For me personally, Season 6 was the last update that suited the season structure. It simply doesn't work now, there has to be a change to the update cadence. Monthly pirate emporium updates can't sustain the game for 3-4 months. Each main update drop has to come with activities that will keep us entertained between update drops, instead of 1 day gameplay that can be completed quickly, only for paid cosmetics to keep us with the game. Seasons should feel like ... well a season, they should feel like significant eras in the Sea of Thieves. Sorry for the rant, it could very well just be me personally.
Exactly. Season 6 also dropped content during all the season, the seaforts came first, the adventures were going on, and the legend of veil came at last. Really a season to enjoy.
That would have been a cool idea. I honestly dont mind some of the new curses being in the shop or plunder pass. It gives incentive to support sea of thieves development and its not like we arent gonna get free curses you can earn by doing quest and stuff.
I caught every single fish, got the legendary hunter of the Sea of thieves, title, and then they want me to pay five dollars to get the curse that I rightfully deserve. Safe to say I don’t think I’m going to spend money on this game ever again.
Yeah it's pretty bad and certainly not what I want to see from such a good game. The pirate emporium by itself is a good thing so rare makes money while we get free updates and content, but curses should stay completely out of paid territory. Not only that but imagine how much cooler the stone curse could've been if you unlocked it by interacting with the story, voyages, or environment like the other curses.
My god the sea of thieves community are just pansies. Don't buy it if you don't like, its simple. You crying like a child won't change rares decision to make money 😂
Normally, I'm not really against any form of paid cosmetic content. I'm fine with those willing to pay extra keeping the game running for the rest of us, so long as it didn't give an advantage. Though it is concerning when your only progression in the game is also cosmetic. The more they push new cosmetics into the emporium, the more it makes me question if there will be cosmetics worth grinding for.
It’d be fine if the game was fully free to play, but there are many who paid full price for base game. They make more than enough with cosmetics, so this is just corporate greed at this point.
Theirs enough stuff you can earn in the game, they can put stuff in the shop at this point.. I guarantee most of the people saying that they shouldn’t add stuff into the shop haven’t even grinded for all the cosmetics you can earn in game. Or they’re just broke🤷♂️ this game has the best micro transactions of any game. Being able to buy the exact amount of ancient coins you want/need. If you can’t afford 6 dollars for some ancient coins that’s just sad😂 Edit, I copped the storm curse and it goes so hard defs worth the 7 peanuts lmao
@@shanekirkpatrick9941 The issue isn't with having enough/not having enough money. The issue is with maintaining goals for the playerbase. Having goals to shoot for is a large part of why people play video games. Many players enjoy the gameplay loop well enough, but it does eventually feel bad when you're doing the same goals with no reward at the end. And again, I'm not saying having paid content is a bad thing. It's how microsoft justifies keeping the servers up so far past launch. The issue comes when the primary reward for playing (cosmetics), get pushed more and more out of the earnable category. And instead get shifted into the option of paying to instantly obtain. It's a balance that's tricky to maintain. And the more time goes on, the more that balance is being weighted towards the emporium. The emporium is seeing a couple dozen items added to it each month or so, meanwhile earnable cosmetics are seeing maybe 10 new items per season, the majority of which are recolors. And now curses, previously a cosmetic exclusive to in-game challenges, have been added to the list of cosmetics they're willing to crank out for the emporium.
@@AShinyRay although I don’t remember them directly saying the shots are now 45 each, they said that a double shot will now do 90 damage. 90/2 = 45. Also, seaofthieves.wiki.gg/wiki/Double_Barrel_Pistol
I still think the game has a long life ahead of it but I’m also curious how much Microsoft pushes rare. I’m sure it’s mainly about the pirate emporium shop
Why was the new gold hoarders boots put into the outpost shop and not the faction shop? Also I was given the beardless dark warsmith tor free after already owning the default.
Why even give the sword to Tasha if they were just going to have it taken away like that? Surely they could've just had it stolen from the Pirate Lord himself and left Tasha as she was until they get back to whatever the Bretheren is doing?
At this point, it's pretty obvious the whole Tasha arc was just an excuse to get the sword out in the open so the Reapers could steal it so that Flameheart could use it to manifest the Burning Blade ship from his memories.
@@oye6124 Exactly. Could it be considered a little too easy for the Reapers to steal it? Probably. Do I care? Nah, not really. It's a cartoon at the end of the day. There's gonna be some plot conveniences here and there. And as long as it allows the story to go where it needs to, I'm all for it.
