@@mcili9161 That's why you must always skip ads, even ones that are part of the video. As I do, because to quote Charlie Brooker "Advertisers are made by absolute Cretins!"
Animation is great, it just needed a better story. Movie probably would have done better if had used recognizable bad guys from cartoons or video games, even if you leave out Shredder.
Well, there is Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that was recently released and it was pretty good and there's a upcoming animated movie based on Rise of the TMNT to premiere on Netflix like the last two Nickelodeon specials. But yeah, I would Love a animated film set in the IDW Publishing TMNT series so I can cheer happy just on the fact that Alopex the mutant arctic fox appeared in it! She's my Waifu at the moment.
GaiaX5 What are you talking about? I’m referring to Nintendo’s decision on the new Mario movie being produced & handled by Illuminations Entertainment, you know, that *one* budget studio that cuts many corners to the point where their films are dull.
Well, the Astro Boy movie sucked bollocks, but I agree that Imagi still had potential. They were also making an original movie called "Cat Tale" about a cat that is adopted by dogs then he goes on an adventure in "Catopolis" to find out who he is. This never-released movie by Imagi looked very interesting. I think Astro Boy deserved it's failure, only on the opinion that the movie is bad. On the other side, Astro Boy is the movie that killed Imagi due to it's failure. Imagi was a studio that had potential to actually make good movies (even a *FREAKING ZELDA THEATRICAL MOVIE* ) after that blunder that was Astro Boy.
EarthHound he didn’t bashed them for having character development it’s more for having development that comes out of nowhere since this movie was supposed to connect to the first live action movie but turtles in that movie were a bit more silly while still having nice quiet serious moments like the fire scene. Here though they’re development doesn’t really add up with Leo going across the world, Ralph going Batman, and Donnie and Mikey getting jobs which doesn’t make sense unless they have bill now?
I thought it was a little bland back then when it came out, but watching it again years later really showed me how it was able to emulate the 2003 series very well. Plus it might also be in part of Michael Bay’s slaughtering of the franchise with those movies of course *shudder*
I wouldn't have seen this movie had it not been for my friend's birthday on the premiere weekend. I was never that into the Turtles, but being in that theatre with a ton of fans that grew up on the original cartoon made the experience very memorable for me. Being a kid and seeing a bunch of 20-somethings wearing the masks and cheering like crazy when each turtle came on screen for the first time was awesome. So my opinion of the movie has always been pretty positive and wondered why there was never a sequel. ...And now I know that that Astroboy movie was the studio's second release and now it aaaaallllll makes sense.
My only memory of that Astro Boy movie involved futilely trying to not hear Nicolas Cage's voice coming out of a character that was clearly not Nicolas Cage.
Yeah I mean honestly that's the only thing I remember about the movie and I remember it being good, so maybe they should've kept that as the main plot, huh?
I liked the story. Finding out the bad guy actually wasn't bad, just trying to correct his mistake so he can finally die is a nice twist. Overall this is probably my favorite TMNT movie from the ones I've seen
@@carbonfibre_ Yep. James is Leo and Mikey (R&C1 Ratchet) is....Mikey. No wonder why the story's writer went on to the R&C movie. (Well that and Sony's film division being crap of course)
I think the idea of the monsters all being in New York is that they were drawn to the next alignment which was about to happen there. there's even a moment when Winters says that "he has some friends that are coming over". hinting that they were probably scattered all around the world beforehand. also, the Winters reveal was pretty solid because prior to that the audience thought that he wants to collect the monsters to free his generals and continue his conquest. I personally really like this movie! probably my second favorite after the original. we have so much Disney/Pixar animated movies nowadays and they all kinda feel the same to me. rewatching this movie recently was so refreshing!
Maybe if IMAGI followed up on their TMNT movie with something based on a less-obscure property (the only other Astro Boy stuff you could find in 2009 was the 2003 anime), then maybe they wouldn't have gone under. In my personal opinion, the Zelda stuff looked dope, so that would have been a good direction to go.
3:42 RebelTaxi: “Raph vs Leo? No, it’s Nathan Drake vs Johnny Test. Picture that.” Me: “More like Nathan Drake vs Ratchet, aka PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.”
Can we talk about how well cast the turtles are in this movie? Seriously, the voice-actors both sound and behave *perfectly* for their respective turtles. I definitely wouldn't have minded if I saw them again in another Ninja Turtles project.
I had nostalgia because of this Movie, i remember some of the first promos when i was on a cinema, making look the return of TMNT on the big screen like a huge thing, and in Movie they also return. However it just was ok, it didn't left a huge impact but it was a nice film.
In finnish dub, they picked the voices of 2003 TMNT series (which was still going at the time) for the dub of this film, so us finnish kids watching were sort of made to believe this was a continuity of that series. The localized DVD even mentioned 2003 series in it's back cover.
I'd like to see a review of that IMAGI Astro Boy movie too honestly. I remember being weirdly excited about it when it came out. I might still have the DVD laying around somewhere..
If he does, I recommend he talk about how alongside the Zelda pilot Imagi made they made an Astro Boy one too. (It's lost besides only a few seconds of footage, storyboards, lighting keys, and screenshots of it)
@@roboz2228 Oh yes! After all this time I didn't know that this studio was responsible for that Zelda footage until it was mentioned in the review. I vaguely remember seeing it ages ago and thinking that it was some kind of student project someone put a lot of work into.
