I just started playing T7 and I really like Kazuya. I feel like I am learning way faster. The fact that he really only has 10 moves is less intimidating as a noob and lets me focus on actual game plans and reading the opponent.

Kazuya was my first character that I actually learned inside & out. So I owned & played every tekken since Tekken 2. However I didn’t know the depths of the game until the 6th installment. From tekken 2 to 5, I was younger & didn’t even know about juggling & combos outside of the 10 hit combo. I knew the concept of punishing but didn’t know the term for it, I just simply knew how to block & attack back lol. But Tekken 6 was a year that I was a bit older & actually sat down & learned the command list. They had the sample combos at the bottom of the list of course & that was back when you couldn’t see the inputs for the sample juggles so you had to know the moves by memory. Tekken 6 also started the juggle off the ground animation which is when combos really started to get insane. I picked Kazuya because I have memories going back as far as I can remember, as being a little kid & always losing to a guy with black hair, a red eye, lightning kicks, & a spinning lightning uppercut. So jump years later when I sat down & learned Kazuya, I realized that Kazuya was the character I have strong strong memories of. (My memories are also mixed with Jin from tekken 3 since he resembles kazuya a lot & literally still does the Mishima-style karate.) & MainMan I’ve been watching you since Tekken 6 man. Lol. I wanted to get better at kazuya & RU-vid was already going strong at the time so I looked into it & there I found you. Teaching me about EWGF. Now we’re both fathers... playing tekken still to this day👌🏼💯🔥

Sheer determination was my experience. No understanding of frames etc when I picked him up in TTT2 since childhood T3. Win rate was around 32% iirc. ALOT of asswhoopins. But. When it clicks and you engage brain, the feeling and reward for your efforts is like the gift that keeps on giving. Nothing really to add, great analogy and breakdown. 1st thing said defo the most important thing to consider. "How serious are you about Tekken?" - cuts straight to the meat of the subject 👌

Just noticed that I forgot to reply to your old comment a few weeks ago when I asked you how you were doing and you replied. Sorry bud! I've not been too great, some personal problems but life goes on! Otherwise I'm ok. From what I know I'm healthy at least haha. And to your comment, I 100% agree. I personally picked up Steve as my first character (I used others in Tekkens before he got introduced obviously, but Steve was the first serious one) and I didn't even know he was one of the hardest characters in the game. It's no surprise that him and Kaz have amongst the lowest win rates online, because as a beginner and intermediate they are just hard as fuck to play, as TMM explained pretty well. I got my ass whopped a LOT (and still do) but due to Steve being my first, it made me learn proper Tekken. There was no easy mode with him. Just like Kazuya Steve works a lot with timing, so knowing the matchups is vital for success, since you need to know when and where to place your counter hits. But I love the challenge and never gave up. I fell many, many times, but always got up and improved. And I don't regret picking up Steve for a second. It is really a matter of how serious you want to get into Tekken, or how much effort you plan on putting into it. If you are ready to work your ass off, then Steve, Kazuya, Bryan are excellent picks. It feels very rewarding when your hard training finally pays off and you see some results. But if you want instant gratification, then those are not for you.

@@disruptor6550 Hey Nx Worries! Sorry to hear you've been thrown a few curveballs lately chief. Glad to hear your still grinding away at the o'l wheel of life amidst all the negative stuff going on in the world tho. Was gonna say 'Samsara' but we don't want people taking you for a filthy u4 panic mashing DVJ 😉 *Very aptly named move when you look into after losing a match to a high/low crush from it* 👍 Hat off for the Steve, took me a LONG time to appreciate him. My mate knows only too well I was probably more toxic than I'd like to admit in the matchup, needed ALOT patience than I gave credit for 😅 Lots of CHs were ate but he's now one of my favourite matches as most of his useful tools are -13 and -14 so great for FC pewgfs and otherwise, learning guard animations and timings. *holds hands up* Learning Bryan still has me scared. That feeling of when you find someone who almost never fails the tech catch, (whether you delay it or not) Ooft! Luckily I have a multi-char sparring buddy who picks up even Nina's butterfly cancels in just a few days and rarely drops them. It feels cheap to vs someone with that level of consistency but its one of those thing's where I dont think you can truly appreciate til you try it for yourself. I used to think it was a cheap wallcarry gimmick but now its the same with seeing b2 Lee combos, really just left in awe at the execution. So many characters have advanced levels that you can't 'just pick up' without having some grit in you to persevere. It really is testament to how diverse the roster is. Characters that are played in completely unique fashions while still having flexibility. Recently been learning Kuni from Fergus' vids and it's amazing how much love they put into animating a character that never even made the cut for T7. Such a fun and fluid character tho I think she's lacking alot of portable moves that can animate the Corkscrew so will probably need a hefty redesign to bring her up to date - time will tell.

