DELTARUNE already has a conflict with the player and Kris. Imagine if something terrible happens when you collect all the shadow crystals. What are you supposed to say then? "Sorry Kris, sorry I destroyed your life and world. I just couldn't help myself. I had to collect them all. I had to see the truth."
IT WILL BE YOURR FAULTTTTT. AHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHH.

(Toby's full message- "Part of this game's charm is the mystery of how many options or secrets there are. If you are reading this, please don't post this message or this information anywhere. Or doing secrets will become pointless. By the way, most of the seemingly unused text/files are used. If you can find the in-game context for an asset, you can show it off. But if you can't, it probably means you haven't looked hard enough. Anything truly unused I'll probably post myself, later. Living in a world like this, where people can simply cheat out the answers from the code... your impatience has REALLY damaged you, hasn't it?" Even I'm guilty of this a little, but I at least try to strive for the in-game context bit for the most part. Will the community suffer for its sins though? The fact that doing the weird route seams to force a fight with the secret boss and end up to force us get a shadow crystal might be saying something

In the end, our ultimate goal as the player should be to create a new future with Gaster, or if not possible, to allow him to finally rest. Then truly, we can rest our own souls, as there would be nothing else left.

I've heard it be theorized (based on something Seam said i Think?) that fighting Jevil is a matter of when, not if, and maybe if you don't fight him the first time you'll have to do it later down the line. Maybe waiting will result in a better end?

Ooo wait, that's actually a neat idea. Since the secret bosses have so far given helpful gear, like weapons or armor stronger than the chapter they're obtained in and with special effects to boot, the real challenge could be to NOT fight the bosses
@PlayerCarter.
@PlayerCarter. 6 месяцев назад
Certainly think there's going to be some way Deltarune catches the player for completionism beyond simply not fighting. Though given how unforeseeable that would be especially with chapter based releases, I'm also sure it would be subverted in the actual conclusion to Deltarune's story.

well if one thing is for certain, Deltarune and Undertale seam very, very, interesting with all these theories.

I meam for now getting both shadow crystals in the currently existing chapters is really easy and most people ontained them on their own in their first run
@GasterExplains
@GasterExplains 6 месяцев назад
(Bro, who the hell are you speaking for? When the game first came out, there were plenty people who didn't even know about the Jevil fight, and had to go back to do it. Of course, if someone were to play it for the first time right now they'd probably know from all the coverage. But Jevil also had his entire stuff hidden behind puzzles and specific areas that not everyone found easy, including myself. And I still know people to this day who haven't booted the game back up and done that fight. "Most people on their first run" and "really easy" are certainly some massive generalizations to make, when you're most likely just talking about yourself. Reading this reminds me of those annoying people who are just like "Erm, you didn't beat that boss on your first try? Erm, ackshually, that boss is super easy! If you struggle at all, you're just bad at the game" on gaming forums. Literally hate people who say stuff like that.)

@@GasterExplains sorry, I just meant that for now defeating the secret bosses does not at all mean that you looked up the answer online, it's an optional part of the game that's absolutely possible to find on your own, this isn't some PT type of situation where the solution is so ridiculous that nobody can find it on their own, so if the next bosses are the same level of difficulty, whatever they unlock can't be the "you looked it up didn't you" ending, and if they do become that much harder then defeating the first two would feel kinda pointless Technically even the snowgrave was found by one guy completely blind, so even that can't be considered impossible to find without looking at the game files Your theory is cool but it would require deltarune to break a fundamental law of game design that for now it very clearly isn't breaking
@GasterExplains
@GasterExplains 6 месяцев назад
@@diamondmemer9754 (Seems we both misunderstood each other then. But my theory wasn't ever intended to be a "You looked it up, didn't you" thing ever. The community has already looked into the code for past secrets. The theory is that the game functions perfectly fine even if you remove the secret bosses. A world where you don't exist and everything runs fine without you to put it in goner kid terms. Just because you don't cheat the answers for the secrets doesn't mean you weren't intently looking for them. All the current shadow crystals are obtained by looking a little deeper than you ever had to do in the first place. The theory is "Because the community is so intent on SEARCHING for secrets--which occasionally leads to cheating, although not always--that it will cause a different ending.)