I like how they want you to pay for the storm strike curse and won't show you a preview of what it looks like on your character. I bet it's completely lackluster in comparison to the sunken sorrows curse.
@@sages101 sign up for the insider build. That version of the game gives you like a million ancient coins. I always use it to pov test any cosmetics that grab my attention in the emporium
@@sages101 just sign up for the insider build. You get an absurd amount of ancient coins; I always use the insider to pov test any cosmetic from the emporium that grabs my attention
New player here but i wish previews were a thing forreal. I spent ancient coins on so many sails that just didnt look good on my actual ship. Time to just buy a set😂
The Double barrel should: 1. Click to fire while aiming 2. Charge shot should shoot through multiple enemies like a sword lunge And then it’d be a cool weapon.
I don't know why everyone's convinced that the sword is gonna play a part in Flameheart's resurrection. He's *been* back since the conclusion of the "Return of the Damned" event, as far as the story is concerned anyway. He's been here, just offscreen. The Burning Blade sword is going to be used to manifest the Burning Blade ship.
That is technically the case from the perspective of the story. He's been back this whole time since the conclusion of the "Return of the Damned" event, just offscreen. The sword is gonna be used to manifest the Burning Blade ship.
Since adventures stopped, no story in game has been going for me. After that bad excuse of a red sword, now Tasha is magically cured of the worst curse that could befall a pirate in the Sea of Thieves?
Adventures probably would've given it a better ending, but those got cancelled and they had to slap something together last minute. Because that's what this whole thing feels like. Slapped together.
Was disappointed you can't prime the DP to fire both barrels before boarding, even if it immediately fires on climbing the ladder it'd be a nice surprise for people ladder guarding. Could even auto fire if you release the ladder to bait out a shot so you can fire back and make them potentially retreat to heal.
I always kinda hated the red colors on the Warsmith, we have so many red-gold-black colored outfits weapons and the like, but very few darker silvers and blues. It may be the only skin i may actually buy all the stuff as its close to one of my favorite color combos.
I wonder why they don't add more tall tales, especially when they have added events that are no longer accessible by any means like the hungering deep.
Because they want to force playes to play the updates. If they went back to tall tales people would just cone for those and then log off til the next tale.
Does the pistol change mean it does 45+45 now? Or 40+40+10 as a bonus for using the double shot? Because if it does 45 that means a regular pistol (55 dmg) and one double pistol shot now results in a two shot down, with a spare shot for error. Could be good to play at mid range.
That's right, all ships need to angle the sails to catch even the slightest wind now. It was like this in Brig and Galleon but now the Sloop needs to do it too
What I wish returns is when your loading in the banners that show up is changed back to images showing activities during the season and has a little description of what it is like the old days
the storm curse isnt so bad. I just bought it not that long ago. Doesnt look bad. I wish it was more visible cause it only makes a different when its around sunset. Otherwise you can barely tell you have it on
I got the previous plunder pass, not for the Stone Curse, not even really for the other cosmetics. I had earned an Xbox gift card and wanted the extra Ancient Coins, maybe Rare should poll the community on what they buy and why before assuming things will just make money lol. I'm patient enough [if I'm still playing] to wait for the Storm curse to come in like the Legend curse did.
Another thing to note is that they fixed a bug that made the monkey's Island tall tale unfinishable. So for players who haven't already gotten the commendations to complete monkey Island 100% that's a really good part of the update
All I want to know is why those gold hoarder boots aren’t in the gold hoarder shop lmao rare. Though, I shouldn’t expect a decent UI/UX from devs who think a 50+ page premium shop is good for business.
We know what the skeleton camps are for, they said in the 2024 trailer, you go and get the red orbs and return them to probably the order of souls or reapers
I gotta say that this feels even more bad than the last year sot had. For me the game feels just more lifeless the more rare does to it. I am happy with the the content that they announced, but leaving the lore behind like they do it now is just not the way. This years xbox showcase was ok, but if I imagine that they could have announced a big tall tale coming to the game, the little 1 min trailer feels cheap. I really hope that I am the only one that is feeling like this, because I love the game, but not like it is at the moment...
Paid curses are fine, makes those earned more valuable and cool. Also lets the more casual players get something cool without spending 40 hours on a grind.
