Her father was no 2 elder among 4 brothers. Younger brothers want to divide paternal land among all brothers in 4 pieces. He is opposed to division of land..( metaphor about partition of india into india and pakistan on religious lines while all religions lived like brothers before 1947, british knew that india was topmost biggest economy in whole world before colonization and if not divided it will become same topper again so they divided religious unity and ruled and then divided before leaving ) . He became mentally upset with shock of division of his united farmland and became scarecrow like catotonic f8gure to save farms...became mental patient. Its a metaphor that people who opposed partition of country were taken as mental patients and not listened to seriously as sane people deserve to be listened to... ( i now think you want translation of intro before start of real story... that is actually a big writer khushwant singh telling about sadat hasan manto,his life and writings )