@@malk2good indeed. I was meaning with regard to playing Tekken when you were barely into double digits as a kid (prior to the internet) VS rediscovering the game 15 or so years later and learning how to play the game and using online content like TMM to get up to speed. While growing up we used a TV show in the UK called 'Gamesville' - with a segment called 'Ask the games guru' (was for old style cheat codes and stuff like that etc.). I used to watch hoping someone wrote in asking just the hell '⭐' meant. It was always in the manuals of the PS1 Tekkens but it never explained what it meant... Anywhere. Was the first thing the 20 yr old me looked up when I learnt Tekken had survived all these years I'd been away. Truly a face slap moment but I was just a kid and to me it was a hidden move. I'd still never have learnt unless the internet was a thing. Imagine loving Kazuya and never knowing how to EWGF or HS 😅👍 But from total bambi to where I am now a few years later. Plenty of online humility along the way ofc but once you find the value in that, your pretty much there mentally to stick it with your chosen character whoever you pick and whatever your skill lvl.

@@CallousCyclone You absolutely nailed it there mate. As you mentioned, things like Nina's butterfly cancels/combos, Lee's b2, etc (insert any similar stuff here)... you just tend to not appreciate those that much, until you eventually try it yourself. It's really easy to label someone or something as gimmicky or cheap if you only look at it from the outside. But many things that look easy, and often piss you off online, gain your respect after you try them out yourself. I'm not a Nina player (never was, and never will be) but I was curious about those fancy combos of hers and I couldn't pull them off for the life of me, even after some practice (I mean, I managed to pull them off, but the success rate was ridiculously low). Maybe it's because my execution is far from insane in general; it's probably average, but I'm definitely not terrible and not the only one who just can't pick those things up in an instant. After trying things like these out, I appreciate and respect them whenever I see people pull it off against me online or during matches I watch, because I know that they are by far not as easy at they seem to be. I wish more people had such a mindset and went out of their comfort zone to try these things out instead of judging them without even having a single minute of experience with it. I'm really tired of people calling characters like Steve or Kazuya easy, cheap, braindead, when they haven't even played them for a minute. Because if they did, they would take those words back easily. They probably lost to them online and now think they know the character. People just need to get out of their shells and discover the variety of the whole roster. Instead of being toxic, we need to learn to appreciate and respect each other, in order to create the best possible fighting game community ever :)

He's the easiest mishima to start with to get a good fundamental foundation of how the game works. But will get extremely harder the further you excell. Whereas Devil Jin it gets easier once your execution and fundamental are solid. Heihachi is just all round hard due to no great lows to enforce mixups and rely mainly on frame pressure traps.

