There are many mental hurdles we have to jump over in order to understand what is causing our pain, what to do about it and how to take action to get the results you seek. A pain and symptom free life.
In this video I walk you through a success loop that shows how belief, potential, action and results all tie together. If you are aware of TMS also known as Tension Myositis Syndrome but aren't getting better, give this video a watch.

I'll start off with a compliment here, because this is a good video, especially about the part having to do with the process, which is often slow. When I had chronic back pain many years ago, a struggle for 20 years, I read Sarno's book and was permanently cured in three days. However, over the years I had other TMS issues that became longer struggles to contend with even with the Sarno method. So you make a great point. Regarding fear, it is not something that people can control. This is basic psychology. Fear cannot be turned off, but it takes the awareness of fear to deal with it. I have very little respect for Tony Robbins for a number of good reasons. He is a champion of positive thinking, which is forcing the mind to do something that has no long term effect for most people. There are studies to back this up that you can find on the internet. That being said, the "belief" portion of his equation is not at all necessary in TMS. To believe something is to not actually know it is true. A person cannot force himself to believe anything, so if this is a condition of getting well it becomes an impossibility, or in the least a stumbling block. It is not belief that is required, but rather faith, which means accepting the possibility TMS is real and that your emotions are behind your physical symptoms. Faith is a wait-and-see attitude that does not require belief; it requires going along with the program to see where it takes you.

Before I discovered your channel and Dr Sarno, I noticed that every time I was on vacation, I did not experience any pain whatsoever! I was confused and interested...why?...after seeing your videos, I realized so many things. I bought one of the books of Dr Sarno and I am ready to work hard to get rid off this pain.

Ending TMS does not require "hard work". It requires accurate knowledge, decision and teaching your brain you are already well and safe. This video explains: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3vJgBnrhFt8.html And if you haven't checked out my other channel, please do. ru-vid.comvideos

This is the actual answer to getting unstuck from the process. So many people are led to believe that if they just learn about the concept that is all the work that is required, WRONG! What you need to do is understand why you feel that way, what is making you feel the pain that you are feeling and the answer to that question is different for everyone. But once you have been educated, have a strong belief system that you are having TMS, see the potential, and then find out why you are feeling that way psychologically you can then address the root problem and find and see results. But you need to do all that work in that exact order. Amazing video really covers the basis of this.

I know there is a connection between my symptoms and my emotions. I have tried journaling and then I drop out of it because I get distracted. It’s almost as if my symptoms make me feel better than writing down the emotions I feel through journalism. Thus this is what TMS is and we need to understand the stronghold it has on us.

All of these videos about TMS never explain how to actually treat it. The high level overview is good for those who aren't familiar with it but there's nothing really actionable I can use here.... you mentioned journaling.... Journaling about what? What do I do? Very confused. I do believe I have actual mechanical pain. I can't imagine my missing piece of hip socket is a manifestation of mental trauma. It's literally an absence of bone material allowing my femur to slide out of the socket. What am I missing here? 😢

Nothing to be ashamed of Judy. Many with chronic symptoms have lots of fears. The key is figuring out that your body is not the problem, which I think you told me you have done already. Then, beginning to implement a process of teaching your brain that it is being too over-protective and that it can turn off the pain. The concepts in this video do just that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3vJgBnrhFt8.html

@DanBuglio
@DanBuglio 5 лет назад
Daniella, I too struggled with what to DO to end the pain. Sarno's books are amazing in what he discovered and shared, but his instructions of "think psychologically" and "talk to your brain" were very vague to me. I tried, but the only conclusion I could arrive at when my pain didn't leave was that I must not be "doing it correctly". I never stopped believing TMS was causing my pain, but I didn't know how to end it. Here's what I'll tell you. Pain is there to distract you from your emotions. Period. That being said, the best way for the brain to learn that the distraction is no longer needed is to learn to feel your emotions. That's it. Really. Feeling your emotions is your only job. There are many ways to feel. Some people journal and write out the teeth gnashing descriptions of what they are feeling and why. Some punch pillows. Others will simply ask themselves over and over again "Right now, what emotion am I feeling" (Taught by Adam Heller, the founder of Zero Pain Now - and my mentor) So, learn to feel your emotions. Then soothe yourself and go on with your day. The more focus you put on your symptoms, the more the distraction is working. What do I mean by soothe yourself? Deep breathing, meditation, yoga, walk outside in nature, take a bath, do something that brings you joy. Get yourself out of the fight or flight status. Feel - soothe - feel - soothe. Convince your subconscious that your emotions are normal, not dangerous and once done, the subconscious will stop trying to distract you.

