Join me as we look at flying a VOR approach into Toulouse with NAV/FPA and Track/FPA. There are many variables to non precision approaches, so this does not cover everything of course! More videos to come and any questions please ask!
I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the new detailed simulation of the longest baby 'bus by Toliss. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

A great video! You've explained this topic so simply and clearly that it's the mystery out of performing these approaches. Will be trying one of these a bit later! :). Many thanks! Would you please consider a video on flying circuits and touch and go landings?

@@320SimPilot I can well imagine that no-one asks to do circuits and touch and go very often :). I'd like to learn to do them properly because I reckon that they'd be handy for multiple practicing takeoffs and landings quickly, with minimal planning. I also ( in my limited knowledge :) ) suspect that they're good for developing precision in handling the aircraft manually and visually. I'd be interested to know what you think of them as a training tool...

@@320SimPilot in flight training the touch and go with several trainees onboard is often the final check. Great to see it done on a sim. Imagine if you could invite along trainees that would be even more fun. Often see commercial and military practice using touch and go at Newquay.

So usually pilots fly VOR approaches in approach mode if everything is ok with the airplane? I remember seeing some Greek islands charts having only VOR approaches. Would you still configure the airplane for approach that early if using APP mode?

You make a high workload procedure look like a walk in the park. I'd be sweating if I had to do this. Thank you for sharing!
@Airplanefooood
@Airplanefooood 4 месяца назад
The only difference is ATC won't let you fly at Vapp for 20 miles on approach (that would mess up their sequence). If this was the case in reality, these procedures would indeed be no higher in workload than any regular ILS (or NPA in FINAL APP).

Thank you for this video. I liked your trick to use the RA apparition distance as a watchdog indication for a correct descent path ! Just an added remark for your viewers: The early configuration (Gear down and full flaps) before descent is done according to Airbus SOPs for a non precision approach (NPA) such as VOR/NDB, LOC only and LNAV and is called “early stabilized approach “ To be compared with a “decelerated approach “ (configuration during the descent with the goal to be fully configured before 1000ft AAL in IMC conditions) one can/has to use in a precision approach or CDFA such as ILS or interestingly in an RNAV approach in LNAV/VNAV where the vertical oath is managed by the FMS via the autopilot (Final App)

Yes. He turned the AP off when he disengaged the FD (flight director) this is not a normal way to turn it off, so AP off is shown and sets a master warn. He resets it immediately, but if he didn't you'd hear the AP disengage bell sound

I guess there's not just one answer but what would be the most common approach in clear sky conditions?
@DavidStanko14
@DavidStanko14 2 года назад
Depends on the airport and runway but if the airport had an ILS on that runway then most likely an ILS. ILS's are used mostly anyway but some airports don't have ILS or a runway doesn't have an ILS or something so then u use maybe a VOR or an RNP or something but usually it would be an ILS

A question. With NAV/FPA or Track/FPA VOR approach, before arriving to the FAP (FD32R at LFBO is this video), is mandatory to have already flaps full ? Thanks in advance.
@320SimPilot
@320SimPilot 4 года назад
We set flaps full (if we are landing flaps full) 0.5 nm before we start the final approach descent. We don't want to configure whilst descending in FPA as it will 'balloon' high and make it difficult to regain the profile. Hope this helps!

@@320SimPilotI agree that we have to be “ early stabilized”. Would it be little bit easier if we put Vapp as an constraint speed in FAF? if we do that for sure that we will reach FAF with full config right?
@JacquesZahar
@JacquesZahar Год назад
Setting the Vapp speed as a constraint at the FDP is advisable. That’s even part of Airbus SOPs for early stabilized approach IIRC
