Could you imagine all the shit he’s been through. First off the horrific pain in your back, the exhausting touring while caring for a child who wasn’t even 5 yet, the demise of your band and the end of the relationship with your best friend, then the addiction to the painkillers, then skin cancer, and all that brewed together. It was probably psychologically damaging and that’s why Tom is “crazy” now 2022 edit: It turns out Tom wasn't as crazy as we thought, but very passionate about his endeavors.

In all fairness, Tom lucked out and made millions. Plenty of talented artists don't make a penny. Still love Tom and have fond memories of him in Blink-182, but he hasn't exactly had to endure a normal life. It doesn't mean his whole life has been pissing bliss in a bed of roses, but he hasn't had to worry about money in a really long time now. He can do anything he wants. I don't think Tom even had and money problems back when he was addicted to opiate drugs, and if anything's gonna fuck you financially, it's that kinda thing!

I always tolerated David in AvA. Not only because he was in Box Car Racer, but he was the voice of reason and optimism. I really liked what David was saying in this scene because whenever Tom opened his mouth, he was the one who said, "Listen, think of the listeners (and potential fans)." I hope David hasn't lost touch with AvA completely (I wouldn't blame him if he did), because he was as vital as everyone involved with making AvA a reality.

I grew up in Poway, still live in Rancho Bernardo...I was addicted to prescribed Hydrocodone(Norco), OxyCodone(Oxy contin) Xanax, and like tom (Gabapentin). The ONLY way I got clean was when I talked to him at the HoB in San Diego, his mom laid it down straight for me. I went to multiple detox and rehabs, didn't work, I had to move to the desert and lock myself up in a room. My prescriptions were for compression fractures in my spine and Anxiety. How come Tom's back pain is never brought up and the fact that he needed drugs to deal with it every day? The fact that he could still play and record while dealing with all this pain and not being sober while also being hilarious is a serious thing that needs to be acknowledged.

I have the same. Disc herniation that is compressing the sciatic nerve. It's considerably painful but I've resisted the hard drugs so far (although the doctor gave me a script for what Tom was on). I can see why it was easier for him just to take the happy pills and carry on doing shows. Surgery and physio is dedication and time.

Honest I had no idea until today about any of this. I truthfully remember sitting in my living room, watching much music and these hot dudes walked down this tunnel and the music was amazing and I’m thinking the lead guy looked familiar and then my husband said “that’s Tom from Blink, this is his new band” and I’m like “ugh he’s always so obnoxious” I likes some of Blinks stuff but AVA as soon as I heard The Adventure I fell in love. Nothing to do with who he was or what was said. Just loved the music. Love him and I’m so glad he got sober and was able to go on to create such masterpieces. He truly is one of the most gifted musicians. All these years later finding this out.

I was on pain killers for bad disks in my back too… before you know it you need to take them so u don’t throw up in the morning. Nobody knew about my problem if you asked people that know me nobody would believe that I was addicted, I’m a business owner, have a family, I use to be in bands I’m always doing something I’m just not the guy that would be doing them so if it happened to me it can happen to anyone. To be honest I did use pain killers responsibly for a good 5 years there are times I wouldn’t take one for months then i got hooked. I didn’t go to rehab I just quit and used kratom. What helped me a lot was telling my girlfriend because I knew if I told her then I would have consequences if I decided to use them again. If you can make it a few weeks u will start to get ur mind back, think clearly and start to get energy back. Last thing I’ll say if ur in pain don’t use pain killers it’s the easy way out, many ways to rid ur body of pain without drugs you absolutely will get hooked.

Tom went through so much shit... the fact he even kept recording. The drugs didn't come on because he was a "junkie" if you listen to the interview 4:14 to 5:30 and know anything about back pain this guy had more than one injury that caused him ALOT of pain. And was a lot more than a lot of people deal with. Anyone dealing with THAT amount of pain would bring the drugs in to try and get rid of it....
@jroo9075
@jroo9075 9 лет назад
AZ.LUNATIC_ Before the pills, Tom self-medicated with alcohol. And yes, however you want to put it, Tom became addicted to the pills. Yes, he became an addict. Going through major withdrawals is no joke. It happens...and whether he actually kicked and is sober today is one thing, but another is making sure you are taking care of the internal problem, the problem that put you in a position to drink excessively or to abuse your medication. For some people, even before they take the first drug, they have differences in their brain that make them susceptible to drug addiction. And usually addiction is just a symptom of something bigger going on within the mind. Tom definitely has some issues, it's clear he realizes this...and I feel like he's still trying to deal with it, thus his strange behavior as of late.

AZ.LUNATIC_ yeah I had a slipped disk not nearly as serious as Toms. I would play my guitar so low bending over to play my guitar. And since I immediately knew what it was, so I stopped playing guitar that way. My back took a while to heal but it still hurts everyone and again. And I barely started pains but they still hurt a fuck load so I think Toms back pain must’ve been fucking hell.

Tom is still the same... Just look at him how sad he is about Blink, he misses it. But he realized that for himself he needed to grow up and he needed to find a way to raise his kid in a good way but still keep going on with music. Tom is still the same fucking funny, potty mouth kid he is, he just realized some things he needed to change in his life. We know we all love the old Tom, and maybe one day he will be back! Tom, I love you. I wish for one day I could hang out with you.

I love you Tom. I'm supportive of him one hundred percent of the way and always will be until the day I die. I think AVA is absolutely incredible and anyone who disagrees needs to realize Tom has matured and he will never go back to his old Blink days. Just be thankful that Blink got back together and are continuing to make great music.

I don't know why he was stressed about his comments, Kanye took away the attention pretty quickly

you have to understand he was essentially in the same band for years. this is a lot like being with your girlfriend/wife for years then splitting up and realizing everything you've missed out on...so what if he gets overly excited and says he thinks his shits amazing.

This is...suprisingly deep and a bit sad. During the part where he was on the drugs. I mean, it has a happy ending, but borderline bittersweet. It makes you want to "oh hunnn. :/' him. But it makes me happy that he's sober. The new Blink-182 album is going to be amazing. I've heard people say 'oh it'll suck now, they aren't the same, they've changed' Yeah they've changed. That change? Their sober. Its gonna be the best album yet. Just. You. Wait.
