Tom Jones had one of the great voices. No autotune back in the day and this was performed live. He still performs at 83 years of age and sounds great. When Tom Jones sang, you knew it was Tom Jones.

He was greatly respected by his fellow artists from Sinatra to Elvis Presley, Wilson Picket to Stevie Wonder. He sang with many many more greats from Janis Joplin to Cher. Yet he hasn't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He's one of the great voices & performers, with many styles from this to "It's not Unusual", ect. And Camilla's right, growing up in 60s & 70s was simpler. There was generally accepted behavior, & every mom on the street would correct or give you a "look" if you were out of line. What Frank or Movie Stars did was & always will be a different thing.

As someone who finished high school in 1967, I'd have to say that you have the wrong impression of the period. Have you forgotten about the hippies, "free love", the anti-war demonstrations, the revolution dealing with the blacks, etc?

Another one that is awesome is Tom Jones' 1967 performance of the standard "Autumn Leaves." The one from French TV. Instead of using his powerful voice to belt the song, he uses a different side of his artistic gift, and paints the notes in a wistful hue using a gentle, emotive touch. I love seeing all different sides in his performances... from "I Who Have Nothing," to "Raise Your Hand" with Janis Joplin, the cover he and John Farnham rocked... AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top [if You Want To Rock And Roll]"... and "Cry To Me" on The Voice UK.

Tom Jones FELT every word and lived them, just like Elvis Presley's "If I can Dream". They really enjoyed singing for it's own sake - AND IT SHOWS! . Not for the fame. Not for the money. Many new artists grew up having all their moments captured on video from their mom's first ultrasound, to first steps, first day getting on school bus, etc. As a result, it seems talent contestants give off the vibe of being in it - to be a star. I could be wrong but that's my theory. Great reaction. Thank you. Peace.

Respectfully, Camilla's expectations about what it was (or perhaps should have been) like in the 60's sounds a lot like false nostalgia. It's definitely not a standard by which someone like Tom Jones can or should be judged. Historians have traditionally been taught to leave their preconceptions at the door so that they can study the past for its own sake. They do that because it gives them (and us) an enriching understanding of the past. It's a practice by which all of us should abide.

Very cool! I LOVE that both of you would react to something like this (and John Denver and other artists who are seldom reacted to). This song was one of countless classics written by Burt Bacharach (RIP) and Hal David (this time with input from Lonnie Donegan, as well) and Jones just knocked it clean out of the park. Too bad his voice was often overshadowed by his image, but what are you gonna do. Wish I knew who else was playing. I’d bet dollars to donuts that Tommy Tedesco was involved and possibly Hal Blaine (or maybe even Bernard Purdie). Glad to see a video on this performance.

This song was written by Lonnie Donegan and Jimmy Currie. The other I'll Never Fall in Love Again is a completely different song by Bacharach and David and was performed by Bobbie Gentry.

@@sethcashman1011 No problem, I'm in my 70s so I can relate to that! There is a misleading description on Google which does say the song was written by Bacharach, David and Donegan.

If you were offended by Tom Jones kissing ladies during his television show, know that's why all of them were in the first 2o rows. They absolutely wanted to get a kiss from him. In these, we weren't germaphobic or as emotionally stunted as people today are. Elvis and Tom Jones were friends. The two of them played Las Vegas on the same schedule they compared stories about the women who came to see them. And just so you know, most of the womanizers back in the day wore suits and ties and were dirty rotten scoundrels offstage. Many singers were scoundrels onstage during the shows that weren't on television. That's why most singers got into the business. For example, Elvis has a show in Las Vegas where he is performing LOVE ME TENDER live. Watch and listen to his audience as he tries to sing that song. Next up, Vikki Carr and her most popular hit. LET IT BE HIM. Enjoy

I just read a couple of days ago that Tom Jones is performing in Finland at Pori Jazz Festival next summer. Why not, if Nightwish played Montreux Jazz Festival 2012. There are nowadays artists from many different genres at Pori Jazz - pop, rock, blues... including big international names. Jazz alone does not bring in enough people/money. Tom Jones started his career almost 60 years ago! I do not know if he/his voice is in a good shape or not. One of his songs, "If I Only Knew", was chosen to be the theme song of the icehockey world championships in Finland, (a decade ago?). The song was quite heavy, screamy, not typical for him but he did good.
