gabrielvences6524 Yep - know all about H&G and it is phenomenal. The set in Titanic was the closest we will ever see to the real ship in physical reality. I know it was slightly shorter than the real ship and they needed to remove some structural items to account for the size of the tank in Mexico - how else was it not accurate? No asking to be combative - curious. Also, yes the sinking was not accurately portrayed, particularly the break-up and final moments. Much more has been analyze today and I'm certain if he made it today Cameron would account for it.

Idk if you have ever realized it or not but after Rose throws her necklace into the ocean (aka the heart of the ocean) and you see her asleep then it fades through some of the adventure photos, that was her passing away (quietly in a warm bed) and when you see them reconnect on the ship, that was all the people who lost their lives on that fateful night and Rose finally has her love back in the afterlife.
The late actor Bill Paxton who portrays the character Brock Lovett also worked with James Cameron in a Titanic Documentary called “Titanic- Ghosts Of The Abyss”.
🚢 Seeing this on the big screen was quite an experience. When I saw it in a theater, the scene near the end where the ship splits in half and the back end springs up caused the audience to go "Whhoaaaa!" in the same manner they had four years earlier when the brachiosaurus first appeared in "Jurassic Park."
I think it's the practical effects leading up to it that made it so hyper-real. Same with Jurassic Park vs CGI nowadays. There is a layer of emotion in practical effects that makes it seem more like a time machine of a movie rather than a recreation of the event.
I never found the ending ambiguous. She passed in the night and rejoined her love. They did film footage of the ship. James Cameron dived on the wreck several times. David Warner (Cal’s man) usually played good guys. He made a great henchman. Someday I will hope to see you react to his movie, “Time After Time,” where he also plays a bad guy. Billy Zane plays the snob very well. He plays a similarly snobby kind in “Tombstone.” People did not travel light then. In 1912 Titanic was the largest moving object on earth. Compared to modern ships, it’s very small. The band is legendary. They played to the end to help soothe the passengers. They were all lost. Harry Chapin did a song, “Danceband on The Titanic,” from the album of the same name. Many boats left partially full because, at first, people didn’t believe the ship would sink. Later it was too late. Fun fact, the Irish woman in bed with her kids was played by the same actress that played Vasquez in “Aliens.”
I don't know what the official comment is from Cameron about the ending of the film, but to me Rose dies at the end, in her bed after throwing the heart of the ocean back into the sea. Then everyone who perished welcomes her back to the boat where she was happiest, with Jack. And that it wasn't a dream. But I don't know that for sure as I've never looked it up, it's just what I choose to believe the story to be.
I was curious about Titanic since elementary school when I found A Night To Remember in our library. Waaaay before Ballard discovered her final resting place! That said, I was a lot like the character Brock Lovett in this movie .. minus the treasure hunting LOL. I knew facts and tidbits of the ship, where's when's, stuff like that, but only slightly thought about the people outside of the tragedy that there weren't enough life boats. This movie made me understand that side of the history of the ship .. it got in.
Cameron went to Fox and told showed them a painting of the Titanic by Ken Marshall, and said... Romeo and Juliet on that ship - and they greenlit it immediately. And yeah, she kept the Heart of the Ocean, even thought she could have sold it and lived like a queen for the rest of her life, and she didn't do it as she didn't need it. I love the ambiguous ending... was she dreaming, or did she die in her sleep and went back to the ship? If you notice, all the people are the ones that died in the sinking except her. I think Cameron knows the answer if she's dreaming or if she passed away in his own mind, and he'll never tell, letting us all decide on our own. Such an amazing film and it still gets me every time I watch it.
I don't even think it's ambiguous. A good writer will always 'never tell' for reasons of obvious drama, but he did tell us in the script. Jack told her she'd die an old lady in her bed, and there's no other reason to show us her there at the end surrounded by the stories of her life, except to tie the story off in a nice bow. The reunion with Jack is the clincher.

