The real brilliance is how cookie monster paradoxically lends moral authority to a song about the horrors and immorality of war and recent wars. Art about war that takes a literal approach often fails to evoke the absurdity and horror, while this succeeds almost in a Catch-22 manner, using an innocent childhood character who is all about comic absurdity. A true work of art.

He is only Whiskey Monster for breakfast! The rest of the day he still eats cookies. I'm amazed he's held it together this long. Charley really did a number on him. He still wont talk about it after all these years, but it's obvious that he has seen some shit. Last I heard, he lost his foot to dia-beet-us and the V.A. wouldn't do anything because his disability isn't service-connected.

Hehe, too long! It's a laborious process, and some of the steps are quite tedious :) I estimate that this new one took between 550 and 600 hours (spread over a 7-8 month period), and the first one was more like 300 hours over a 4 month period. A programmer friend thinks I might be able to semi-automate part of the process, but I can't code... so I rely on brute-force methods instead!

I'm not surprised, and thought I might hear this comment more. The truth is, with many of its lines delivered at such a quick pace, this song was FAR harder to do than "god's away". It was a good thing I tackled that one first, as this one probably would have thwarted my first attempt!

Also, much of what makes these videos fun is the sheer effort that goes into handpicking each clip, and how well they sync up in spite of having nothing to do with the music you're using. It feels more...authentic, as a video, I suppose.

People have been saying that Tom Waits would love these, and that seems pretty much a sure thing. But I think Jim Henson would have loved them too. Apart from how funny they are, they're so beautifully precise. Not a misstep anywhere for sync or the perfect image choice.
