I guess he drove them crazy many times too. E.g. when Federer lost to then 20-y old Berdych at 2004 Olympics tournament in Athens. Perhaps, he should have employed sport psychologist as well, he could have made the big 4 a group of 5. Anyways, he did marvelous job in his career, another great Czech tennis player in the history of tennis.

@@pacochuquiure7807 that really was just Murray's year tbh. Even in the Djokovic match, there were so many chances for Djoko in that match, but Murray was able to thread a needle here, force an error there, break through the defense at will, etc. He thoroughly made up for the wimbledon loss by crushing everyone at the Olympics and clutching the US Open.

Berdych was one of those rare tennis talents who was a threat on any terrain with the uncanny ability to make other players seem like they had less control and power on the court. he felt a little inconsistent during points in his career but always a delight to watch him play against anyone, and pulled the Big 4s card at will. today's tennis game needs more like him.

@qubitz5906
@qubitz5906 4 года назад
What was amazing about his forehand, is how he was able to generate that much power, without looking like he was putting any effort into the shot. With Del Potro, Monfils, Thiem and Federer for example you can see the effort or at least the long windup motion. Berdych forehand was so simple and direct, with a flat trajectory that imo is better to watch than a loopy topspin forehand (they're like lasers).

Ive always said, when this guy was in his prime around 2011-2013 I would put my money on him to beat federer and murray and occasionally djokovic. The grand slams and career titles and head to heads dont necessarily show it but he definitely seemed to have federers and murrays number back in the day. Nadal and djokovic seemed to know how to beat him but he could still give them a real fright.

I remember Paris 2005, when Berych was so young and already won a masters 1000. He showed a clean, smooth, impeccable technique and with all that insane power, it's cruel that tennis is so defense and mental based. He could have never develop mentally bock against the big 3 If If he had won a few more big titles in the beggining, perhaps he would have been a much more prominent player and even won some Grand Slams. Amazing shotmaker. More technical than Murray, Nadal or Djokovic. And with a natural ability to generate insane acceleration on every ball that comes out of his racket.

Probably one of the biggest underachievers in the sport history. He did get to all of the slams sf Atleast once, but to be 6’5, move extremely well, have both rockets in backhand and forehand, and a good serve, and only 1 slam final? I get that he played in the best era of tennis, but his mental game was iffy. He could come out and be lights out or get washed in threee sets.

My first impression of him was that he was arrogant, didn’t handle audiences well, and a bit antisocial when it came to fellow professionals. Over time, though, he became more likable, and social. Funny thing was how he was the ATP professional who used Twitter quite a lot and spammed a lot of tweets. It’s a shame that he couldn’t extend his career as he was one of the few who was able to compete and beat all he Big Four and was one of the frequent top rivals. He may not have won as much, but he sure encountered them a lot. He evolved into a better professional. Wish him well on the next chapter.