I think heihachi is best beginner Mishima because well good no of ch launchers best pokes of any Mishima a 12 frame panic move (same with Jin ) stance utility that isn't demanding as b3 f 1 microdash with Jin and I believe Jin is good for same reason to start Kazuya is definitely better once you have hang of Mishima playstyle and honestly the king of punishment especially the devil adds flaiz to kazuya

I recently added Kazuya to my roster, which consisted of Jin and Eddy. Now I feel like Kazuya is basically Jin-supercut, and feels extremely simple to me. With Kazuya you use like 10 moves, while in order to get results with Jin you pretty much have to utilize ~25 highly situational moves. I enjoy Kazuya a lot, but he is far from Jin in terms of being hard to get into. But at the same time, you can only win with Kazuya by playing the correct way, while Jin has some bullshit you can cheese people with to some degree, but it tops out much sooner than on bullshit-focused characters, and then you have to start playing correctly.
@Ty1350
@Ty1350 2 года назад
I agree that Jin seems harder at first, I think Kazuya can be a bit harder for matches against people who know what they’re doing because they know how limited his moveset is and plan accordingly. You have to think more about what move to use with Jin but the timing is a lot more forgiving

Awesome video my brother and picture perfect breakdown of Kazuya, Tekken overall, Time demands, Pros and Cons, thought and training process etc I love the shout out to Bryan as well for being so difficult to master. That's MY guy and has always been my Secondary character. The passion for something can completely over shadow the hardship in many cases. I never saw Bryan as difficult to learn for years, but as people who asked me for advice that were losing started to approach me, I started to understand views I never thought about. While it felt natural for me to pick him up, actually explaining his game plan in comparison to other characters made me realize how hard he had it. Me loving him and enjoying him so much made me not feel the struggle at all. However, the more you understand, the easier it is to see the struggle haha. Makes me love em even more though because it makes you respect great Bryan players for the work they had to put in. Great video once again my man. Keep up the great work.

Kazuya is a very technical character. Very hard to master. Its true what TMM said, if you Lab Kazuya, you don't lab him, you lab the opponent/dummy that you will chose to practice. Frame data is extremely important to Kazuya because he needs to maximize whiff and block punishes. Once you get good at Kazuya, he for me is the most satisfying and rewarding character in the game.

I've played him in these years of explore, after came the two and I could play him as secret boss, he were cool but I think I was for the Tekken two a versatile player, I 've enjoyed most of all the carachters in the second opus. After came the Three, it was awesome with Jin players, Eddy, Bryan ... but Kaz. wasn't there. That 's most of my memories, my youthness and all the things that goes with it. I've played the four but from this one I've starded to interest for other things. And so I'm back to Tekken 7 maybe 20 years after this, so of course I started to play Kazuya, after more than 1180 wins I'm still Juggernaut , You gave the answer, I have to left him now and using another carachter, the step is difficult to admit but I have to do it and I swear i'll be back to him later. Thanks for what you're doing for the Tekken communauty.

Holy shit this video hit me hard I'm 1 year full on Kazuya and you don't know how many times I rage, felt euphoria and the thousand other emotions this character makes you feel I. started taking the game serious with Alisa transition (blue ranks) to Josie (yellow) but then I noticed that I was just mashing my way into ranks instead of learning fundamentals and movement so I've switch to Diablo Jin cause at the time Qudans was my favourite player and mishimas was I dream of mine to play but was scared on how much it requires to play them and have fun from there my defence and knowledge of the game improved vastly but it was really hard (stuck on greens) with 200+ matches but was very proud I was improving slowly but I never had this much fun before and change my perspective completely on how to play tekken, even tho I was losing a lot Ive always had an eye on kazuya because he looked cool af with the smooth ass matrix looking jacket and ofc combos, wavu, pewgf (which I was very good and learned very fast) but there was also something about how hard he was to master and the dedication you needed, but by watching tmm and tournaments I just got trapped and started to play him, even tho I was doing better than when I was playing dj... Wow there's just days were I just want to straight up uninstall the game or even quit forever cause it was a struggle mostly when I was on yellow ranks plus myself being a defensive turtle well he struggle against cheese or string heavy mix ups was deadly but thanks to that he made me push myself and even have more knowledge than ever and now I am at seryu (red ranks) with him with a 879 wins (49.8% ranked win ratio) and still got a lot to improve even now there's times that I feel hopeless because you WILL get on a massive lose streak even against players on which you know exactly how to punish and you know you can totally win but if the execution is not there, your not focused or your defence is lacking Kazuya I not forgiving he will make you suffer but when you do well the feeling its just amazing even tho I still struggle I don't regret maining Kazuya when I feel off I tend to switch and get pretty easy higher ranks with other characters I like because tbh I like playing all the cast (that's al thanks to my good fundamentals learned with mishimas) my goal will always be present on my mind with kazuya and the mishimas that is to one day reach a level on which I could say to myself that I mastered the Mishima play style. Came from Street Fighter in 2018, no prior Tekken experience but always told myself if I ever tried it I'd play Kazuya. It's now 2020 and I've only played as Kaz until recently. Stayed in Green for a long time, floated in yellow for most of last year, and now I'm finally in orange. Some days I'm really "on" and can even hold my own(or straight up beat) players in red and above, while days that I'm sloppy or compromised has me falling into flowchart/yellow rank habits. It's a constant struggle, but learning this game with Kazuya has been a real joy, because every inch of progress feels earned, tooth and nail. I might not be the best Kazuya at 2 years in, but I'm really satisfied with the progress I've made up til now, especially since I feel like I'm at another plateau that's just waiting to be demolished by some new revelation or bout of training.

