This video provides an overview of the tool database, showing how to manage your library of tools in the software. You will see how to navigate the tool list, copy and create new tools, edit tooling parameters and import and export tool information. You will also see how to add a form tool (custom shaped tool) and where to access the actual tool database file on your hard-drive for backup purposes.

Helpful tutorial ... thanks. Question ... Say I want to change the Vectric default pass depth for a VBit or Endmill for a specific project and material. I go ahead and generate the toolpaths, save the gcode for that particular project's CNC machining. However, I want to retain the Vectric default pass depth for that VBit or Endmill for all of my other future toolpath calculations. Is there a way to only change the tool pass depth temporarily then do the toolpath calculations and gcode generation for a specific project without changing the drop down tool's default cutting paramenters ... or ... must I save the default bit info as an export to the Vectric tool database folder as you show in the tutorial then subsequently import it back into my tool database?

Hello Thomas... yes there is. For any toopath when you choose a tool you are given the defult tool setting you have in your Tool Database. If you, in the toolpath dialogue (under the tool you have choosen) select "Edit"... this will change the tool setting for that specific toolpath, and will not update your toolbatabase. Hope that helps.

I have a tapered ball nose bit, and the specs give every dimension about it except the side angle (taper). I have the length of the cutting area to the tip, but when I do a little trig to get the angle, it comes up just 0.12 deg. Doesn't matter if my units in mm or inches? Maybe this is why the angle comes out so small.

Hello Kent... this would be one for support@vectric.com. If you send them an email they will be able to give you a bit of direction.

I know you can add an image of the profile of a form tool, is there a way to change the image of the tool that appears on the tool database screen?

Hello and thanks for the question... at this point no, but if you email support@vectric.com and tell them what you think we could do better, they could add it in as a customer suggestion.

I would like to see aluminum added to the materials list.

Hello James... we could add it, but it might be easier if you do. You can add just about any material you like to the tooldatabase. We probaly would not ship any feeds and speeds for aluminum seeing as it would vary depending on the grade... but you can now share toobatabases via a link so your tool or machine supplier could create a tooldatabase and you coud copy the relevent material, and tools from it. On the flip side if you do the work and share it with them, or other users like yourself, that would benifit from tested or base feeds and speeds.

@@vectric I'll second that request. The only reason I run Windows is for VCarve. At very least make a Windows version that runs well with WINE. Right now it installs but doesn't open a GUI (although the application seems to be running in the background). Thanks.