@@diamondmemer9754 (Undertale already builds upon and breaks the gaming norm of rpgs since you're not supposed to kill anything. You can complete the game without causing pain to others, and you don't have to finish everything or "100%" the game because you can get the best ending in the game without that. But now that we've posted that stuff online, the stuff that Toby said not to. Who's to say we that SHOULD be collecting those shadow crystals. Also, did the Snowgrave person really think nothing bad would happen once the dialog options started getting morally messed up? The route gives plenty of options to abort. At some point, I feel that it's hard to argue that it doesn't start to becoming searching for secrets.)

@@GasterExplains yes, but about the shadow crystals I don't see how that's a bad thing Looking for secrets and being rewarded with a secret boss sounds pretty standard, if it really didn't matter in the end, the message would just be "it's the journey that matters, if you only give worth to the things that matter in the end then nothing has value" And yes, punishment in moral terms for the bad route makes sense, but it won't have to do with looking for secrets Honestly I almost found the snowgrave route on my first run, and reset after freezing the first enemy because I wanted the pacifist run, but the enemy remaining frozen in the overworld clearly indicated that the action would have had consequences eventually

WARNING: mucho texto honestly, i don't think deltarune should go into this path. one thing i never liked about genocide in undertale is that it laughs in your face about something that for most people is completely pointless (killing pixels on a screen), it's very effective story-wise but outside from it it's just telling you you're an asshole for playing a game in a completely normal and acceptable way (completionism). if deltarune will do the same with "keeping secrets", then not only will it have the same problems but it will probably be worse because it's DIRECTLY making fun of people that didn't do absolutely anything wrong by playing a game the completionist way. i think toby made that message as just a warning to not tell everybody every secret in the game the first time they play it (basically don't spoil the game for everybody), which is sadly something people did not and still don't understand to this day
@GasterExplains
@GasterExplains 6 месяцев назад
(I can't say I really agree with you on the Undertale Genocide part tbh. I'm convinced that having the 100% game completion mindset for at least a game like UNDERTALE has to have you be a little bit of an asshole. I say this as someone who's done it. But I've known plenty of people who refuse to even touch the Genocide route, so clearly, people care about it. Truth is, Undertale is a game where you define yourself on what is complete. And for some people, that tends to be True Pacifist and calling it a day. Although others will throw in Genocide in the mix. This is furthered by when Toby added Undertale to the Xbox gamestore, he was forced to make achievements for the game. But he made them all really stupid stuff. There is no achievement for completing Genocide or anything much else, because it isn't encouraged. If you play the game like an asshole, then you must accept you have been one. Undertale advertises itself as an entire whole as a game where "You don't have to kill anybody." So if you genuinely believe you can't complete the game without killing everybody, Toby's message is thrown aside. So yeah, we deserve to be laughed at it. The game deserves to remember. The POINT is to CARE. Therefore, the game is gonna do that. Now that being said, I do like lore and doing all things humanly possible, so yeah, I'm gonna kill everyone. But I've also accepted the game is going to laugh at me when I do that. Which, I have no complaints too. I already accepted it's part of the whole gig when you do it. We don't get to be above consequences.)
@komadino
@komadino 6 месяцев назад
@@GasterExplains i myself did play undertale to its fullest, but i usually don't play any game with a completionist mindset (unless it's strictly required to), my concern is for the people who just want to play the game that way. i feel like it's completely valid even if i don't do it. the last part of your comment pretty much sums up how i feel about playing the genocide route, of course i care for the game (it wouldn't be one of my favs if i didn't), of course it hurts me to kill toriel or see sans "go to grillby's" at the end of the route. but i also understand and accept the consequences behind it. i think we may have a point in common here