It's her death, she can choose who she wants, her heaven doesn't belong to her husband, he is not entitled to that. These people have a very selfish thought.
@@LennyGriffin-ip7mm Ever since we were little, we've been told how we get married at some point and then stay in love and together until the end. But that's not usually the case. There are many reasons why people stay together even if they no longer love each other romantically. It's funny how some point out that she has kids with her husband...some people stay together because of the kids even if their feelings are gone. My parents now divorced, say if it wasn't for me they would have divorced five years earlier. You summarize it well. It's not the time that's important, but the strength of the love and the bond between two people. Cameorn also said in the audio commentary: "When he asks her name she answers Rose Dawson which basically would have been her married name if Jack had lived so in her mind she's basically married him forever.". Rose has seen herself as Jack's widow...so if people want to put it that way, you can say in a way she has returned to her husband. Also, if you think about it, you quickly realize that we don't know anything about Calvert (not even the first name), so you can just say that he also had a lost lover and he and Rose are both now with their true love or something. But people want to make unnecessary drama.
You mentioned you were rooting for a different ending. It reminded me of how I saw this movie three times in the theater, and all three times they still hit the iceberg! You’d think they’d learn!
You're so smart for making this video. Spent last year looking for titanic reactions and there's only like 3 or 4. It disgusts me that no one is reacting to the greatest movie of all time. I once jumped into water at 50 feet high and didn't land right because it was overwhelming. My ass hurt insanely bad, almost paralyzed. Can you imagine someone falling into water when the ship was at 45 degrees at that height?☠
I was not interested in watching the movie in the beginning because I knew the Titanic sank and I didn't see the point of watching a movie if I knew what would happen. I am happy that I did watch it in the theatre. As for the ending, I think James Cameron wanted to comfort us by creating this reunion scene. Without that ending, the movie would have made a lot of viewers depressed. Also, the ship might not be a big deal for us but back in 1912, the Titanic was a really really big deal. I think James Cameron wanted to show how majestic the ship was at that time.

Nice review. Nobody can get thru the back half without crying. We saw it in the spring of 1997 several months after release. There was a line around the theater and the tickets were $4.75. Was recently released in theaters Valentines week. Seeing it on the big screen was stunning.
The great thing about James Cameron”s Titanic movie, in my opinion is that it really helps more than other Titanic movies do to illustrate how ridged and or strict the class boundaries were back during the early 1900s and how they really affected the lives of all on board Titanic. It is a fact that more First class men survived than Third class women and children. The class boundaries and lack of life boats truly impacted ho many people survived the Titanic sinking and how many were lost based on class boundaries. 3rd class passengers and male crew suffered the greatest number of casualties during the sinking of Titanic. It truly was a terrible and tragic sea disaster.
However, it's a complete fabrication and lie that the 3rd class passengers were locked behind gates while the boat sank. That's just movie nonsense from James Cameron. Whilst there were gates at the top of staircases from 3rd class, they were not full height. They were only waist height. And they weren't closed during the sinking. Nobody was kept from getting up to deck.
At end, you said she dreamed, but not at all, she just die as a very old lady in her bed (like Jack said) just after throw the neckless in ocean, after that, she go in the afterlife to meet Jack.

At the time Rose jumped back into the ship, she might be "nuts" but it is LOVE, really true love, I'll die for the one who jumped back just for me as well as what Jack did in the film... I think it's worth and not everybody has the same chance doing it.
2:20 It is not actual footage , it was done by miniatures in foggy room to simulate deep ocean , but ..some of the footage is real , the whole movie is combination of real footage , miniatures and CGI .
It's nice seeing people watching it for the very 1st time but I saw it in the cinema the night it was released in the UK and I was 18. I think its really sad that people are only seeing this for the 1st time on a laptop. If ever there is a film that should be seen on a big screen this is 1 of them. I remember seeing it in the cinema for the 1st time as clear as day! Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting fact, Titanic had more lifeboats than the law required at the time (the law was already outdated by Titanic's time simply because the number of lifeboats was based off of the weight of the ship and for a while now the ships weight that were built were way over to what ships existed when the laws were created, they just weren't "updated"). The reason behind this is in those days they didn't think of lifeboats as something to hold people for long periods of time until rescue arrives, but because the shipping lanes were so busy that another ship would always be near enough to use the lifeboats to ferry passengers between the two ships. Ironically, there was a ship close to the Titanic, the SS Californian which has stopped for the night because of an icefield (they were essentially trapped). They even saw the rockets but they weren't sure if it's because of distress or a party. They tried to contact the Titanic with a morse lamp but there was no reply.