And to all the other issues,I can still not invite friends to the guild from the Guild menu because "no friends to show" is still a thing. It annoyed me a lot to discover that it's still a thing.
It's sad to See that the Emporium Is getting better cosmetics every drop, while the Gold Shops only get some swords. And the way the Story Progresses Is very sad to See. Could the reapers Just Walk in and Grab it? Adventures weren't great because they were time Limited, but they were extremely good for bringing The Story foreward
I like the curse probably gonna use it the most but it wouldn’t have been hard to make it a commendation for getting struck by lightning so many times like they getting kinda greedy (btw I have all the curse except the gold ghost and Skelly)
Im was pissed after they announced the easier war chest numbers…Like Im happy its easier! But im pissed they announced it AFTER I Killed 1000 skeletons with knifes, shot a ship with 1000 scattershots, and had half way completed 250 sharks killed with double barrel flintlock 😭
I feel a missed opportunnity for a tall tale, maybe even the first tall tale where we aren't forced to support the pirate lord(matching the theme be a villain), imagine we had a tall tale where we sneaked into athena's hideout and stole the burning blade, it could've been so awesome and hype a lot the upcoming season, missed opportunity
It's sad to see Rare putting far more effort into Emporium Cosmetics than the actual storyline anymore. While I do feel it was sweet to have Tasha's curse finally being broken, the fact that the blade gets so easily stolen feels like such a slap to the face when I think we could all see it from miles away with it just.. y'know, being there. I just.. don't get the direction the game is going anymore, SoT is a fantastic game and I do still get some fun from playing it, however the effort put in by Rare has been slowly fading overtime and it downright sucks to see. I know this is likely more Microsoft's fault with Rare taking the brunt of the criticism as you said, but it just sucks that they aren't at least trying to maintain a proper balance between keeping the game fun and engaging while trying to pit pocket our wallets for pixels, especially when both work in tandem with one another. If Rare put more towards keeping people engaged in the game, then in turn the players are more likely to spend money on the game, but unfortunately Microsoft doesn't understand this, yet they wonder why their IP's aren't making them more money.
What i hate about the way they doing seasons rn is that the last 2 or 3 seasons have mainly been quality of life improvements rather than actuly new contnet. sure we got the new weapons this season but i still ended up just doing forts to level up my battle pass and as nice as guilds was before again it added nothing actuly new other than another thing to grind. i really hate as well how all the content for the entire season is more or less out on the first day like we get nothing not even the adventures anymore for the gap between finishing the plunder pass and the next season. im against drip feeds in games like this but we need something more than just 1 big content drop every 3 months and then nothing till the next one.
Really hope that they change either how you EARN ancient emporium coins, or they make it so every new curse isnt payed for. No one wants payed for curses and I hope we can branch together enough to get that into Rares head.
About a few hours ago I did all tall tales of monkey island for the first time, and in the last we fight with that fat skelly captain to get that powerful sword, and now it's nothing? It's just lazy story writing😢 but hope to see something nice in this.
Funny how ancient spire has now had the orb AND sword stolen from there. Interesting point that it may not be rare making these ass decisions with the emporium and it's Microsoft to blame. I feel transparency on rares part about this MIGHT help stave off some of the playerbase ire instead of just telling us to deal with it or even worse trying to justify it. 😉
They must be SO down bad for money. Gold shops have been so ass for literally years. Every now and then you get ONE not bad cosmetic that is also actually connected to a grind, though most of those are just recolors as well... and again, most of these aren't new and have been in the gamefiles for years. db pistol is still really really bad and normal pistol is just infinitely better lmao. there isn't really anything to do for old players anymore, i literally only play hg camp because making naval players mad while driving them out/sinking them with fire is funny as shit + i hop on tdms from time to time. I REALLY hope they're saving some good shit for season 13. I feel like there's some mad potential for cosmetics and the flameheart ship COULD lead to some cool server fights, though the hype would die down quickly. I just hope they do something for hourglass, 2v2 or ffa would be sick as hell and could give guilds more use (i'd imagine you could fight a ffa with people in your guild or queue up against other guilds with another allied ship from your own guild). This game has just been treating older, way more experienced players like shit and it feels like rare really only cares about money nowadays.
Honestly this is the first time i seriously considering not returning to the game. After weeks of looking for the horn , that they removed with no notice, im pretty done.