Nicole Sachs youtube videos would be helpful! I would also recommend Kim Deramo's videos about feeling your emotions.. I find that feeling an emotion completely while disengaging from the story is extremely helpful. What that means? If you are really angry at your boss, stop playing the story about why and focus on where the anger is in your body, with curiosity. Feel it shift and move and experience it with full curiosity (and not with the intention to fix it).

What actions to take is the problem I'm having trouble figuring out. Aside from acknowledging and believing in the psychological basis for the pain, which I have done, Dr. Sarno says to make a list of all of the angering things in your past and present, which I've done, and then think about them when you feel the pain. That's as much as I've been able to get from the book, which I review every morning. What other actions are there to take?

@casario2808
@casario2808 3 года назад
For the "why" I recommend folks look into ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and the general principle of be willing to have your (emotionally caused) pain and instead of pushing back at it to take action towards your valued life. I see no reason why mind-body syndrome therapy and mindfulness-based therapy cant go hand in hand. The former helps us release the emotions and start unlearning those pain pathways, the latter helps us keep stress/anxiety down now and into the future.
@Pinecrest55
@Pinecrest55 5 лет назад
Confused. Dr Sarno says we do not have to figure out where the anger or fear etc are coming from or to feel the emotions..there are thousands of events and repressed emotions in a persons life...he says all we need to do is accept the root cause of our pain is from the repression that the pain is not physical..and I have watched numerous people say they were healed just from eading his book or Steve O's book...do we really need to become our own psychologists? Also, I checked the list and not even one TMS Dr. in Florida . Is there another link/list of TMS counselors ie not Dr's per se?
@DanBuglio

Look on the TMSWiki.org for a practitioner directory. I don’t think we need to find the exact emotional feeling or experience to get better. That’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Well, there is virtually no end to the type of symptoms TMS can cause. As it relates to an abscess or ulcers, they may indicate infection. It would be wise to visit a dentist to be sure. However, I will say that stress suppresses both the digestive and immune systems. Chronic stress can lead to digestive challenges and the immune system not working optimally. So, if TMS is Too Much Stress - yes it could lead to what you have going on. That said - I'd go see a dentist if I had an abscess. Just to be sure.

@@Expansion1111 TMS - "too much stress" causes a suppression of the immune system. Focus on turning down the volume of stress. How do we do that? it's often our thoughts about things in our lives that cause the stress. Calm down the thoughts and the stress response can turn off as well.

Being that I have no idea of your history or knowledge of Sarno / TMS, it's tough to say. But here are a few things: Head over to PainFreeYou.com and watch my primer on how pain starts and how it becomes chronic. If you are unsure if you have TMS / Distraction pain or symptoms - enter your email and download the self assessment at PainFreeYou.com. Once done, get to my other RU-vid channel and start to binge watch my videos. I have over 100. Look for topics that resonate with you. ru-vid.com/show-UC_o_MGVac1_ijjIeig37zVQvideos Once you have some education in place, begin a daily practice to feel your emotions, sooth yourself afterwards and begin living your life again. Don't make the focus of your entire day getting better. My videos should give you more guidance. A lot of it is mindset more than a checklist.

I have a habit of suppressing some emotions that I feel make me weak in front of other people. Also, I have a fear of my father since childhood because he was never there for us. I have seen domestic violence in my childhood and today I am suffering from autonomic imbalance, chronic pain and many other disease. Its TMS maybe. I dont know. But whats the action? Please tell. How to get out this thing?

