Y'all had me in tears with You are My Sunshine! My dad was in the army during WW II. He would write letters to my mom, telling her she was his sunshine! The song what's their favorite song! My mother had pancreatic cancer. We had a family get together, a live celebration if you will! She had everybody sing You are My Sunshine! Then we wheel her down to the river, in her wheelchair. On the way back there was this hibiscus tree, with these big beautiful white flowers. We picked one and put it behind her ear. She died three days later! So this song has a real special place in my heart! And yes will bring tears to the 65-year-old Man's eyes every time he hears it! Y'all stay safe!

In 2009 my daughter, our only child, got a college scholarship for cross country in Aberdeen South Dakota. We live in Spokane. Dropping her off and driving away made us cry for hundreds of miles. Brings a tear to my eye as I type this. We were not even there for her 18th birthday. Tough tough tough. Her only boyfriend, since they were 15, also got a scholarship there. Both of them never dated anyone else. This year they celebrate 10 years of marriage and moved firm North Carolina back to Spokane with our 3&6 year old grand children. All worked out. Romans 8:28

I do not know how many people may know the importance of raising children keeping God in their midst. We are their eyes when they can not see and they need us as their earthly role models reflecting the Love of Jesus. I am a mom of 2 wonderful young adults, who are very different in their personalities. Nevertheless, we trust as parents that our prayers are powerful in any situation, so we could let them go as long as they wish to do so (even it would make us sad) but HOME is where they can always come back to and I know that they are equipped enough to trust in the Holy Spirit that connects us no matter where we are.Turning 18 does not mean children are adults, it is just a number. We need each other and a community like a church family who can always be supportive in any situation. You just confirmed the words dropped into my heart while watching this video ..."And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose..." ❤ Love and 🙌Blessings!

As parents I think one of the hardest things in life is raising your children to be good adults and then allowing them to be those adults. At 68 yrs old I now see the other side of it. I see my sons who have young children trying to figure out how to raise them. My son asked me "Mom how did you guys do it? How did you allow us to do the things we did without freaking out?" I told him, we freaked out, we prayed, we checked up on you, we did all of that, we just didn't let you know it. I think we are getting "back to family" in the world, we surely need to. So glad you built the apartment, it is a great option for your kids.

My son graduated when he was 17. He left home and wound up living 300 miles away. He said it was time for him to make his mark on the world! I cried for weeks in his bedroom. Worried silly if he was ok and safe. He never came back to live, and yes, he made his mark on the world. He's become a rockstar and traveling the world. He's 50 now and loving every moment in life. Nivea is only in the next house near you. Cherish the time... before she flies away. Blessings to all of you. Jeremy you are so cute when your emotional about your kids.

My wise and insightful 18 year old daughter once said to us when we were struggling with what our role now was that we needed to trust that we did a good job raising her and now needed to transition from being the enforcer to the influencer. I thought that hit the nail on the head. It gave her some freedom but we still had input.

Happy birthday to all three of you!!!!! Our three children are 25,23,21. We homeschooled them through 8th grade and raised them to be independent, to succeed, to fly the nest. Two are out of the house and M3 is entering her senior year of college. Watching them do what God designed them to do, watching them put into practice all we taught them, and watching them put faith into action drowns out the sad emotions and allows an entire new joy to flood in. You will always be a family of 6, plus the future spouses, and your children will still seek out youy advice and your hugs because that is the type of family you are. ❤

Happy birthday all. What an exciting transition. My only child flew the nest at 17 for a university out of state. He thought it would be easy on his own but he soon realized how much mom and dad did for him. It was touching to see how grateful he was for all we did for him. He did figure it out eventually thank goodness. I love that you are helping your kid’s transition to adulthood at a kinder pace. My son is now 25 and a third year medical student. Every year with my boy gets better and better. Parenthood is the most rewarding journey ❤

The end has me in tears because that was the song I sang to my baby girl who is now 29 about to be 30. She moved off north to Minnesota from our home state of Texas. It was so hard when she left home because all you want is to protect them from all the evil in the world but you have to have faith in the way you taught them! I’m thankful I do get to see her next week. It’s such a bitter sweet moment letting go of your baby into adulthood but you did a wonderful job raising her and she will always be your baby girl! Because we are friends now instead of being "parents" but they still call us to ask for our advice because they value our life experiences! Time passes so fast. Our son is now 26. He moved out onto his own the summer after turning 18. Granted he is living on the same property as our family, but we moved 1,500 miles away to the PNW so its not like we can just run over to help when he needs it. The hardest part for me has been letting him make his own mistakes and learn how to fix them now instead of running to help him fix them. Cherish every day you can when they are young and don't miss ballgames (or whatever) because of work. They grow up too fast. Happy Birthday!!!

