Fun fact about the 'white guys wearing their baseball hats backwards' joke. There was a dude in the audience that was being obnoxious throughout the entire show wearing his hat backwards, and Carlin adlibbed that bit essentially as a 'f**k you' to that audience member. If you watch/listen to it again you can hear him being obnoxious and yelling throughout, and can even hear him cursing out Carlin while he makes the joke at his expense. Probably the most legendary way any comedian has ever dealt with a heckler. It was indirect, he didn't give the guy direct attention, yet the entire audience knew who he was targeting, judging by the raucous cheering, and it was just a spiritual comedic moment. I get warm feelings every time I hear the joke.
Great comment! I first saw this special on a VHS copy just after it came out when I was 16 years old and I noticed that guy right away. At 42 years old I still want to punch him. 😄
The pheromones is not a dirty body. It’s just your scent when you are clean. It’s not sweaty smelliness. You almost don’t really smell it consciously. Super subtle. If you washed with soap that had no scent and didn’t apply any scented stuff to your body right after showering, that’s your natural scent.
Here's a tip for ya, bro... B.O. and pheromones are two entirely different things 😂 oh and I remember using one-hour photo development even as recently as 10-15 years ago.
true, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's part of every humans skin flora that actually can have benefits like protecting you from other more harmful bacteria.
I've heard that off stage Mr Carlin was one of the nicest guys you ever met. Kind and friendly and generous 😊 ☺. Must be he took out all his frustration on stage.
Great reaction! Hell yeah George needs to reincarnate into our time... He would have non-stop unlimited material, and we NEED another George Carlin in the world DESPERATELY right now!!
Boomers are the folks like me that were born 1946-1964. George was born in 1937 and later died in 2008. The world lost its sense of humor when we lost him...
@@clarkb1900 Have you seen the state of the world since Biden took office? That man can't remember his own name half the time. I guess the current state of things is a reflection of the 'well educated' who are being properly represented right now.
@@xejelah If you support Donald Trump... you really shouldn't condemn anyone else for cognitive failures. And if you're looking to blame someone for the state of the world, the former president would warrant far more of your scrutiny than the current one. Aaand- their comment's gone. Whaddayaknow. ;}
At the outset, getting film developed and printed often took a week or more to get back. Once they developed a machine that could develop and print film they could shorten the time to one hour. For big events you would often want to get the pictures developed and out to people before they left. For this it was perfect. Like today you would send someone a picture during the event you photographed, back then one-hour was as close to that as you could get.
The play on words being used by Carlin is conflating the rapid processing of photographic film with the technique of determining the winner of a race by snapping a picture at the instant the finish line was crossed, producing a "photo-finish" where you had to look at the picture to determine the actual winner.
She looks like a chocolate Easter egg with a pink ribbon wrapped around it, the beautiful thing is yall can laugh together and a couple that can laugh together stays together. Oh and you know there is caramel in the center of that chocolate Easter egg, please show us that people can stay together
You might want to read a book titled "The Peter Principle." It has been around for more than 50 years and it is timelessly valid. "In a hierarchy, people rise to their level of incompetence."
My first introduction to Carlin was his 1999 skit, "You Are All Diseased." Had me rolling on the floor, almost dying of laughter and I was 12 years old at the time!
I grew up listening to 90s and 2000s hard rock. I’m getting older now and hearing the same stuff over and over just got boring. I came across you’re reaction videos and I love them! You two have turned me onto different genre’s and now I’m watching you guys venture out into other areas besides music, I like it too! Conventional media is dead you guys are the future. Keep up the good work!
George Carlin audio only stuff from his early years (1965-1980). He did 20-30 comedy albums in those years! Every one was gold plated humor through and through! :)
George Carlin knew what was coming and tried to warn the masses through his comedy. He was a fantastic Social Commentator and saw through the B.S. Shoutout from Queensland, Australia.
I love watching younger people talk about things that were commonplace when I was a child. Their used to be little tiny buildings in strip malls like there are coffee places now but they were one hour photo huts and it would take 1 hour to develop your film. Great reaction
Id highly recommend "Rats and Squealers" by George Carlin. It's just a recording, as this was gonna be in a live show, however, he passed away before that happened.
