Jimmy, I started flying when I was nine years old. I soloed when I was 15. I am now 68 years old and due to a medical condition I can no longer fly. The way you described your passion about aviation is exactly the way I’ve always felt since I was nine years old. I may be 68, but what you are doing makes me feel like I’m nine again and just discovering the thrill of soaring in the air! Thank you.

Very similar here. First started flying very very young, solo’d at 17 but never actually finished flight school. Went into a career in aerospace as a mechanical / applications engineer. Still always loved all aspects of aviation and then finally went back and finished my part 61 ppl a few years ago and in the middle of finishing up my IFR rating this year

Paul, my Dad took me for my first airplane ride when I 7 or 8. He got his CFI, taught me to my PPL level, and then I ended up going in the Air Force, moved around and just didn't have the money after I got out to continue flying. I'm 64 and I don't know if I could get my medical back, but if I had the money (I still don't) and could get my medical back, I would love to fly again. Hey, while I'm dreaming, I saw yesterday on Controller a 2022 DA62 with 850 hours on it for $1.25M. That would be the airplane I would want today, with gas prices going higher than the service ceiling of most piston airplanes. Cruise at 180 knots at 13gph TOTAL on readily available Jet-A? What's not to like?!?

We are the same age and I started about that age.... I ride a bike everyday with a twenty pound back pack for the past twenty years and I watch my weight and what I eat. @@larrysouthern5098 You keep riding that bike every where, the minute you stop is the minute you put weight on and loose your fitness. Oh yeah, and stop the flight simulator either. If you don’t use it you loose it. I just got my Haro Master re release with Skyway Tuff 2’s, it’s a 24” inch cruiser B.M.X which I’m on every day every where, and I got back into Snowboarding in 2019 and go every year, and I wanna do more while I still can. And at 51 I still love it just like when I started. Do what you want if you still can, before Father Time no.

What I like about the 310. It was designed and built in the 50's when everything else was Kludge. Look at cars, trucks and other airplanes. The 310 is like someone went 30 years into the future and brought back the state of the art from the 80's. It is a really beautiful airplane for it's time. Like the DC3 or the XB70. When they were built, they were the future. So glad you are attempting to save this 310 and that your plans are to do it right. Congrats on the engine starts, Jimmy and crew. Now it's time to get down to some serious work. 💖👍👍

It was exciting to see them run, I still hold hope you can get her in the air. I live outside of Wichita, Ks, my dad worked at Beech Aircraft for 42 years as an inspector. Every year Beech had a family day where the workers could bring the family to Beech, show their family which plant and section they worked in, and go up for free airplane rides. My favorite plane is and always will be the Bonanza. That V tail just looks sexy. Also living close to Wichita meant McConnell AFB, and getting to see all the military planes flying all over the area, and as well, the Base Open House every year. I was fortunate we always went every year, and later, the occasional one due to budget cuts. I always wanted to learn how to fly, but never could afford it. My closest thing to it was working at a small airport East of Wichita, doing flight line jobs, fueling airplanes, cleaning them up, things like that. I was also fortunate to go flying occasionally, including flying occasionally to a city in Ks in the far SE corner, with a pilot and a Dr who went there every two weeks on a Friday to take part in a clinic ran by several Drs who took turns gong there to treat patients. One last thing, living close to Wichita has afforded me to witness one of the coolest airplanes, a B29 to be completely stripped, gone through and rebuilt. I haven’t been able to go fly in her yet, but I hope so before God calls me home. At 64, the time is starting to catch up, but I hopefully still have some time to accomplish it. So, if volunteers can rebuild one if not the most famous B29 out there, or many others, I’m sure if Doc can speak, it would tell you to keep going.

Great Job to your crew for getting the 310 running again. Alot of people have no idea what it takes to get these engines running and the plane back in the air. I loved your explanation on your passion for aviation. It was sincere and believable. I’m 72 now and hung out at our county airport so much they decided to put me to work. I was 14 then. They showed be how to refuel planes and actually left me in charge of the airport and Unicom on rainy days while the instructor and friends went to the bar. LOL They paid me in flight lessons. Sadly I didn’t get my license and spent my whole life looking up when I heard a plane and wishing it was me. So now I fly my home flight simulator with Eastern Hops Flight Community and get some satisfaction there. I enjoy your videos and can’t wait to see the finished 310 fly!!✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️

After spending 4 years in the AF and getting married, I finally got to take flying lessons. I got my private license on May 22, 1967, in Fullerton, California. Then, we had 3 daughters and the flying was drastically curbed. The last time I flew was in 1981but I am so happy that I had the chance. I only have around 140 hours but will always love the experience. I am now 82 years old and still love aviation. I so envy your efforts to get the 310 flying , and wish you all the luck. That 310 is a complex aircraft as a candidate for restoration. The ancient wiring behind that instrument panel and attached to the breaker panel at the pilots left is a massive project in itself not to mention that most of the panel is outdated technology. There are dozens of less complicated aircraft that would be much more simple restoration projects.