I love how the owner goes through here and hearts every negative comment about it, it doesn’t matter if a curse can be bought, we know that you can buy it so if you see someone trying to flex it just say you swiped daddy’s credit card, that’s literally like saying being able to buy any cosmetic is a problem because you used money, I don’t get the point of it. With your logic there shouldn’t be a pirate emporium in the first place because you didn’t spend 20+ hours working for the black plain jacket that cost you 3million gold after the hard work
I have done the Commendations, so i know the changes. - Kills with the Double Barrel & Knife are 150 instead of 1000. - Shark & Gunpowder kills is 35 instead of 250. - ScatterShots is 100 on each ship instead 1000 / on Megs its 35 instead of 500. - Bonecallers on skeleton ships is 100 instead of 250. - Wind Horns sold is 100 instead of 250. - Carried Loot using the harpoon is 100 instead of 500. Hope this helps, here's hoping season 13 will bring the game back up.❤️🔥
I'm only missing the HoFWs (got all the others before the changes). Where are you finding them all? I feel like I have grinded getting them forever and only have 5 to show for it haha.
@@TheJeffestJeffLot of sailing, just looped the map, shrines only, and drop someone off to search, repeat until completed. Not necessarily fun, but gets the job done.
to me curses have always been held at this pedestal that marked your experience. they're few and far between in the game, but now we have 2 paid curses back to back. i dont hate it, but i just really dont want this to become a trend and curses lose their value as status symbols. but hey, thats just me ! maybe im complaining because i cant afford to buy a new curse every month just to fulfil my dream of having all of the curses haha
Look. Its still a noteworthy cosmetic to have if you own a curse that required time and skill to gain it. You can easily tell which curses are paid for and which curses required grinding. It really isnt a big deal plus this lets new players who are getting into the game own a curse and feel cool about their pirate while supporting rare dev team so that we can have more exciting updates in the future.
@@crunchberries6328 i get that! definitely the more "realistic approach", but im afraid this will lead to non-emporium cosmetics and curses dwindling out in favour of emporium stuff. unsure how much of this is because of microsoft to begin with
Sea of thieves has not been the same since the days of flame heart, the reapers, the fire nado days, SOT lost me with the jack sparrow and overpowered creatures, i miss the days when i would play solo i would loot islands, shipwrecks, collect supplies, fish, hunt, feel like a real pirate, hanging out in smugglers bay waiting for a friend to go online so we could go find a ship to sink.... the good ole days..... As a new ps5 player I really want them to add the skeleton pets to the store again. Everything is new right now so Im not burnt out of the content yet but I hope we will have something cool like new world events or sea monsters.
I have been playing since the day the game came out. I never wanted a curse before in this game. I never felt like they looked right on my pirate. But that storm curse, I might actually be making a purchase in the emporium.
The ships weren't meant to be balanced. If that were true, it wouldn't have been this long for a single change to the ships. This is nothing but actual lazy developers at Rare. The whole company doesn't know a day of hard work in their lives. They are pushing recolors and things are confirmed their doing, because they've been doing it for years. The reason is because they realized they can't get away with not making content or money in a game as a service or they will be rightfully fired. Good thing Microsoft isn't going to sit around and allow them to provide a bad service, that's a W for Microsoft and the gamers. These lazy devs can't be sitting around doing nothing for months and getting paid. Good thing they didn't fix the game crashing bugs in the patch notes.
tbh - Sea of thieves is close to loosing me entirely. This season I didnt played and was hyped on the release of flameheart. After the trailer on the Xbox event Im not excited anymore because it didnt fit the game... The trailer for season 13 was just... weird. No fitting music, no cool story like they had before. Why? Why is every developer going to shits... Well, waiting the 13 drop and then, if its cool introduced will get back to the game, if not, bye...
I think they f***** up making the burning blade so powerful. Basically giving flameheart a free win by giving him a weapon that apparently has no equal and can even Force the pirate Lord and US pirates to our knees in subjugation
Eh... Worry not. They'll find a way to compensate by giving Athena and the Pirate Lord something to fight back in return. I foresee by season 15, something related to the Ancients...
Funny you say that... They made a tweet a while after MI tale 3. It basically said this about the sword "It isn't known if it still has the power to cloud the minds of others..." So don't worry, they retconned it's power.
Alright short version, double barrel pistol has been buffed, trash lore that doesn't matter rn was added, ship speed is different, and once again the emporium is scamming players, I think that's everything.
