Obviously the whole ''deadbeat dad'' is a joke (Toji didn't kill himself to dodge child support lmao). He killed himself after realizing he was fighting his son. Megumi would've died right there if Toji hadn't killed himself. That was the second and last good thing he did to protect his son.

he killed himself because when he lost to gojo he told him:my kid is gonna be sold to the zenin clan do what ever with this information... so gojo went and took care of his son and didnt let him join the zenin clan...fast forward while he is fighting his son..he recognized him so he knew that gojo kept his word and he taking care of his son so he smiled and killed himself.
