Toff's - The UK's best Fish & Chip shop 

Had a mobile chippy back in the 60s drove round our village. The truck had a smokestack on top where all the lovely aromas wafted out and you could smell the beautiful frying fish and chips from 3 miles away. Life was simpler then.

Film was more interesting than I thought, good music and editing plus well thought out. Felix if the BBC ever open their archives then you should watch the series 40 minutes, which was a similar idea but 40m. Some people a bit rude about the chippy, thought it looked fine and it was London. Lot cheaper up north, but then a lot less money as well.

Chips were 22p a bag when I was at school 50p covered my bus fare to and from school a bag of chips can of drink and a chocolate. Can't beat a good chippy most kids today live in the chicken shops at lunch time..........

Great to see the world hasn’t Gone completely mad and those school kids can still get a chippy for lunch. At my school they banned us from leaving the school premises at lunch in 2006 when Jamie Oliver ruined school dinners forever.. all we had then was an option to bring a packed lunch or the awful new food in the school cafeteria

Any chippy who gets their fish from grimsby is a good from me! but £10 is ridiculous we pay £5 here for large haddock and chips!

my friend lived round the corner from there, those chips aren't that great at all !, but the pizza place round the corner is amazing 5£ for a nice thin pizza ! yum

From what I've seen so far , fish n chips over there is very expensive. Australia is atleast half that price.

The country has many great F&Chip outlets over the entire country, from North to South East to West, to name any single one as the best, would be unfair, as we are all different, and we all have our own preferences in life. Not everyone wants a BMW, right. 👍

The owner of Toffs died of Covid last April. Everyone thinks they have the best chippie in their area but one thing you cannot deny is the dedication to putting out a good staple of the British diet. RIP George.

When we tried Toff's we were quite surprised not at the fish and chips but at the price ,,, fourteen pounds fifty ,, absolutely outrageous ,, ridiculous price for a standard order of fish and chips. We tried Hobson's when we were in London ,, excellent fish and chips, bigger portions than Toff's and three pounds cheaper. We also tried Fisher's in London ,, two thumbs up there also large portion and three pounds cheaper than Toff's. I highly suspect your knowledge of fish and chip shops is quite limited and I think stating that Toff's is the best fish and chips in the U.K. is miles away from actual fact.

Best fish and chips are cooked in the north because they use beef dripping to cook them in. Any chippie south of Yorkshire use vegetable oil which makes the food taste yuk.

I prefer my fish to be skinless.

Can we live in the real world for a moment, fish more than ten miles from the port of landing is always going to be rubbish. And all fish from Grimsby is frozen on the ship...

None of the shops claiming to be the best are anywhere near the best because I can make better fish n chips. Now could I make as much money selling it? Absolutely not as it takes ages, prepare a day in advance, longer cooking times, much more expensive raw ingredients. Then again I noticed their prices was that £8.20 for a single cod? Haha maybe if I charged that much I could make it work - You need beer-battered fish and hand-cut fries

your working on a 30% profit on fish and chips before you take your staff into account at now roughly 10 pounds per hour including their pension per member, add your gas, electric rent and rates....hmmmm so how are you making money your not its not possible unless you have a turnover at around 4000 pounds per day everyday so i think im out

Sorry, I love fish and chips, but school kids should be having healthy school dinners or a packed lunch with something healthy - not chips!! Perhaps once a week is okay. Even if we had had a chip shop where my school was back in the 1980s, nobody ever would have gone there at lunchtime. We had school dinners or brought a packed lunch.
