In questa registrazione Tito Gobbi possiede uno splendore vocale tale, da ricordare i grandi campioni del passato. Tenendo conto poi delle ben note qualità interpretative, c'è una sola espressione: immenso!

I saw Bergonzi at the Met every year for 30 years starting with Rodolfo opposite Tabaldi. Gobbi was the quintisential Scarpia. Both are great maetros.

The same man who song Iago and Rigoletto song Falstaff and, with the same facility, Belcore. Truly, the best.

Grazie Tito

I don't know if this has already been said but this recording is too fast. The RPM is sped up which is why it's actually a semitone higher and why everything sounds brighter than it would normally. You can see this particularly in the quick movement. So that top G# at the end is actually a top G AND Gobbi's voice is a fair bit darker than this (although maintaining his lovely brightness still). Any way it could be re-uploaded at the correct speed?

As soon as I saw Gobbi, I thought Nemorino stands no chance in getting Adina 🤣🤣

This clip alone shows why people who have remarked on other Tito Gobbi clips that he had a poor technique were & are talking out of their backsides! All singers pick up poor vocal habits eventually to a greater or lesser degree over time, especially when they employ their voice like a chameleon to depict character like Gobbi. But in his early carreer it employed a technique without flaw, which is WHY the voice was so beautiful & adaptable.

A Tito Gobbi classic: A great portrayal! By the way: Who is the young Carlo Bergonzi type of Nemorino? He really looks like and made a phrase like Bergonzi...

Try practicing 'oo' and 'ee' in pure falsetto. I have been doing this for a couple of years and can now sing up to G with ease (sometimes Aflat), when before I couldn't get above E. It stretches the vocal cords. You should never have to push or strain.
