Like, is Gigas an OVERPOWERED BS character just because he has a huge 50/50 with his rage drive? The difference is the AMOUNT of BS moves that a character has. Kazuya has a few, but fuck me does Hwo have a fuck ton. At this point, I just think that he's shitting on every other character so that all the attention is towards against the other character. But no amount of bullshit can hide the bullshit of Hwo.

I mean its not like Taekwondo doesn't have throws and takedowns, the real issue is giving a character that works around completely overwhelming your opponent with fast lows, mids and long uninteruptable strings a full set of grabs.

Ignoring the game stuff, I did taekwondo basically to black belt (technically red because black was too expensive dam) and I can't even remember ever using my hands for anything besides patterns. Even for sparring they teach you to just hop around actually, not to block with your arms. Not once did they ever teach me a throw, instead I did judo separately.

The thing with Kazuya's 50/50 mix up is that this can be dealt by sidewalking to his weak side. The only problem with that would be is that his electric can be tracked as TMM stated. However most of his other moves like hellsweep can be sidewalked and punished. I think k wiss is just emotionally stressed out after that tournament loss, and he needs break.
Sidewalking left is completely countered by doing even the smallest of wavedash/regular dash forward to realign. With how shitty movement is in this game any form of realign makes everything he does track, and not to mention he no longer has to commit to any risk to counter stepping because he can wavedash into ws1+2.
There are so many things in this game that "can be dealt by sidestepping/waking to the weak side" but then you just get hit with random shit anyway that shouldn't have any tracking. The EWGF is just worse than some other moves in this regard, imo. The pseudo homing electrics are so annoying but at the same time that could be partially the issue that movement in Tekken 7 isn't as good as it could be either.
The times I've gotten beat by Kazuya was when the opponent had stronger fundamentals than me. I feel really impressed when they make it virtually impossible to use Nina's strings. When I get beat by Hwoarang, I feel they button pressed me to death. But I get it that Hwoarang's gameplay is to be aggressive since I main Nina (who also has a reputation for being cheesy).
K-Wiss is a talented player - and i know that TMM means no ill will towards K-wiss but he is to be frank: a total ignoramus when it comes to game balance. All of his hot takes are ridiculously short sighted and not thought through at all. You should honestly just ignore anything he says about balance, and just watch him play tournaments, because that's the only thing he's really good for.
Isn't someone constantly pressing buttons when he is minus a masher? This guy almost always challenges, that's just his playstyle. And calling someone a masher in this context has nothing to do with evaluating how good he is. He has some good stuff (very fast teleport, chip damage, good unbreakable combo damage) but he is very unsafe and you always have to risk while using him (not to mention he can't zone at all). He definitely requires a lot of skill on higher levels (especially with his teleport cancels).

I think Kazuya is annoying only for its vortex, and it needs to be done right and can be hard countered by a sidestep left. His ff4 is kinda dumb but in a game like tekken 7 with all the bullshit characters it has its not a cancer move in any means. They should keep the whiff recovery but remove or lighten its tracking atleast, so people who sidestep it doesn't get clipped and lauched and they can punish it, maybe not with a launch themselves but a 12f/13f for sure so it can be less spammable BUT your opponents needs to commit to it and try so sidestap. He was annoyed also by his ws1+2 and I think its a fine move, almost no one uses it and doing it after a wavedash is so extremely hard that it shouldn't be a topic for complaint. Db4 hitting grounded I don't get why its bad becuase its just a tool you have, for grounded opponents you have ff4 which is way more powerful. Kazuya is strong but atleast you can do something with him, against hwoarang for example at some point you have to guess 50/50 from a -10 lightning fast mid launcher or an hellsweep, and seeing his mid launcher does abnormous damage it is a very good 50/50. All characters have bullshit but kazuya atleast needs to have knowledge and movement to play it right and not like an asuka unga unga etc. Why not whine about asuka anna or nina which are way more fucking annoying online? From a competitive point of view kazuya is stronger I think but the majority plays amateur so I will count that. I wrote like shit but I just vomited all it was on my mind lol

That Kazuya was definitely not a masher at all. I find it's a decent strategy to be a bit aggressive with jabs against Hwoarang so he doesn't get any momentum with his whirlwind of attacks.

The move still have a big tracking, but the dash isn't a big of a deal, because it requires a precise step to avoid the EWGF on the proper timing, if you decide to side walk for avoiding the 50/50 is where it's tricky, decide between getting KND'd to death or combo'ed to death
Honestly, I think the electric whiff recovery is as problematic as the tracking. It's really frustrating for me to see it thrown just out of range and not be able to punish at all. And I say this playing mishimas
I remember watching tournaments before the buffs, players barely used EWGF at all. I believe that's the reason for the buff. I would agree with either the recovery or the tracking but not both together.
He is not talking about the mental road u have to pass to learn a character like Kazuya... To get actually good with Kazuya and get amazing wavedashes so your vortex becomes so called "overpowered" takes so much effort and endurance... And what about all the controllers you fuck up to learn his pewgf. I mean look at plantedmedusa he is playing with a wrist glove and the moment I actually got a bit better with Kazuya I now completely understand why he does that lol. It's insane how much u have to think mentally positive forward with that character to actually get good. Especially if u compare it to all the potential cheese characters in this game, where u can 60/40 win games on cheese and braindead flowcharts. you're not wrong though. bringing out kazuya's highest potential is extremely difficult and energy consuming. being able to wavedash and selectively choose to do ws or electric out of it or just stop and then whiff punish with an electric is suuuuper hard.