I first started Tekken 6 and my first character was Devil Jin. It was hard at first, and I got to slowly learn the matchups and how to do his mix-ups gradually. Wave Dash was one of the hardest to master during that time. And beginner me was just spamming df2 or uf4 as launchers. Then I tried Kazuya for one and it was hardest than Devil Jin. The mix-ups of Kazuya was harder to execute considering the frames, and the amount of times you will spend to know the matchups and timings will eventually pay off in the long run.

I just got tekken 7 a couple days ago. Used to play tekken 4 as a kid and Kazuya and Hwoarang were my favorite. I played a couple ranked matches and went 4-3 with him using the basics I learned from a guide, even if I only understood half of it. He does feel really difficult but I hope to keep getting better

It was a hard journey. I could of followed everyone's advice and picked Kazumi or Shaheen but I stuck it out. I play 12 characters all because I was able to learn fundamentals, remember which moves were punishable by 112 or twin pistons so that made learning frame data easier. Definitely worth it oppose to paying to win with some of the DLCs we have nowadays

I absolutely love this character strictly for the nostalgia and memories he brings , my brother had a PS1 and I used to beg him to play tekken 3 every day and lose every day, he used to play with Kazuya and I’d play with Jin I would love seeing the electrics and heelsweeps. Fast forward through T4,T5 and T6 ; tekken 7 is where I fell in love with the character again. Although recently I discovered that Devil Jin is basically tekken 3 Jin and I’m trying to addd him to the roster . I will forever love kazuya he teaches you how to play tekken the hard way and I’ll always remember that

Been playing kaz for about two games(on and off) he’s all about fundamentals, he’s offensive is easy to anticipate and he has clear weaknesses. 80% of he’s moves are complete garbage but he does have really strong block punishment and juggle damage hidden by behind a huge execution barrier and I frames input.

Just a bit sad my dad had to sell the psp since we weren't really that well off in life that time. I just picked up Tekken 7 thanks to the discount on the PS Store and I am willing to put more effort into learning the game possiblymaining Kazuya. I was just wondering, when people talk about electric and Mishimas and Kazuya having the worst out of them are they simply referring to attacks that incorporate lightning? If so do they have any special properties? Thank you!

Been casually playing Kazuya since T2 (played a lotta Jin in T3 and didn't touch T4), imagine me finally reaching a point where I can sorta land electrics near the end of Tag 2. Still enjoy playing Kazuya, but unfortunately I always gravitate towards characters with a low execution bar (cuz I prefer focusing on the game than the character) over the more complex ones. So he's just there for me to play when I wanna fuck around.