The worst part of it all to me is that time seems to move even _faster_ with each passing year. Realizing our eldest is now 36 is like this temporal shock, and reminding myself that as full adults, the kids *need* to make their own decisions and navigate their own lives is a far more difficult thing than I ever imagined. But I forever keep finding new appreciation and gratitude for my _own_ parents. My mom laughed her butt off when I mentioned this, and she said, "Way back when you were a teen I told you this would happen. It's finally time for me to say, "I told you so!!!" 😋

Welcome to the Third Stage of Adulthood! It's frankly the best, despite the adjustment needed. It comes with learning to relate to your child on a peer-to-peer basis, watching the final maturation of those young adults as the truly come into their own, and ... grandchildren! I understand the nostalgia, but just keep looking forward and loving them and always being there for them. That's because the Third Stage of Adulthood is an addition to the Second Stage of Parenthood, it is not something new as much as it is an extension and improvement on the stage before. You are going to LOVE IT!

Good afternoon family from the South African. Butt on chair, coffee in hand. I made it. I have two grown son's and from when they started to go out on their own, I had to stamp on my tongue not to say anything if they did not ask my opinion. It is very, very hard but over time you settle in and go with the flow/ Always remember that you created through the years the firm foundation of the right values for her and although she will make mistakes, she will always think back on things you said and the foundation of her up bringing. But man!!!!! it is very difficult to shut up and let them learn through their mistakes. My boy's are nearing their 50's and still I need to walk in a circle and talk me out of saying anything. Well happy birthday to you three. May the year ahead be very very blessed for you three in particular and the whole family also. The 15th will be my turn to mature like a good red wine. Nope to old for birthdays these days. See you next Saturday.

If you think you’re struggling with the oldest of 4 children becoming an adult, I grieved for over a year when our only child (a miracle baby after 2 years of failed infertility & inability to have more) left for college last year. He’s getting ready to go back. For 2 years before I even got pregnant (I had one procedure left covered by insurance, had to take a month off. Just prayed the Lord would either Bless us or tell me what my path was supposed to be. I was pregnant 2 weeks later)my life revolved him. When he was getting ready to leave, I said “we did the best we could to make you the man you are. You’ve always made us proud. You’re the only “only child” I know who isn’t spoiled & selfish. Just spoiled & generous. I hope all your childhood memories are amazing. That was my goal.” I had a horrible childhood, scarred me for life. I stopped that cycle. He is the result. Went to college on a cross country & track scholarship, gets good grades, has never given us trouble. Amazing young man. That’s all we can do as parents.

My heart is hurting so bad, but proud of him. I started saving for his university education after he was born, so he won't need student loans. He is going away to a different city and I know it is the start of only seeing him 3-4 times a year. Having a full circle moment, this is what I did when I turned 18. This is the hardest part of life for us as a parent! When our only son graduated from College he didn’t come back home he bought a house! We were supper happy but very sad! He’s an amazing young man with a wife and two beautiful daughters and he lives six blocks from us! Thank you LORD for who he is! You all will be ok! Blessings!

Speechless!! You hit the nail on the head! You have a grown man here shedding tears right along with you! Celebrate every moment! My son is 37 and I'm wondering where the time has gone. I'm digging my heals in trying to stop how fast it's going but we're having lots of fun along the way! My father in law turned 91! He's definitely melancholy about it. Just remember that it's a gift from God to have all these years and be healthy along the way. Totally get where you are emotionally. You guys are such good people and GREAT parents. Our faith tells us that there's such much more to look forward to. This is our temporary home but isn't it beautiful!! Enjoy the ride................ P.S. Jeremy, you look damn good for 67!!!!😉👍