Theres a difference between being an elitist Mishima player, and a new player, I mean doing all of the wavus to set up perfectly for the 50/50 is just dancing imo, after every Kaz's knockdowns you just have to do 2 wave dashes to set up your 50/50 on the opponent get up, it's not even a thing to wavu like a crazy madman except to show you can do it, the real part is that every one can do hellsweeps and EWGF, and countering both of those with side step requires alot more fundamentals and timings than the Kazuya doing it Talking of the PEWGF is just something to forget, tell me that green ranks players even knows the existence of this attack being 1 frame faster, I never seen anyone using to punish -13 stuff, the only stuff I regularly saw recently is the real hard utility of the move, doing the PEWGF combo on CH df2 and that's it, it's not even something to learn when you pick up Kaz at 1st, you just have to learn a regular EWGF it will do it's magic for you
This Kazuya player is a "masher" in the sense that he challenges a lot at negative frames, not that he is "bad". Good players might choose to challenge a lot as well. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.. That goes for this player for sure. He is good AND he challenges a lot. I don't always agree w/ TMM, but there were some reasonable takes here.

I find Kazuya is definately not the honest paladin you make him out to be MainMan, you get knocked down once by any of Kaz's moves and then you get to wake up into FF3 or Hellsweep and the fun starts all over again. But yeah Kazuya is a soup kitchen saint compared Hwo LMAO. In a game with 5000 bullshit moves I think backlash is easily top 3. I really do find Kaz obnoxious but his counterplay is pretty obvious when electric doesn't track 90 degrees.
Main man definently does try to make him seem easier and more honest then he is, I mean he is a 50/50 type character so it makes sense he's a little dirty. But damn Hwo is mash city . Everyone has said it but I'm gonna say it too. I don't mind going up against Kaz, like ever. The game plan with him is pretty clear. Hworang I def hate though. Not once have I enjoyed playing against Hworang.
As a hwo player, I love playing against Hwoas but kazuyas are harder for me to fight. Getting hellsweeped out of no where sucks and i have to get up from the ground immediately or i am gonna eat a sweep kick. Kazuya's movelist is short but more effective than hwoa's.
I think they´re both obnoxious to fight online...punishing those two online is hard af...and since seemingly everyone nowadays can do the most damaging execution heavy combos (probably because they´re cheating) it feels like they can fuck up multiple times in a round but still erase your life with one wrong read
I'm sure Kwiss wouldn't mind recording a legitimate video or even having a light debate with you. Couple things I wanted to try to clear up in the meantime: A) I dont think he's saying that Kazuya is overpowered, but just annoying to play against, because he requires one knockdown to then effectively control the rest pf the match, sort of like Bryan at the wall. Hwoarang is annoying too, but Kwiss feels like you at least get to disengage and then try again, and aren't stuck for the rest of the round B) when he says "mashing," I don't think he's referring to people spazzing out, but rather just always attacking when at a disadvantage C) and also the way you were talking Gerald is how I feel about Kazuya 😄
I don’t think Kaz is bull shit. His 50/50 is a bit obnoxious but the risk reward is about the same. There are more BS characters that should be nerfed. Like Akuma. THey should jus limit Akuma to one meter not 2
One thing I see often is commentators saying that characters should be nerfed purely because they're tired of losing to them. Obviously the perception of balance in a game as complex as Tekken is subjective, but K-Wiss seems to simply want Kazuya to be "less good" , or at least worse than he seems him, so he can win lol.
Here is the thing with Kazuya. Lets just say for the sake of the argument that Kazuya is BS (which he is not). The thing with Kazuya is in order to have him work you NEED to learn Tekken fundementals. You NEED to learn wavedash input, spacing, punishing frames, etc. If you learn Kazuya, you learn Tekken. With someone like Hwoarang you don't need to learn tekken. You can just mash and you can still play the character. He is in the same category as Lucky Chloe, Katarina, Noctis, Alisa, Josie, etc. You need execution to play a good Kazuya and if a player learns him, then I feel he deserves to use Kazuya to his full potential. Now you say "But isn't it the same argument for Akuma?". Basically yes, but the difference is Kazuya is not broken. If we are gonna nerf Mishimas, I think we should start with the worst offender, Devil Jin. But that is another story.
One more thing to add. As someone who started playing Tekken last year, and picked up Kazuya, and sweated through 100 hours just to reach yellow ranks, I find it insulting calling it BS when I could have easily picked Hwoarang and backlash my way to Seiryu. As now a Hei main, I still see this shit at Blue Ranks on Quick Matches.
Well every player no matter which char needs fundamentals. Everyone has to punish and know frames or movement. But i quess some chars get away with more bs then others (insert purple rank alissa player who cant kbd here)