Interesting fact: William M. Murdoch has been hailed lately for being a hero during the sinking. He was portrayed completely different in the '97 movie. He was the one that shot himself during the sinking in the movie. Historians mostly agree that he worked until the last minute to fill lifeboats with as many people as he could.
I thought it was awful that in a movie filled with a mixture of real life and fictional characters, James Cameron chose to besmirch the legacy of a true hero who died young saving others. He could easily have given those scenes to an un-named fictional officer. He chose to do that damage. And then brag about how historically accurate the ship in the movie is. Hey, I guess as long as those chandeliers and clocks are exact replicas, that's the main thing. People? Not so important.
A few factoids. Cameron built an almost exact duplicate of the ship that was so real, the few titanic survivors alive at the time they had interviewed for the movie had a hard time walking the decks as it brought it all back. Also the king of the world scene at the bow inspired so many people to try to do the same on bows of cruise ships and other passenger boats they had to institute rules to not allow passengers on the bow. Next the drawing of a naked rose was actually drawn by Cameron himself so the hand you saw drawing was his. Next the fact was if the titanic had steered straight into the iceberg they probably would have stayed afloat until the carpathia arrived or perhaps even the Californian which wasn't far away but didn't believe a ship was sinking so ignored it, because the bow is the strongest part of the ship. But human nature is to turn to avoid the obstacle so it hit at tbe exact worse spot and scraped the length of the ship opening not a gaping hole as they thought for centuries until the wreck was discovered but and opening no wider than a hand but as it ran the length of the ship it compromised all watertight rooms, which made it sink in just over 2 hours. Ismay never lived down the sinking and I'm sure wished he had gone down with the ship. And I believe it was the disparity of the classes that died ( majority 3rd class) that led to reworking the system of class distinction. In fact it's believed that due to lack of instruction and lt understanding English made 3rd class passengers get lost and never found the way up to deck more than closed gates. And finally, ya my take was on the ending rose passed over the wreck and her spirit rejoined jack. Sorry about length of comment but I'm a titanic buff so love this subject.
My favorite film. I just saw this in theaters in March even though I have seen it many times. I was too young when it came out. It was excellent in theaters!
I am going to be as honest as possible. This movie wrecked me. I was 10 years old when it came out. I wanted to watch another movie SO bad.. something like "jingle all the way" rather.. idk.. but I really got mad at my parents because they forced me to see this. So I had to SIT in my stupid chair and watch some historical movie for the next like 3 hours. Half way in. I am so goddamn interested in what is happening.. it is like reality didn't even exist. Ultimately.. I laughed.. I cried.. I loved. And when I left the theater.. I said to my mother "That was the best movie I've ever seen mom!"
The world was shocked when Titanic when down and it really shouldn’t have sank. The four liners in its class were well designed and built by seasoned workers with quality materials. Yes, there was a fire in one of the coal bunkers but that was not a fatal flaw. There dozens and dozens of liners cruising in what was a conga line. Normally ships could see each other or were very close. Titanic was 4 hours from the closest ship. At the time, life boats were intended to ferry people from a crippled ship to an undamaged ship. Titanic wasn’t near enough to do that. The weather was exceptionally clear. Several captains remarked on that. This meant that it was very difficult to see any icebergs. Also, the rule at the time was to travers the iceberg zone as quickly as possible. If the lookouts had either given clear directions with plenty of time or if they could see the iceberg at all, the ship would not have sunk. Many ships turned off their radios at night because most crewmen couldn’t operate them. The rockets were lost in the starry sky and no one would have notice them And finally, this was Captain Smith final voyage before retirement and he was no up the the task. The movie is right showing him standing around with a blank look on he face. It was so tragic. I met one of the passengers in the 1st grade in the 60’s. He was 7 years old and lost his father in the sinking.

Yes, they did really go down there. Cameron is a stickler to doing that. He's developed a lot of undersea technology on his own. From mini subs to diving suit helmets and he's been able to patent several inventions such as a multi station air tank refueling station for topping off air tanks without having to surface. The Submarine Cameron used to go to the Challenger deep was developed by him and custom built to his specifications.
There is picture Tara that you look up online or even on RU-vid showing the comparison between Titanic and of the biggest modern cruise ship currently afloat. It is amazing to see the photo comparison and how much Titanic, an ocean liner, is dwarfed by the largest modern cruise ship “Symphony Of The Seas” which is twice as high, twice as wide, a least a hundred feet longer than Titanic. It is crazy to think that Titanic, the largest ship of its day and a very large ship in and of itself is absolutely dwarf when pictured against the biggest modern cruise ship “Symphony Of The Seas.’

They didnt "cut corners" during the building of Titanic, she was as modern and as up-to-date as could be in 1912, with all the current safety equipment and safety factors of the day built in her, and it has to be remembered that the damage Titanic sustained was far greater than anyone could have foreseen, and certainly far greater than she could have reasonably been capable of surviving. In fact, it's quite possible that had Titanic hit the iceberg head on, rather than the glancing blow she actually took, she probably would have survived, since fewer watertight compartments would have been opened to the sea.....the real issue was that the Board of Trade regulations governing the number of lifeboat places were drawn up some 30 years earlier, when ships were nowhere near the size of Titanic, which specified a maximum number of such places for ships "over 10,000 tons" and which were more than adequate for the time they were inaugurated........ Titanic, built in 1912, exceeded that 10,000 ton figure by almost 50,000 tons......she was enormous, but the regulations had not been changed or updated, so she carried sufficient lifeboats to comply with the regulations (In fact she exceeded them slightly)but which was actually far below the number of passengers and crew actually aboard the ship. Even if EVERY single lifeboat place available had been filled, there would still have been over 700 people left aboard Titanic with only their lifejackets and nowhere to go.......... after the disaster, the regulations were re-written, so that the number of passengers was the key factor in the number of lifeboats, thereby allowing enough places for everyone being carried aboard the ship, rather than the old regulation which was based upon the tonnage of the ship, and which stated that for a given tonnage, the ship has to carry "x" lifeboats, without actually ensuring that that number was actually enough for the passengers and crew whose lives they were supposed to save,,,,,,,
A lot of people think she died at the end. I’ve always thought it’s possible she could be dreaming because in the song “My Heart Will Go On” it’s says “Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you.”
And when does that song play in the movie? Right after that final scene where Jack and Rose are reunited to the applause of the other victims of the tragedy.