Me too it's my fav movie, I got it on dvd watched it a lot, the va is British and American actors and also appanlly the people who worked on the movie did their research since some a AB fans. It is sad to think that that movie killed a company since not many people know who he was.
@Cynical Joker Gonna have to respectfully disagree on that , considering the future were trying to focus more on story and adding to the lore of the franchise , despite not having the exact same spark of the OG games I still feel they work pretty well .
Imagi I think never got the respect they deserved for their stellar animation quality and their awesome action scenes. If there’s one company I’d love to see be revived, it’s them.
This is my favourite version of turtles. When I was a kid, I thought that this movie takes place in 2003 tv show universe. The movie game also was pretty awesome.
I would have been about 7 or 8 years old when this movie came out, even at that age i knew the story was dumb but i was so impressed with the animation, the visuals and atmosphere that i still watched it often. It had somethimg that only Next Gen achieved to the same level, it was damn entertaining
I remember loving this movie. I had all the Turtles and the mini figures they made for the film. And the Turtle Van. 2007 was all about my DS, Transformers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for me. What a time it was to be alive.
Yeah, 2007 and 2008 were some of the best years of my life. The games, movies and music during that time were really something special, and given the chance to live it all again, I would take it, no questions asked.
@Brandon Spain Maybe, but I'd say it was more focused on reboots if anything, like what Rebel Taxi said. It was a golden age though, no questions asked. 2009 probably had a lot more sequels, but I could be wrong.
I loved TMNT and Astro Boy as a kid, and they hold up even still to this day. It's really a shame Imagi never got the chance to show us what they were truly capable of. I never knew about the planned TMNT sequels or Gatchaman movie, only the cancelled Zelda film. They all looked and sounded great to me.
I kind of LOVE this movie - it's visually beautiful, it gets the characters right, it has freakin' MAKO in it, and the silliness and crazyness of the old mirage comic books is on full display. This was clearly made by a fan (Kevin Munroe). Also the music is awesome! I guess I just can't hate on a movie thet GETS the turtles and also somehow includes 13 different monsters, living statues, a complicated immortal antagonist and the foot getting their butts kicked by everyone in almost every scene and still looking like bad ass ninjas. This is second only to the 1990 movie in my humble opinion.
Originally this was gonna be an "Every IMAGI movie Reviewed" since there's only 2. But I somehow had so much to talk about with TMNT that it became it's own video. Some other day.
Oh yeah, there was actually a second game based off of this movie. It's kind of a generic beat-em-up, but it was...somewhat decent, from what I remember.
Man,it’s sad that imagi has to shut down after the box office failure of Astro boy and we won’t see the two sequels of TMNT (which it might have a good third film than the live action trilogy ending with the disaster known as turtles 3)
Who else love the fact that the original Ratchet from Ratchet and clank(Mikey Kelly) and the current Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) are both Leo and Mikey in the film .
I honestly consider this movie as an underrated masterpiece. The characters are great, the animation is sick, and the music is so damn amazing. I honestly even think the story is pretty good.
I love your intro takes mne back to 2007 when I was 5 my mom ktaking me to blockbuster that was near our house renting spider man back when I was happy watching this makes me feel happy and not depressed thank you for making me happy
FUCK I saw a review for this film a few years back and Raph's armor design has been stuck in the deepest recesses of my mind ever since. I *LOVE* that armor design so fucking much.
They nailed the visuals and the story had some basis in it,it just wasn't polished enough. Too bad the studio won't get any work again, they seemed promising.
I fell asleep during this movie despite being in an early screening. When I was handed a questionnaire including questions about what I thought of the ending, I lied.
Am I the only one who thinks "The Night Watcher" would have made an awesome Sequel to the TMNT series with Raph being on his own with all his brothers gone and even his own master, but making it gritty and have more dark humor. I think it'd make an awesome Spin Off and much better than the current series.... I'm sorry, but I just can't like the series, it doesn't feel like TMNT anymore, just a spin-off.
I watched this film without ads on good old British TV (Thanks Sky and Virgin!). And all I can say is this: Undercooked, undercooked, undercooked. Development hell hurt this film, offshoring the animation to Hong Kong on a budget in 2005-6 hurt this film. The poor writing hurt this film, a lot of things hurt this film. I only felt empty after 4 viewings over the past 3-4 years (Didn't watch it when it was new, I was too busy playing Motorstorm 1 and was also swept up by Ratatoullie to care film-wise). The action and moody themes build-up to a weak ending and the conflict depressingly shallow to boot. I can't personally recommend this film to anyone because boring people is what anoraks do. Better to recommend something WORSE than this film so that the person viewing it feels something. The worst part of it all isn't just the Dev-Hell or the Crap Writing and over-reliance on style, it's actually the fact that this film could have been good in lieu of its meagre budget. A meagre budget that I don't class as an excuse, because I have watched a ton of films with lower budgets that made me feel something, and have enjoyed many cheapo video games that have granted more replay value than most AAA-games on the market. The general mood when this film opened to cinema audiences was just that, disappointing and undercooked. Which is a grave shame, it's also a grave shame that the studio behind this film shut down a few years later. But hey, that's how the industry works. Can't do a thing about that.
