Great list! With my limited library of games I would vote for Gloom of Kilforth, Shadows of Malice, Mistfall (with Heart of the Mists) & Mage Knight.

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords 8. Mistfall: Heart of the Mists 7. Legacy of Dragonholt 6. Of Dreams & Shadows 5. Hexplore It: Valley of the Dead King 4. Heroes of Terrinoth 3. Runebound 3rd Edition (with the Unbreakable Bonds expansion) 2. Gloom of Kilforth 1. Mage Knight Most interested in but haven't played them yet: -Shadows of Malice -7th Citadel -Robinson Crusoe -The Pirate Republic Oh, and thanks for letting us know about Legends of Novus and Dawnshade. I hadn't heard of either! Lastly, I think I'm REALLY going to regret not backing The Isofarian Guard. Man... I really hope it's good. And super successful so there's another KS campaign or, better, a retail release!

A great top 10, Colin ! As usual, I really enjoy your tops, this one is closer to a top 15... ;-) I'm glad you kept Runebound in your list, it's still in my top 3 ! No problem for me if there is no campaign, I am writing it down ! For example, you can start with the Fall of the Dark Star scenario, which is competitive (or semi-coop) and at the end of this first scenario, the heroes decide to work together against the evil and foes that reappeared in Terrinoth as a consequence of the Fall of the Star (Margath, Vorakesh, etc). Between each scenario, you can keep one item and/or ability per hero to make a progression. So you have a mini-campaign for 12-15 hours of play :-) I tried Robinson Crusoe a few weeks ago... It's hard ! Very immersive. I like it. I'm still waiting Legend of Novus late pledge. I would add Near and Far from Ryan Laukat in my top Adventure games. Like you, I'm waiting for Sleeping Gods !! Have you tried Call to Adventure ? It is also excellent ! And V-Commandos ? Would you say it's an Adventure game ? I love it too ! Now you know some of my favorite board games ;-) Finally, I see you love minis : did you see the Blacklist Games fantasy minis series 1, launched by Adam and Brady Sadler on KS ? 65$ for 200 minis ! Really solid list, I wouldn't add or quibble with much. I don't care for Journeys in ME but understand some of its strong points. No 7th Continent though? The one game I was completely unaware of is Secrets of the Lost Tomb. I usually like more strategy but could make an exception for that exciting exploration feel. Great to see your opinion of Arkham Horror increasing; I think it can coexist with and compliment LotR very well. The dream would be if LotR rebooted by adding some of those Arkham-style campaign & experience mechanics to the quests we already have.

Great list! I agree with almost all of them. Interesting that JiME made it to number 4 in your list - I've heard people say it doesn't really "feel" like a LOTR game. And I took a perverse pleasure in seeing a couple of games that I think are overrated not making an appearance in the list :)

Colin ... regarding Gloom of Kilforth: 1st. I highly recommend the 6 fan-made expansions for this (professionally printed): they gave you 4!!! new ancients, many more skills to choose from, and a bit everything else (nights cards, encounters,...). All looks fantastic and well written flavors. Even the game has its flaws, i like the game for the narrative it creates in my mind (and as player you have to be in the mood for).

My #1 is This War of Mine and excited about the up coming Etherfields!

Colin, I know from previous convos you’re not into Hexploreit or 7th Continent, but what is your opinion of Tainted Grail? Also, some others I’m curious why you didn’t have on your list: Dragonfire/Shadowrun Crossfire, Western Legends, Aeon’s End Legacy, Hero Realms Ruin campaign, Thunderstone Quest, Too Many Bones, and Nemesis (stretch maybe). It’s hard to define adventure game when you had your dungeon list too! Hope I didn’t repeat some of those now that I think about it... and are you maybe not a deck-builder fan? Okay, better stop there before I’m WAY ahead of myself! 😄 Great video!

Good list and great work! I’m having great fun with Nemo’s War lately... Interested in Mage Knight or Star Trek: Frontiers. Saw your play through videos for both and these games and you teach them well! Still not sure between these two. Which one would you recommend most? Thank again!!

My favourite games if all time are Eldritch Horror and Mage Knight. Runebound 3rd edition didn't appeal to me at all. Not a fan of deck construction, so LCG's are out. I've been wanting to find a copy of Touch of Evil, especially with the expansions, and Secrets of the Lost Tomb looks very fun. I'm interested to know more about Dawnshade. I've been looking into Euthia: Torment of Resurrection, a game to come on Kickstarter on May 5th. It looks interesting, but not sold yet on solo play. Roll Player Adventures should be on Kickstarter later this year as well. I know nothing about it, but I do love Roll Player, so I'm interested to see what it's like

Hey Colin, have you played Of Dreams & Shadows? I think you may like it, if you haven't. As for my favorites, well, Adventure isn't something I've delved into very deeply. I've played Arkham Horror LCG once, Above & Below once, Apocrypha once, Warhammer Quest Adventure Card Game, Of Dreams & Shadows, Robinson Crusoe, Unicornus Knights, Lords of Hellas solo mode, and Champions of Midgard (if that counts. There was a funny debate on Dice Tower's Top 10 Adventure Games about it lol. I personally don't think it's an Adventure game, but can see the argument behind it). It's definitely a genre I'd like to explore more! ...no pun intended. I am very excited for Dawnshade and Trudvang Legends, as well as some others not mentioned (Etherfields, Waste Knights 2E, Maximum Apocalypse, Divinity Original Sin, etc).