As for the movie, I saw it in the theaters and it was a well done, but sad movie. Still one of the best James Cameron has ever done. There were a few survivors at the time this movie was being made sadly there’s no more survivors left they all passed away. The under water stuff in the beginning some of that is the real ship. You probably figured this out but Jack and Rose are not real people the story is just told through them but there was a guy named Jack Dawson on the Titanic that was discovered after the movie was made so that’s kinda cool. Third class passengers were not trapped down below by the crew that’s just a movie thing but most third class passengers were immigrants and most did not speak English and most gave up trying to navigate the ship and just went back to their cabins very sad. I’d recommend looking at the making of the movie it’s very good if you are curious about the Titanic there’s a great video on you tube called What’s Inside Titanic by the you tuber Jared Owen very good video. Lastly there’s a you tube channel called Historic Travels that goes into detail about Titanic’s history very good you tube channel.
Fun fact the guy that was on the stern with Jack and Rose with the mustache was real man that rode titanic all the way down and ended up surviving with alcohol in his system he was in the freezing waters for 4 hours before he was rescued
I said it before, in other commentaries that you should read the life story of Molly Brown (the woman who gave Jack the tux). She was truly a remarkable woman.
Sad fact: the lookout that spotted the iceberg was called Frederick Fleet. he survived. After the disaster he fell into a deep depression and suffered from survivors guilt. A mix of that and being evicted from the house he lived in with his sister led him to hang himself in 1965. He was 77.

We switched over to fuel oil shortly after the Titanic. She actually already had plans on paper for her fuel oil conversion, so there wouldnt be dozens of coalers like that. Her sister ship, the Britanic, would go on to recieve the fuel oil conversion.
Finally someone who agrees with me that she's dreaming at the end. It's crazy how ANNOYED people get if you don't think she was dead. She may have been dying at the end, but either way, that was a dream. She'd just spent the entire day conjuring up memories that she had burried deep down for decades, never once telling anybody. Of course she'd f-ing dream about it that night. I don't mind people thinking she died, that's clearly the majority opinion. But I don't change my mind just to go with the majority. I think what I think. And I think it's sad that people have to get so angry and annoyed about it. Why do they care so much if people see it as a dream? Titanic is such a beautiful movie, and it represents the tragic death of hundreds of real life human beings. And instead of thinking about that message and all those real people who lost their lives, people fight with complete strangers on the internet about a fictional character and whether she died at the end of a movie or not. Hopeless.
This movie is a much better experience if you actually know a little about the Titanic history. All of the work they put into it to try and make it as historically accurate as possible in 1997 is appreciated when you have some knowledge of the history.
It was such a random tragedy of timing….had they seen it slightly earlier they would have missed it and had they seen it slightly later they would have been able to stay afloat. The reason the lifeboats only had enough for half was that they weren’t meant to hold everyone at once. They were meant to move groups off the boat to whatever boat helped them (in this case the carpathia) despite what people think it was actually way ahead of safety for the time. It was bad luck, bad timing and arrogance.
2:08 2,224 people got on Titanic to go to America only 710 made it. 2:18 Yes. The outside shots are the real ship but, some of the inside shots are a set that they flooded. 13:32 Actually the law at the time said that a ship of Titanic's size would need 16 lifeboats to be legal and Titanic had 20. After Titanic sank the law of how many lifeboats was needed was changed from how big a ship is to how many people are on board. rose wasn't based on a real person but there were a few real victims refrenced in the movie such as the founders of macy's who were the couple who drowned in bed and apparently when the movie came out there were just 2 survivors left (i heard they were invited to the premiere) the woman was a kid & the man was an infant one of them saw it in theateres i believe it was her & him he waited for the VHS to see with his family both died not long after

The "not enough lifeboats" thing is a bit misleading. While it was true that there weren't enough lifeboats to evacuate all on board, that wasn't really what they were intended for. Their intended purpose was to ferry passengers to another ship since the Atlantic was full of ships at this time. Even if they had added more boats, it wouldn't have done much good anyway. As the movie pretty accurately depicts, they simply wouldn't have had the time to launch more boats.