You've got it right. Back in the day people had to wait 5 to 7 days for their pictures. Then they came out with one hour photo finishing and it was amazing. Cost a little more but you could see your pictures in an hour. No you see your pics on less than a second. Incredible.
For those who had the same issue about 1 hour photo: HISTORY ALERT! In the age BEFORE digital photographs, you had 2 main types of photos. Polaroid & 35mm film. Polaroid self developed in about a minute, while the 35mm had a better resolution (12MP equiv. or higher) which required a chemical process to develop the film to a negative, them transferred a permanent image to paper. 1 hour photo booths from Kodak were common. You would receive a pkg of your pics + the negatives. The process could be reversed to microfilm which was often used in libraries to store/archive copies of newspapers on something called a "microfiche".
Ahhh, microfiche, gave me so many migraines as a college student in the early 90s. Long live digitization and dark mode, the savior of modern researchers LOL
@@tokyo333 In WW2, GI letters from Europe were photographed (looked like a movie reel where each frame was a letter) and then shipped stateside where they were reprinted on a standard government letterhead & mailed to the recipient. They called it 'V-Mail'.
When pictures were taken using cameras with film inside that you had to get developed to see the pictures you took... you never knew if the pictures were good or not until you got the photos back from the store... congrats, you just made me feel old
I saw him in the early 70's at Loyola University...dirty words you can't say, hippie dippy weatherman, sister Mary Elephant, etc....they have become classics now but were new at the time. He was great.
yeah 01:17 He's right that's way before the digital Phone cam. It was commonly 35mm film. It used to take a couple of days to develop-e film so 1 hr back in the 90's. was WHOA! Damn you young people make me feel ancient
Love it! And yes- have your own opinion please- we all should! People need to go back to discuss and agree to disagree and go along chill not getting all offended about every little thing. I enjoy your reactions! Makes me smile
LOL! 1-hour photo finishing was huge in the 70's, as up till then, a roll of 35mm film could take at least 3 or 4 days, if not up to 2 weeks to get your pictures back. We have to note that digital photos wasn't even being thought about then as we were still using cathode ray tubes in televisions and thermal dot-matrix printers were brand new eliminating ink ribbons and print heads! :)
We live under the dictatorship of the capitalist class. Voting is irrelevant under this system. Politicians must conform to the interests of the capitalist class or they will simply raise prices, roll back or completely halt production, lay off workers, create product shortages and otherwise sabotage the economics until they get their way. Voting for the spokespeople for capitalist dictatorship simply signs your endorsement on the crimes of this system. Revolution is necessary. People in imperialist countries are no longer a social species, with imperialism now proxying for the natural, historic role of the community as providers for and protectors of the group. It stands to reason then that they are attracted to the smell of things/consumerism more than people's natural clean scent. As someone who is still a part of a social species, there's no better scent in the world than the natural scent of a woman. Be natural. Keep the face paint and stink/perfume to a minimum please ladies.
I had the honor of meeting this man in, of all places, an Exxon Gas Station/Mini Mart at the corner of Route 1 and S. Wood Avenue in Linden, NJ. A great guy.
Well 1 hour foto finish....that was like sorcery.... when I grew up that could take up normaly one to two weeks until you got your photos....boy do we were so exited to get them 🤗
You drop the football -- "Where was you on that one, dipsh-t!", talking to Jesus. "Thanks a lot, Jesus!". "Don't blame me, Jesus just didn't come through".
I remember when I first got introduced to George Carlin. He played the conductor on Thomas the tank engine. Was I in for a surprise when I got older and watched saw his stand-up. Same goes for Bob Saget
I remember that! Shining Time Station was amazing. I remember watching one of George Carlin’s stand ups when I was little. And my grandmother asked me who he was because he was cursing up a storm and I told her: “it’s okay it’s Mister Conductor”
One-Hour Photo was popular because normally in the past it took three or four days to develop your photos. It was quite an advance, though as you can see now, times have changed from even then.
Thanks for watching this comedic genius again!!! Love him and miss him so much, he'd have had a field day with TODAY'S society! Please watch more of his skits, I'd recommend: A modern man Driving Child worship Gulf War Extreme human behavior Rape Free floating hostility
Yeah, we had to send off our rolls of film and wait until they came back developed and then see the pictures. Later on came the 1-hr photo. Now everyone has a camera on their phones.
