They were ticked off with their record label at the time ha, which wanted them to come up with a short radio friendly song so Maynard wrote those angry lyrics about is this what you wanted is this what you had in mind to the label execs and they put that LONG interlude in the middle to make it too long for radio play. That’s the lore I’ve heard for this song at any rate.
Supposedly because this was kind of a "gag" song as a f-u to the label, I believe Danny said he recorded the drums in one take while the other guys were messing with him trying to get him to mess up
AFAIK they were mad at the label because they wanted them to make radio-friendly hits, so they made a short angry song and then added the longest quietest interlude in the middle. The song is a huge fuck you on so many levels@@shieldsup4927
I know a lot of fans have said this on the internet, but its nothing more than an myth & exaggeration... the songs for the album were written long before Cliff Burnstein & Peter Mensch (who were the 'record label" at that point time) even heard them. Again, Tool originally signed a small record contract with Zoo/Volcano for the purpose that they would have 100% artistic control. The record label has never had any say in anything they've created.
Black Sabbath was one of Maynards favorite bands back in the day. Kiss too, believe it or not. And everybody loves Led Zeppelin. Great job. Keep on spiraling out😊
I've been a die-hard tool fan for 26 years and sometimes I hear Danny Carey play to this day and................... I don't even know what to say? Like how?
One of my faves by them. If you enjoyed this get on Crawl Away, think you'll be feeling that one for sure. You're going to get lost down this rabbit hole.....forever. TOOL is a serious addiction and lifelong.
one afternoon I was chilling to one of my favs ( admittedly a little loud ) minding my biz when I noticed one of the neighbors cranking up his shit - nothing against rap but challenge accepted. Que Ticks and Leaches Cranked 😂😂
I absolutely love the slow down middle section and then the subsequent blast back into the song. I dont care about the meaning behind the song, i love it regardless
Dairy of a Mad man!! Another great one, Randy Rhodes legend, influenced dime bag from Pantera, another legend. Love Tool, that’s a throw back old school banger from Tool, some suggestions for tracks you haven’t done yet, Eulogy, the patient, bottom, very underrated Tool songs but some of my favorite!! Love the reactions brother, your almost certified Tool Army
This is the only track i prayed 2 hear live, unfortunately i dont think it will ever be performed live again, 2 vocally demanding. Any1 out there ever hear it live?
Living in the Appalachian mountains you must always check for these little succubus buggers often...and it suuuuuucks 🎵🔥literally & figuratively lol...TOOL always Rocks 🔥thanks to you & Russ for this jammer
7:37 - Really? You do not ever think what those tax moneys have given to you? MAN you do not get this song.. You ARE the tick and the leeche wanting to get everything without giving anything.. o_O; This song is not about taxes, it's about the corporate greed that you are showing complaining about your taxes that provides (and has provided you) with free education, healthcare and stable and safe society.. Jeebus..
I love tool, but I hate when one jackass comes in and pretends they understood every lyric ever done by tool the first time they heard it. Get over yourself…
The irony of this post. Imagine thinking the person that works for what they get is the leech and not the person saying "You need to pay more taxes so I get free stuff". It is not free if you are paying for it. They are just taking away your option. So many people are blinded by corporate greed that they are blind to government greed.