This has nothing to do with the video. I just had to share it with you guys. I'm helping out a couple of noobs while I was downstairs repairing the ship, they decided they were going to follow the boss of the fleet. We got hit by about six kegs capsized and sunk within seconds
I am new to Sea of Thieves and loving it. This might be the nostalgia negative complaining video I’ve heard. You never know when someone new is trying to find a new place to subscribe. Bye
In truth, I feel like they had a missed opportunity on having the reapers or flameheart show up back in the monkey island tall tale to force the burning blade away from le chuck in the finale
Flameheart forcefully getting the sword from LeChuck or even just objecting would feel weird for the crossover. Someone who just came for Monkey Island would have said: "Who is this skeleton? Why is HE the one who saves the day by stealing LeChuck's sword?" Instead of Flameheart beating LeChuck's backside, everything should have played like it does now... BUT when you enter the Tunnels of the Damned to return to SOT, The Pirate Lord should have appeared and said something like "I didn't want to ruin the happy moment back there but... *the sword is gone".*
@@Thorumsu yeah I can see what you mean. I do agree at the very least the pirate lord at the end should’ve said something along those lines still, it would make for fun what if scenario
Remember when they said and I quote, "Flameheart has a huge role in the Monkey Island Tall Tales"? They literally lie through their teeth to us. And we eat it up and forget about it because "MONKEY ISLAND IS SO COOL" yes. That thing that maybe a few people played as kids a long time ago, that really had no place in Sea of Thieves. Just another collab for them to do. People seem to forget everything Rare talks about. Half of what they say is all just blatant lies to get people's hopes and hype up.
The fact we didnt even get a small fetch quest to go steal the burning blade is crazy. If it was so easy to guess who stole the burning blade and if Tasha is hearing so much like she states if you talk to her, why the hell did she just leave it on the counter overnight and not think to maybe hide it. The issue with most current story parts (Imo) is just that no one thinks anything through or gets surprised when the obvious happens, the characters i mean. Also curses in the Emporium continue to be a bad idea, we already get brand new models for costumes and whole ships on a regularly never-ending basis, now they're doing recolours of paid cosmetics as well as paid curses. I don't mind supporting some games but they are owned by a Trillion Dollar company, i think they can afford to miss one or two Emporium updates in order to add more in game items.
@@jordanroberts8785 I'm aware of how businesses work in the sense of "making consistant/more profit = continued business" but the point I was trying to make was with the fact that they're trying to push the Emporium shop so hard. They update it with mostly entirely new items with unique and new models as well as pets, apperance potions, ship renames, crests, trinkets and so on. The main game is being given drip-fed items that should of come out over a year ago and the Emporium is getting brand new stuff every month or so. The game is essentially their business and they are deciding to upgrade the snack machines rather than the work conditions, letting the building slowly decay whilst expecting everyone to continue on as per normal. (a bit of a wide comparison but I'm sure you can see what im implying) Arena was closed because of a "lack of players", Hourglass faces the same possibility due to lack of updates to get more people playing, consistant bugs and hackers still plague the game despite the anti-cheat, yet they still have the time to push out tons of new stuff for their cash store every single month without fail. That is my point. I'm sure it's microsoft pushing all that, as it always is, but it doesnt make it any less frustrating for most people.
@@Mister_Blean never played. But its how a lot of gaming businesses work nowadays. Most devs only care about money now. Its rare to find a game with a supportive dec team (examples being DRG and remnant 2)
I started playing in mid season 9, so everything I know about SoT lore comes from videos and the tall tales. I really wish we had seasonal updates that felt like seasons, and things like arena and adventures came back in some form. I’d especially love it if the old adventures came back, just as tall tales for newer pirates to play through. Little to no change needed
Arena was a bad idea. The same reason Safer Seas is so unpopular. Removing PvP or PvE from Sea of Thieves removes the purpose behind doing anything and alienates the playerbase.

You’re acting like there aren’t free curses still. This will only be a problem if they never add earn-able curses again. Right now theres no problem with a curse being added to the emporium
I don't think they ever were. The most "special" and difficult to obtain is the sunken curse, and most people don't even like it. Every other curse just requires a little bit of time put into their respective methods of obtaining. And guides to find books lol. However, the skeleton curse is an odd case, while the curse itself is not impressive, some of the cosmetic unlocks are.