This was HILARIOUS 😆😆 I think the reactions from the two of you were just as funny as George Carlin here. Thank you for this. I needed it 😃 Edit: the part where the two of you talked about having your own opinions, I completely agree with you.
You guys didnt get it. Carlin literally said that you should wash yourself, instead of covering your pheromones up with colognes and deodorants. He wasnt sayin that you should walk around with BO. Jesus Christ…🤦🏻♂️
Everyone has their own opinion. You speak your mind freely. Don’t worry about other people say. They are getting mad for your opinion because it is different from theirs. Speak your mind.
I'm a 'Boomer' and find this bit about us funny as hell. We didn't all turn out bad... even though we were raised by the 'Silent Generation' (George's generation). Those that did turn out the way George portrays them can lay the blame at the feet of that 'Silent Majority/Generation'. Me? I'll take the blame for my part in how the 'Gen-X' crowd turned out. Weren't all 3 with their unique quirks though? :)
George was definitely right about social issues of the world. He would definitely hate social media as well as everyone filming with their cell phones. He was definitely a Mad Scientist and the thing that’s great about him is that he wouldn’t give a damn about this culture we live in today. He would still say the same thing and call people out. He would say “so you’re saying I can’t say that? Go f yourself with a few other choice words while saying whatever he wasn’t supposed to). I love it!
I worked at Saks and one of our personal shoppers had Johnny Depp as a client. My friend was from Paris and finally had to tell Johnny after he told him he lives in France that’s why he smells. My friend said “We still shower daily Johnny”.
OKAY, HERE YA GO GUYS! :) FREE FLOATING HOSTILITY, FLYING ON THE AIRLINES, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, A PLACE FOR MY STUFF ( DONE AT EVERY SHOW ) , AND ONE YOU SHOULD WATCH THAT HE DID AT 68 YEARS OF AGE, INSANE ( MODERN MAN ) TAKE CARE T AND TASHA
T had it right regarding the pictures. 1 hr development. Damn i miss George. He would have so much to say about the last 10 years for sure. enough for 3 george carlin lifetimes.
My first exposure was is bit on STUFF. Too funny. I had an old friend who actually know George Carlin. From way back when he was doing the hippy dippy weatherman bit.
Always never be afraid of expressing your own opinions! Discuss the merits with those who agree and disagree and try and get to why the opinions were shaped that way. Tough to do as some might get offended by those who think differently but as George would say “Fuck them if they can’t take a joke”
It’s OK to have an opinion. What’s not OK is believing that your opinion, or all opinions are correct. That is not true. Opinions can be wrong, and often are. If you say something like, “well that’s my opinion,“ then you are being narrow minded and making a bad argument. The best philosophy is to do the best you can to make sure that your opinion aligns with facts and logic, and be open minded that you may be wrong if new information comes along that shows your opinion to be incorrect. That is what intellectual honesty is.
Walgreens did one hour photofinishing. I'm only thirty, but i know that old school disposable cameras relied on that so you could get your photos at the family cookout.
One hour photo finishing was when we actually had FILM cameras, where you would have to get the negatives developed, and prints made. No digital back then. just little reels of film.
Too funny! About the men wearing cologne... there's a difference between natural body odor (pheromones) and funk. Bathing is important! ;) Thanks for your reactions to this comedic genius!
I can't believe that there are generations of full-grown adults, on this earth now, that don't know what it was like having to wait anywhere from one hour to one week after taking pictures, in order to see how they turned out. Having to have someone else develop (print) them for you...and, paying them by the picture. Or, being limited to a max of 36 pictures (per film roll). I feel old...lol
George was brilliant.. have you read his book, Brain Droppings? I think there's an audio version voiced by his brother.. sounds so much like him it's eerie.
There's still photo finishing. You can take your digital camera or your cell phone to Walgreens and they'll download your pictures and make prints for you .
While attending concerts or shows these days, all I could see around me were cell phones being held up to watch/record. VERY VERY different from concerts of times past.
back in the day it tooks much longer time to develop film, so the thing about "One Hour Photo" is some new technology introduced hence you only need to wait for an hour to develop the film.