Pallavi Mehta I would recommend the book Zero Pain Now by Adam Heller. Explains what is going on and has actions you can take. The basic premise is to: 1. Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with your body. While the pain is real, The pain is merely a distraction. It’s created by the brain to distract you from emotions your subconscious believes are scary, dangerous, unacceptable or that don’t fit in with your self image. 2. Feel your emotions. All of them. All the time. Learn that emotions are safe. The book can help you with that.

I also love the book by Steve Ozanich, The Great Pain Deception. He goes into great detail about what is really happening in your body and brain.

Open Mind there are many TMS processes you can choose from. I personally used the process described in Zero Pain Now by Adam Heller. Ask and answer over and over “Right now, what emotion am I feeling? I am feeling ________.” You can find the book on Amazon. Or visit my site for more individualized help. DanBuglio.com.

@Ilir Cami A few things. Injuries usually heal. If they don't in several months, something else is often going on. That something else is likely TMS. Could it work for you? I'm not sure. I would suggest you take the pain test on my website. That will tell us with reasonably high accuracy if you can end your pain with this type of approach. www.DanBuglio.com/paintest. As for the books, Sarno is good. I think Zero Pain Now provides you more specific instructions on what to do every single day to end the pain. Sarno's books are a little more vague in their instruction.

What are some other actions I can take beside Journaling or Journal speak daily?
@DanBuglio
@DanBuglio 5 лет назад
Sanchit Bhatnagar your only goal is to feel your emotions. An elegant way to do that is the Zero Pain Now process which is to ask yourself “Right now what emotion am I feeling?” Then answer “I am feeling ________.” Do this over and over throughout your day, especially when you are distracted by the pain. Feel feel feel.

I would also like to add that i saw many dentist and neurologists and did MRI’s but nothing, nobody found the reason for my jaw and ear pain. The neurologist told me that i have something called Atypical facial pain/atypical neuralgia connected with my trigeminal nerve. BUT, like i said, my brain MRI and my trigeminal nerve looks normal. Recently i was even 9 days pain free after the extraction of my root canal tooth. And i thought that that was the reason for the burning and tingling on my face, the lower jaw line and ear. But the symptoms came back. Thankfully it is better than it was, and i cannot believe that after 9 days of no pain and burning sensations i am again questioning what is wrong with me. At first i was sure its TMS but then i kept on going to all the different doctors as i was afraid what if there is a structural problem, and now again I’m questioning what if just the extraction of my root canal wasnt enough and there is a cavitation underneath. Unfortunately the dentists dont have answers for me, for them i am a “hard case”, but in reality there are thousands and thousands people like me. They just kept on saying that i probably have atypical facial pain. What do you think? Can this also be TMS? Oh, and also i do have two black mercury fillings in my 2 teeth :( but otherwise my teeth are not bad...

Dan Buglio thank you so much for this link, i could see that this person had the diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia, thats a very hard thing to heal, and unfortunately doctors say that its chronic, but doctors say that about 90% of everything is chronic... I wasnt diagnosed with real trigeminal neuralgia as i never had that sharp strong excruciating pain, but i do have persistent burning pain for 9 months with occasional pain free days, and even recently i even the whole 9 days of being pain free. I am just not sure if its TMS or not as i keep thinking its teeth related, but noone knows how to help me. How does one know if its TMS?

@@revolverheart8735 I will tell you that you must decide that you are going to use a TMS approach to resolve your issues. Waiting for a mainstream medical doctor to fix this for you isn't working. Perhaps you could find a TMS doctor to give you a proper diagnosis. I will tell you this, the more you focus on the pain and search mainstream medicine for an answer, the more likely you may remain stuck. Decide that there is no other explanation other than TMS, pick a process and dive in and do the work. And if you want to see if there's a TMS doctor near you, go here: www.tmswiki.org/ppd/Find_a_TMS_Doctor_or_Therapist
