Thomas Stuart Ferguson was an amateur archaeologist and the founder of the New World Archaeological Foundation, which received funding from the LDS church and was eventually absorbed into the church and headed up by then apostle Howard W. Hunter. By 1970, Ferguson came to the conclusion that the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham were not historical, and doubted that Joseph Smith had gifts for translation. In a personal letter, Ferguson explained how he still participates in the church even thought he knows it is false, and advises others to do the same.

We cannot support a lie either by silence or participation in that lie. Nor can you be neutral for that too is evil.

I know A LOT of members who are doing this. When I left the church after 35 faithful years, I considered this route to avoid hurting the feelings of family and friends. I tried to go and take out the good parts, but it's just not real. I would squirm in church listening to people's testimonies when they didn't have a clue of what they were talking about. Listening to Sunday School lessons where I knew the history was different than it was. Then of course, the big knife in my back that my "beloved prophet and apostles" had hidden church history and old doctrines from me. It was too much to swallow and keep attending. My final act of letting go was stop paying my tithing. I thought at least donating to charity had some merit. But not with the LDS church. They don't even pay 10% of what they collect to charity like I thought I was doing. It's all just too much. Who wants to knowingly live a lie?

That is well though out, and an obviously painful insight. But now looking back at the pain you went through it was somehow worth it. It gave you new insight you could not get any other way , and it made you new again to go on with your life while others are stuck. My best

@@williamthompson9969 Yes you're absolutely right, and it's true...many are living the same story but without ever getting out. I am definitely fortunate. Thanks for the response.

You proved to yourself that you are not comfortable living a lie and being a hypocrite. It proves you are of good character. I hope you kept Jesus and didn’t toss Him out with the Mormon “bath water”

I left the church and found the real Jesus! I know others feel totally burned by religion and I totally understand. But when you know the real Jesus and the real bible, it's clear that church doesn't save people - He does. There is no true church! There is a true Jesus. People don't get saved by a church. We get saved by Jesus. Period. End of Story. The body of Christ is diverse, from home bible groups, to larger churches. Just as Christ said, "where ever two or more are gathered in my name, I am there also.' I hope that folks look around, all the birth pains are here - Jesus is coming back soon! Please, get to know Jesus now!

Me, too! I was LDS for 30 years. Ten years after that, I finally became familiar with the real Jesus Christ. Bless you for sharing the actual true gospel! 👍🙏

Absolutely hypocritical. I have zero respect for Tom Ferguson.Nothing about the "good ship Mormonism" is good and much about it is harmful. It is nothing but a deceptive corporation built on a foundation of lust and greed. Whatever Tom was getting out of it (supposedly TSCC did provide community at one time) has been lost.

Isn't it pretty much the same as a lot of Catholics I know? They don't believe in any of it, but it is a part of their cultural upbringing so they go through the motions, but really only go to church on the high holy days and what - not. I myself could not live that way and I broke with the church (Mormonism) so I can see your point, but I know so many Mormons that go to church (not as often), but live their lives as they please. It's mostly for their family's sake that they do it at all.

Wise man. Another man Howard Storm who by his own admission was not nice at all before he had a profound near death experience that changed his life. He died and met Jesus and had a long discussion with him. He wanted to stay in heaven with Jesus but was told he was not ready. He was sent back into a horribly sick body that took months to heal. The book is called “ my descent into death “ by Howard Storm. One of the questions he asked Jesus was what church is the true church. Jesus answered “ whatever church brings you closer to God” which surprised Howard. Jesus also told him in answer to his question “ why does God allow such horrible things to happen like the holocaust.? He was told God hates wars but we as humans where so determined by our free will that God allowed it. Jesus told him “ there is good in this world if you search for it” I believe Howard Storms account and I am also less judgmental of this church and of other faiths. All I can say is this church is not for me. But if it makes you more loving of others and God then it is the right church for you. But me and many others are leaving for any church that creates more love for themselves, others and ultimately God. These are now my beliefs and it seems like it is working to make a more loving person. We see this , I have seen many people more loving and compassionate than a lot of Christians, even though for me the worship of Christ is the best choice. My best, forgive me for my long message but I felt it was important to express myself.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world & yet lose his soul? To remain in a blasphemous cult because it is comfortable and you like the social aspects and forfeit you eternal soul is lunacy

I studied the Book of Mormon and I concord with the explanation of Ferguson ,. The Book of Mormon it’s not real and it is fictitious so Joseph Smith was actually an scammer ,. But !! And this is important ,. The book Speaks about JESUS and God Father almighty and the Holy Spirit. And that some how it’s spreading the word of gospels . Salvation through baptizing, repentance and believe Jesus the true Messiah is the way to the Father and paradise . That’s make the center of the context of the book truthful.

The Book of Mormon has never been proven, not one historian or archeologist has validated the book, not one artifact has been found. To be a Mormon you are denying God, do it for God and leave this false church.

Lead your children to believe something that's sketchy at best. Why not? Christians do it. Muslims do it. Jehovas Witnesses do it. All religions do it. Teach what you are born into.