I've been playing Tekken since the first part. And since the first part I play Kazuya; but not aggressively online and competitively. The character is, in relation to other characters, very focused and - I always say - limited in its possibilities compared to other characters. If you want to play Kazuya, you have to learn how to block first. There are a couple of tricks you can use that make the gameplay super fun. I'm currently playing my way up the Treasure fight for the second time and enjoying it. With Kazuya you have to let the opponent come, at least I always do best with that tactic. Whether I could and would play a real tournament with him I don't know. I only know that it is worthwhile to deal with the character. What also helped me was to play Kazuya repeatedly from the beginning, from T1 to T7, to get a better feeling for speed and moveset. I don't understand any of the tournament talk ☺️ but yes, Kazuya is difficult, quite ponderous and certainly not the best choice for beginners. I love him.

I chose to start playing Kazuya solely because I knew playing him would *force* me to become better at Tekken. It’s worked in some ways and helped me scout out some bad habits, but man.... this shit is something else. Especially since I always choose to play on the left side. I can wavedash from the right, left is a struggle for me. But it’s still worth it cause hitting people with Kazuya feels damn good

JDCR says mishima's wave dash game doesn't transfer over to other characters, and only gets you nasty habits when playing other characters. That's why he recommended playing a well rounded character like paul or Marshall, so you can learn everything about the game and have an easier time picking up the specialist characters later.

I would say a good character for beginners who wants to learn fundamentals would be jack... at the very least, jack has brain-dead execution minus the ONE combo (tho it can somehow be replaced with db 2 except for tip range). So you can focus your mind solely on the fundamentals. And what's better, jack doesnt have any panic move so Jack strictly requires good fundamentals which forces the player to be actually good in tekken

I actually think he has some great tools in his arsenal to crush other beginners or intermediates level players. His rage art is probably the thing that will work 99% of the time against beginners or intermediates and due to the damage done you will end most of the rounds with it if you are having issues. Kazuya is probably more difficult to use at higher levels, except when it's some crazy high level where people like Novi will crush everyone.
@abirneji

I'd say jin and kazuya are the same difficulty, but jin just gives you more of a reward once you cross that barrier also idk if ling and yoshi are good in beginner ranks, they can confuse the enemy but since everyone is just mashing, it's gonna be pretty even the characters who steamroll at the beginning are string characters and power characters
@2000Doriyas
@2000Doriyas 4 года назад
Jin being less difficult in lower ranks would come from having strong pokes like df1 b21 d4 f4 f3 and good pressure on block strings while having an easy 15f launcher in d3+4, a launching hellsweep and being all round in general with great block punishment and whiff punishment but obviously his execution is nearly or just as hard as Kazuya, just that he has a complete kit of fundamental tools to use where kaz does not.

Jin's difficulty is so overrated. Yeah hes harder than your average character but he doesnt come in the same tier as bryan, kaz or the other mishimas. He just has too many good tools and a lot of stuff that helps him in lower ranks. Mastering his parry or his optimal combos is whats hardest but you can do so well without them.

Kaz has had some godsend tools given to him this game. In Tag 2 he had strong combo damage but no pokes and his oki game was very lackluster since you had to get very close to get stomp. You're in much better hands getting at him as a know nothing in this game compared to T6 or Tag 2. I was a 52%-55% player from T6 to the first few years of T7, but in the past 2 years I spiked into 65%-70% win rate now that I've seen all the gimmicks and conditioned myself to let the button pushers destroy themselves with the gimmicks until they stop pressing buttons, and to not let myself get sucked into them. And now, with all the tools he's got this game, you can actually press your advantage when you get it. Only took 12 years lol

Tekken Tag 1 my first fighting game ever. I spammed kicks to get through fights on low difficulties as every character to get all the endings until I realized the practice mode. It was there I decided Kazuya would be the first character I want to learn how to actually play because he had the best goddamn drip in that shiny purple tux. when I found out how to use those advanced Mishima command inputs and some combos, that was when I realized what made fighting games as a whole so enjoyable and I've been hooked on the genre since. Tekken of course being my most played mostly for Kazuya because he made me bisexual. As difficult as he is to play, I've simply gotten used to his playstyle and simply don't enjoy playing the actual "beginner friendly" characters so I'll take those Ls because he actually makes you learn every other character in the game anyway when you need to analyze the other player arguably more than with any other character and go for outplays.