Are you going to do a playthrough of the new journeys in middle earth expansion? I LOVE lotr but sadly I dont like any of the games.. Journeys was so annoying with finding the correct tiles every few minutes and we loved exploring but that just meant we would lose every scenario. Even worse, the campaign would just continue and you can't try again which just left a sour taste. So those two things combined made for an unenjoyable experience for me but I would still love to watch a playthrough of the new stuff. Also lotr lcg I don't enjoy the two handed solo play too much.

I love Arkham Horror!! I really want you to do some more plays of it! 1. Arkham Horror 2. Runebound 2nd ED 3. Fortune and Glory 4. Touch of Evil (my wifes favorite) 5. DragonFire 6. Arkham Horror 3rd ED 6. Secrets of the lost tomb 7. Massive Darkness 8. Zombicide Black Plague 9. D&D adventure Boardgames ( my kids love these)

Any thoughts on The Hunters 2114 A.D.? I'm also really looking forward to Oathsworn!

Mine would be Touch of evil Fortune and glory Arkham horror 2e/3e Eldritch Horror Journeys in middle earth 7th continent Aventuria ACG Arkham Horror LCG Runebound Tainted Grail Folklore Robinson Crusoe looks great and definitely want to try it someday. Mage Knight I have zero interest in the complexity of it just turns me off and I know I’d never get it to the table. Pathfinder I hate and think Aventuria is much more enjoyable. Overall s great list.

I thought Hexplore It would come up on the list or at least in the comments. I'm intrigued to try Hexplore It but it seems possibly overwhelming.

Great video as always. But I highly disagree on some choices here. ;) Number 7 belongs on the other list on spot 1. :D Your number 5 I found highly underdeveloped. It took forever to play, it was anticlimactic as it could get due to its weak game engine. The game gets slower and slower the longer you play. Terrible. Number 4 was a trainwreck for us as well. Very uninspired, repetitive, very generic in its theme and some Quests are horrificly bad (especially Quest 4). I would not recommend it at all. Dungeon Degenerates and Hexplore It (it will receive a campaign system as well) Fortune & Glory and of course Arkham 2 are really missing here. The upcoming Malhya was very promising when we played it in Essen last year.

I was surprised not to see Sword &, Sorcery on the list. Is that because you consider it a dungeon crawl rather than an adventure game?

"Doctor Solo" I need your help. I have xia legends of a drift system with forsaken expansion I have robinson crusoe and nemo's war love playing them solo. With this 3games in mind what solo game should I have next? Don't know what to play next 😏

Too bad that Unbreakable Bonds is so expensive on the secondary market. I cannot find it any other way. I had to get rid of my copy and bitterly regret it.

Most all of these board games also seemed like card games. I love strategy but I hate set up. I also can’t get people to dedicate 2 hours to one game. Is there something less involved but still challenging I can get my wife to play along with me?

There I was watching the video, feeling good about not buying a new game because of it. Played sone and didn’t like them, some too long for me, sone good games I got. Finally get to #1 and yeah nothing I really cared about. Decided to skip #1 as I tought I knew these games. Skipped right to the part you said you only build one deck in Arkham Horror. Now I have to give this game a try. I’m not interested in deck building for each scenario and it’s why I enjoy Marvel: Champions so much. So how do I start?

Great video, But can't agree on journey in middle earth, this game is one of the most overrated game ever. How bad and boring campaign it is ! A game based on a single and "only mechanic" ( "tests" ) that you are making tons of times, and wich are, after 5 quests turning completely boring and anoying ! The game drowned is ownself by having only that mechanic for the entire game... Campaign isn't epic at all, and ffg prefer making an other big 80$ box instead of bringing more content for the base instead of 3 miniatures and a shorter campaign making the game horribly expansive !... I mean, for that price.. just grab mageknight !!! Sidequests in journey in M.E are terrible and boring as basically... you're spending inspiration to gain inspiration back for talking to pigs... or some errant dogs... how epic is thaaat uh ? Yes minis are nice quality and the app is great, especially to tracking monsters health. but the games terribly lacks of epical moments ! Monsters are samy, just hp differs them really... They even got two sorts of shields.. that works just the same... even there ffg had no "inspiration" At all ! To me, the game should have an other mechanics or two, as runebound... Like, keeping the skills cards only for battles and brings some dice checks for explorations and tokens interractions... to have a bit of spice in the game... They also should should have done like star wars imperial assault and makes the players playing "fictive" characther only (such as beravor nor elena) and bring aragorn, gimli, nor legolas as "NPCs" ! That would have been much better on the story side ! But even there... ffg lacks inspiration.. This game is wayyyy too much expansive for his poor content, really. Just a Boring expansive empty game for fans that wanna play with their kids and even there, for that price, there is much, much better on the market ! I rather and much prefer mageknight or fallout + new california exp. Using bgg rules for solo as an exploration game, or runebound and robinson crusoe And i also much prefer, for story, mansions of madness 2d ed. Nor again, fallout that will soon receive his solo-coop expansion and brings much interresting sidequests ! Stay safe Cheers from belgium

dawnshade was probably one of the worst demos I've played through. (t was chock full of dexterity and gambling games, similar to mario party. The combat was also 1 dimensional and I was knocked out of the demo of it before taking a turn. it does have chips, those star wars Collectible dice game chunky dice, and neoprene mats. But I don't know who is paying $120+ to spin chips at each other like tops, of flipping them to land in little circles.