You should put the tail number: N310CP (cp of clear prop)

Jimmy, you seem a little down from looking at the future needs to get the 310 flying. You are fighting hard. Keep up the great work. I know you would never fly in an aircraft you weren’t 100% sure was airworthy. I wish you the best.

❤❤❤No Jimmy!!! Don't tear the engines apart!!!!! And forget the idea of compression testing after less than 1 h of flight @ hot engines direct after landing - it says nothing! Apart from being in a dry timecapsule for 37years they have what - 1h to 2h running time since overhaul? - You just remember what amount of complication arose simply from the decision for separating the wings from the fuselage! Talk to Mike Bush and ask who in your area is the most proficient person in taking boroscope pictures and send photos from the camshaft to him! And follow his expertise! Never touch a running system - avoid nonsense teardowns just out of curiosity! Get an experienced expert for your specific carburetors and let him do a new carburetors adjustment from scratch on the left engine! The only thing I would replace for New irrespective of the actual condition is the ignition harness on both engines and ground-line from magneto to kill switch or whatever it was that got cut at wing separation! I think you did it already but in case it wasn't on this airplane - get the magnetos rebuilt AND remagnetized to best performance possible! - it'll save you tons of time in avoiding hunting after funny engine behaviour! Or the membrane of the left carburetor is defective! And then fly to sun n fun with whatever plane seems to be sensible it's likely to be your piper Saratoga right? Just have fun there and get new tips from the pros! All the best to you all, Jimmy - I love❤❤❤ your 🤪 degree of passion for aviation because it resembles my attitude 😉 Keep on the good work! PS: Before the next flight relubricate any joint/bolt from the gear and test for 💯 function!!! Please avoid a belly landing after so much work🙏

My thoughts exactly....check for oil and fuel leaks, finding none, cowl up the engines and run them up letting them get up to normal operating temperature. Shut em down, check for leaks, problems, let them cool and next day do the same. After several of these run ups, he should dump the oil, get some fresh oil in both engines and do the run up sequence again. Fresh fuel in it, fresh oil in it, then go from there. Way too early to talk about a tear down which basically means a complete overhaul on both engines and probably twice what the entire aircraft is worth. An oil analysis from that new oil, not the old oil, would give some indication of any internal problems rather than tearing the engine down..
@jts4233
@jts4233 2 года назад
@@northdakotaham1752 Hey Dude! - that's abrillant idea perfectly complementing the "Non tear down" approach adding solid parameters for an educated decision what measures are necessary.
@northdakotaham1752
@northdakotaham1752 2 года назад
@@jts4233 those engines might have some problems from sitting so long but if they did, an oil analysis or several of them over a period of time would show it. As for the wiring, from what I have seen, primarily the wiring in the wings should be replaced. Wiring behind the panel will change with whatever new equipment gets installed there so that should just wait. Jimmy said he had different props...so go with those. Some airframe issues, light corrosion....just have to deal with them one at a time. You can't rush through a restoration and expect good results. The last thing you want to do is set an unrealistic deadline for completion.

I've been flying since '95. I'm in my 60's now & still I have not been able to explain adequately enough the joy it is to get airborne. Aviators are unique people.
@GaryMCurran
@GaryMCurran 2 года назад
You know, I don't think you CAN adequately explain aviation. It's one of those things that has to be experienced to be understood. Kind of like sex. Richard Bach (Jonathan Livingston Seagull and other great stories about flying) talked about 500' over the cornfields in the Central United States in the late afternoon in a Piper Cub, with the door open and looking out over the wheels that have dust on them. Doesn't mean a whole lot to most people, but if you've been lucky enough to fly low and slow in a Cub with the door open, it clicks. You know EXACTLY what he's talking about.

So far it looks like that 310 is going to be so nice you'll just keep it. That first flight and the first one after such a major rebuild is sort of scary. I rebuilt most of a CGS Hawk ultralight, almost the whole airframe with the exception of some small parts here and there. I was nervous but not shaking when I decided to fly it. A few crow hops, taxi back to the runway end and go. It flew so well it flew hands off when sitting normally, goes into a shallow dive leaning a few feet foreword, and shallow climb leaning as far back as I could. I was very exact at setting all decalage, incidence, and CG. That was the end of many months of worry. I had a great time on it for 300 hours then had to sell it and move to a far away job offer.
