I've seen Tom shut down Charlie's silly comments at least twice now, and Charlie quickly changes the subject like the adept interviewer who can't be unsettled.
Certainly his most powerful novel. I hope the film is good. Red Storm Rising is also a favorite, as is Cardinal of the Kremlin. Clancy sure did his homework, and he was very adept at keeping the story rolling while imparting an incredible amount of technical information. He was a brilliant communicator. Solid writer.
Kid's these days have no idea who this guy is except for the name on the cover of the game that they play. Don't get me wrong i love me some Tom Clancy games. It's unreal to see that his name became just a brand, stamped on the cover next to the price tag. I like his success story as a writer, but i also enjoy the trash talk about his actual writing style. Also the fact that he was JUST a normal guy before the break of The Hunt for Red October, then his rise to fame and fortune began. These interviews are interesting and he proved early on that you can gain success in genre fiction if you can just come up with the right story at the right time. Or just get 'Lucky' as he has said previously.
Actually it is factually more correct to state that kids these days read more. That's just undeniable. We have more time for luxuries then any other generation.

ALL HOPE IS NOT LOST!!!I read "Red Storm Rising" when I was 11 years old as my first serous novel. it was gifted to me by my grandfather. I'm now 35 and my 13 year Old daughter ( who wants to fill her dad's boots and join the army), and I, have started reading it together as her first serous novel. we have been using a world map in her room to map out some of the senerios in the book to help her understand it... just like my grandpa and I did when I was a kid. Myself and my daughter are highly functional aspies (type of high functioning autism, that also makes us super smart) so to be fair we might be an exception

No one took him seriously at that time.
Hunt for Red October, Red Storm Rising, Clear and Present Danger, Sum of all Fears, Debt of Honor, Executive Orders, The Bear and the Dragon, Teeth of the Tiger are some of my favorite fiction by this man, would recommend

Dale Brown wrote a novel called ( Storming heaven) Same year as ( Debt of honor) Weird that Clancy or rose didn't mentioned it. Clancy wasn't the only one that wrote about terrorists flying planes as missiles Debt of honor was an awesome read
It's amazing how your view point changes over time. Although I think I have been consistent, I see stuff like this and realize how much I have changed.
Many years later, I remain affirmed that my emulation of Mr Clancy’s attitude of refusing to suffer fools, (looking at you Mr Rose) was one of my better life choices.
I wonder how he'd feel today. Previously saying we'd spread democracy around the world and it's the best system. I agree, it is. But I wonder if he underestimated how fragile it is. So many places are moving toward authoritarianism now. So is this country. Our own democracy is hanging by a thread.
Lol the French do seem to have a love/hate relationship with the US. But in the end, it feels like the US, Britain, and France will always be roughly on the same page.

WTF are you talking about? His later books struggle because he was obviously loosing interest in writing the Ryan books. He realized his legacy was being turned into a soulless cash grab of corporations riding on his name.
@@strikerlynx8686 ubisoft did alot of his early work justice with the early games. They weren't the problem considering the amount of work in film/television/gaming Several great titles from ubisoft, compared the shit show that EA and Activision did to later ghost recon games ubisoft only did part of the design of later titles and theres alot of people to blame And before his death years before he was actually happy with the early Ghost Recon games, he did not game himself obviously but he was supportive of it, he had input and acknowledged the projects before his passing after 2006
@@Lonewolf6565 most of those cash grabs he was supportive of up till his passing. He liked money too lol Film/literature/TV/gaming - all big Industries and he was supporting as well as acknowledging his "brand" as a multimedia franchise he even went as far as to say quote "it's both art and entertainment and I always liked the idea of exploring and venturing into new territories" So obviously we can't speak for him anything that's been done after his passing but during his life he realized the value of multi media entertainment and how both gaming and films can expand on something not possible in a book you realize he spoke at Loyola university about tech and advances in the industry and its relation to his work (and that was 14 years ago).
@@strikerlynx8686 no ubisoft isn't a big example considering he supported 4 of their projects lolol and further more the same with mel Gibson's IMAGE productions in filming same with Spielbergs production studio. He liked several projects