I find that a lot of times as parents, especially with being in tune with what your children need, can be overthinking and disabling. When you give them too much, they struggle with confidence to make it out on their own. I had a lot of confidence from both my parents. At 19, I left and joined the USA, bought my 1st new car, financed it 6 months later, and drove my new car across the country. I thrived and adapted to change well. The military taught me a good work ethic and a career I never could have imagined myself in, but it was a phenomenal career based on my highest test scores. Personal growth is everything to keep up with the leadership ladder. Then, with my own three children, there was an 11-year difference from the oldest to the youngest. I struggled with their social and emotional needs when it became a 1 parent household. It took my daughter, the oldest, over 5 years after high school, to find a full-time job. Her oldest brother took even longer. He wasn't able to find work till age 26; my 21-year-old just started working. I have a belief that as hard as it seems to be, reality doesn't sink in until you have hit rock bottom before your mind is willing to adapt and change everyone must face themselves in the mirror to accept accountability for their well-being god does not give you anything you can't handle on your own as long as he is in your heart. The Granny unit upstairs is not a good idea for the aging elderly parents. So here I am at 65 with 2 adult sons in the home still; God has great plans for them. The youngest is more motivated than the older brother, but then I love it when my children learn from setting an example for each other and how they do things. It worked well when my daughter struggled to take the driving test and pass it to get her license. Her younger brother passed it 1st try and was a licensed driver before her. It woke her up to do the same. LOL. Now, the youngest is doing the same thing to his oldest brother when it comes to self-sufficiency for motivation to be out your own. He doesn't see it coming, and he will. LOL❤❤❤❤❤🕊🕊✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Every loving parent feels the same when their children depart. Jeremy, the tears from a loving father are especially moving. Your babies were born with so much hair! I had 4 sons. The oldest is now 51, the youngest 45. And I still look back on those tender childhood years as being the happiest of my life. This is life’s greatest joy, having children and loving them with your whole heart.

Let me tell you...when that last child leaves...whew. I have 4 (3 girls and baby boy.) I have 3 in college and my oldest girl in the Navy. Nothing compares to when the last one leaves you. Last year our baby boy went off to college and has a job in the summers that is located on the other side of the country. He's home for a few days to unpack from college and re-pack for work. Then at the end of summer, home for a few days to pack for college again. The drive home from dropping him off at college for his freshman year, I was hit with the realization that I would really only see him for Christmas break and Spring Break. This also brought with it the realization that I now have more years behind me, than I do in front of me. That's a tough pill to swallow. I'm super proud of all my kids.. They've all turned out to be amazing people, who are doing great things, and I know when my time comes, I can leave this earth knowing I did good, and they will be fine, but it doesn't make it hurt any less.

She's not grown up..even if she's 18..She's living at home ..no college means she'll be an idaho, small town girl ...probably marry an Idaho farm boy who also stayed home.. Our youngest went to college in Florence, Italy , and became a world citizen... traveled the whole world, (every continent except Antarctica), returned home, married, and settled down, but his years of traveling and learning abroad shaped his life..there are things one must do as a young person...while they're unfettered, brave and open to new people, new experiences ... Happy birthday to your birthday gang❤

I’m crying with you. My daughters are 12 months two weeks apart. Our first daughter graduated high school the same year I graduated college from Nursing. The next year our youngest graduated high school and the month prior we found out my sweet husband had a Giloblastoma!! In the next five years we fought the battle of cancer and our children leaping into adulthood. At the end of his battle I felt like I had lost them all!! My oldest lived in Hawaii going to college and the other in Boston as I rattled around an empty house that no longer felt like a home but a tomb of the past. It’s been quite a journey of learning and healing for all of us. Currently, my oldest and her husband and my only grandchild live with me in our family home while they are building theirs! Again the house has become our home! Every once in a while I catch my 13 month old grandchild whispering and pointing and laughing as he having a fun conversation with someone then he’ll wave by! I finally was able to videotape it and sent it to my youngest daughter. She called me crying and said Mom do you think he’s playing with Dad? I do think that. It eases my heart to think this. As much as it was difficult, that period of time it was the most beautiful. Out of tragedy and transition I would only trade one outcome…his passing. But, I don’t think if it all wouldn’t have occurred all at the same time our appreciation and insight would have been the same or the moments so beautiful!!!! Life is definitely a journey!

As a mom of 5, its hard to believe that my oldest son, who is 26, is a dad of my 2 yr old grandson. My daughter, 24, is getting married in three weeks, my middle son and next to the youngest, 22, and 20, are moving out into their own home, and my youngest, just graduated high school. All of them were raised to be independent of us, knowing how to care for themselves at a very early age. Its hard for me to believe that life moves so quickly, but it does. Looking at how you all have raised your children with morals and values that show respect and good teaching, momma and dad, youve done a fantastic job. Keep doing that!
