Connie Chung got the scoop and interviewed figure skater Tonya Harding just after the attack upon Nancy Kerrigan occurred. Harding's husband had hired a thug to attack his wife's rival. Really great time capsule stuff. Amazed not on RU-vid otherwise! #tonyaharding #nancykerrigan #skating #figureskating #olympics #interview #conniechung #sports

She was a fascinating person. The worst part of this is that Tonya’s talent really did have a higher ceiling than Nancy’s, and that got lost in the shuffle.

Obviously nobody here knows what battered woman syndrome is .. she has a horrible childhood then ran to her boyfriend /husband to save her ..she really only ran to another abuser Very common… Tonya thought abuse was love everyone abused and used her and she paid the ultimate price more than anyone else in this story. That’s why she skated best under pressure and trauma bcuz that was her comfort zone and where she felt safe. That is sad. It’s called.. Fear based trauma Ptsd
@Fedex-75

not that she felt safe, but more she felt like she is at home in know place or sorroundings. I don't think, she ever felt safe, but it was normal for her.

The right thing to do is to give her back her skating rights, even if she never chose to get on the ice again, the punishment was insanely harsh. Clearly, she was a battered woman and her abuser got what he wanted to destroy her career because he couldn't control her. Very sad situation. The media took this story and ran with it.

@@georgicleary8956 It's more than dignity. They ruined her financially. In the year 2024 there are many older skaters entering special competitions in their 50's such as Debi Thomas who was the first African-American woman to win a winter Olympics medal (bronze/'88). But that's light stuff. The ban ruined her because she was not only banned from skating but also COACHING. She was not only banned but blacklisted. So she could never open her own gym/rink and train upcoming skaters which is what many ex-Olympians to make money and stay semi-relevant.

I hate to say this but so many womens careers and lives have been ruined by abusive men. Her husband is a text book case of an abuser. He lost control of her so he released a sex tape that he recorded without her knowledge and also stated that she was responsible for the attack. I am not shocked that once again a man gets away with it and the woman is not believed. It still happens today.

I feel bad for Tonya because she had a really hard life as a child and her mom was so abusive. No wonder why she put up with an abusive husband for so long!. In my opinion the punishment didn't feet the crime!. That judge was unfair, and men! After all Tonya didn't even know about the attack against Nancy. The people that were responsible should have pay a longer time in jail, after all they were the ones that ruing her reputation and her carrer. I still like Tonya Hatding and I belive in her innocence in that horrible incident. I also use to like Nancy Carregan. figure skating. They were both great scatters.

It was the early 90's. Many interviews that you would look back and cringe on now....even up to the early 2000's. Go back and look at the Britney Spears interviews from that period. NONE of this would fly now. We all now know more about abuse and mental health and if people forget and slip up and say and do something dumb there is now social media to get them in order. 😂

The men have a secret club and drug the women. They all talk in commercials and we see a few Crack from brain washing. The artist is tricked by the men's club to stab her best friend. People say nasty stuff to each other when they are in the middle of fights. I think about all the abuse I have copped from previous girl friends. Women are not innocent on this front. They give as good as they get. Its easy to hear one side and make assumptions. There are always two versions of the same story. I have been around for a long time. Believe me when I say Tonya may portray the victim well in this interview but I would wager good money she was no angel. It human nature to believe women because we have this misguided perception that all women are darling little angels. They most certainly are not.
