perhaps the best top 10 video i've seen. i love the way you actually show the components while talking about each game and not just hold up the box. I even saw at least one game I had never heard of.
Thank you Steve!! Yeah I always found holding the box for a top 10 to be less then ideal as it does not show the game being played. Glad you liked it! Can I ask what game did you not know?
@@OneStopCoopShop that's why you know what you're talking about...you really go deep on these games!! Dungeon Alliance is on my top 3 along with mage knight and Lord of the Rings LCG
Thanks for the video! I immediately picked up a copy of Dungeon Alliance in retail when I saw this video. It's the perfect Mage Knight replacement game for me.
I got Gears of War on eBay recently (yes, it was expensive). Someone on BGG created the expansions cards as well, and I got those printed out. This game is BRUTAL yet fun. It feels like the videogame. I wish they made more for this game. It's amazing.
Gotta say I really enjoy your style and attitude. The "you might not like this if" segment is a very cool balance to your contagious enthusiasm. Well done :)
Sword & Sorcery is amazing. The theme may be a bit generic, but the mechanics elevate it to greatness. S&S, Mage Knight, and Eldritch Horror are my favorite solo games.
Great list, lots of games to play not much time to do it! My top 5 dungeon crawlers are: Descent 2ed Warhammer Quest ACG Imperial Assault Sword & Sorcery Gloomhaven
Thanks for this list. I guess I have to continue my journey through Sword&Sorcery soon and dust off my Legends of Drizzt^^ My Top 5 Dungeon Crawlers are 1. Gloomhaven 2. Decent 2 3. Zombicide Black Plaque 4. Mansions of Madness 2. Edition 5. Mice&Mystics
Good list. My top 5: 1.Gloomhaven 2: Myth (now if they straighten out all the Myth drama, it might move back to my #1), 3: Sword & Sorcery, 4: Fireteam Zero, 5: Shadows of Brimstone
No Games Workshop games? They make some of the best solo Dungeon Dives! Warhammer Quest, Advanced HeroQuest, DungeonQuest, WHQ: Silver Tower! All are fantastic!
My top 5 1 Gloomhaven -i totally consider it to be a DC 2 Stuffed Fables - limited? sure, but My wife loves it and its a heartwarming fun game like Mice & Mystics 3 Imperial Assault with App (so much SW goodness!) 4 One DeckDungeon- so much game in so small a box! 5 DungeonQuest- old school, brutal, and ruthless. but thematic and much beloved in my household. Great List Collin, my wallet does not thank you,but my brain and gaming heart does!
Thank you for the top 10 video :) I have only played Gloomhaven and Descent...so thy kinda win my top two by default. Now to get taxes done so I can add to my repertoire ;)
Great list Colin. So many wonderful dungeon crawlers. I knew you liked Dungeon Alliance but I didn’t realize just how much! Here’s my top 5 5: Unknown. This game is tragically underrated. Every time I play it I have a blast. 4: Descent 2nd Edition (with app). This is my most played crawler. So much variety. I also love the custom dice. 3: Shadows of Brimstone. The ultimate dice chucker and my favorite leveling system in a board game. Plus a unique theme for a crawler. 2: Sword and Sorcery. Best ai in my opinion. Also love the cool down system for the hero’s abilities. 1: Imperial Assault (with app). a. It’s Star Wars. b. It’s a dungeon crawler. c. It’s Star Wars d. The app integration is great. e. It’s Star Wars. f. Cool unique dice and tons of content (physical content. Not much app content yet, though I’m sure that will change) g. Did I mention it’s Star Wars? Thanks again for another great list. Looking forward to the adventure games one!
Whoa what an awesome list! Good to see someone else know Unknown! Sounds like I need to get descent and Imperial Assault to the table soon. Thanks so much for watching!!
Ha! First! For the sake of the Dungeon Alliance giveaway, here is my top 5 dungeon crawlers: 5. One Deck Dungeon 4. Mistfall (maybe it’s more of an adventure card game? Although it’s really mainly combat oriented) 3. Space Hulk: Death Angel 2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game (RIP) 1. Gloomhaven
Nice list! Mine would look something like this: 1. Gloomhaven 2. One Deck Dungeon 3. Shadows of Brimstone 4. Sword & Sorcery 5. Assault on Doomrock (maybe not a real dungeon crawler, but the combat is so unique and interesting I have to include it)
My top 5: 1) Mage knight 2) Descent 2nd ed. 3) Gears of war 4) Gloomhaven 5) Memento Mori and Middara(waiting for kickstarter delivery on the above 2) All amazing games
Great list! A few on there that I haven't tried, going to have to check them out. As always, appreciate the guidance on concepts that work/don't work for you, I find it very useful when making gaming choices! Thought I would throw out my top 5: 5 - Descent (2nd edition) - the old stalwart 4 - Shadows of Brimstone - heavy but enjoy the weird west theme 3 - Pathfinder Adventure Card Game - Mummy's Mask in particular 2 - Sword & Sorcery - don't own a copy yet, but so good 1 - Gloomhaven - can't keep it off the table
AWESOME list thanks for sharing!! I hope you get a copy of S&S you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Just got to get over the weird rules ha! :) Thanks for watching!
I had only "watched" this video by listening to the audio play while I was driving, I'd never seen the video part. Now that I have, I have to say, I love your shirt :-)
Great list! I didn’t even know about some of these games. Thanks for introducing me to some new games to look into. I will continue to cheer on the support for MYTH. The journeyman Kickstarter update for myth says the creators promised at least the printed materials by this summer. I’m looking forward too then. Great job as always!
Thanks for sharing the pros and cons. That helps a lot! 5 - Galaxy Defenders (nice minis, nice AI, I like the theme/story line a lot) 4 - Mice & Mystics (great minis and story) 3 - One Deck Dungeon (great dice mitigation and games don't take a lot of time) 2 - Level 7 Omega Protocol (nice minis, nice board, great AI) 1 - Thunderstone Quest (Thunderstone is one of my fav games, but mo' betta')
I am enjoying TQ solo, but I must admit I am bias. I like Thunderstone a lot and it may be my favorite solo game. There aren't official solo rules out yet for TQ, but when they do come out I think they will be similar to those of the basic game (i.e. the rules I'm playing by, which is high score.) But, who knows, maybe it won't be like that and you will either win or lose, which would be even better. We'll see. I like the game mechanic of TQ and find it enjoyable to add specific cards you want to add of those available (which change from game to game), go into the dungeon, come out and buff up, head back in again. Also, I really like the card art. Always have. I think I have every Thunderstone expansion. Also, I like the game play time. Not too long, not too short. Which means it's (you got it) just right! :-)
Totally makes sense!! I have Thunderstone Advance and really enjoy it. I just couldn't get myself to back a game that doesn't have official solo when there are so many others that do. But so glad you enjoy it!!! :)
Current Top 5: 5. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 4. Temple of Elemental Evil (D&D Adventure system) 3. Gloom of Kilforth / Sword & Sorcery (need to play more) 2. Descent 2nd EDition 1. Gloomhaven It might change when I get my hands on Middara, One Deck Dungeon and a ton of kickstarters that I backed :P
Have you heard about Space Cadets Away Missions? Although the theme is silly sci fi movies from the 60s, it has all the dungeon crawler characteristics. The overkill mechanics is quite unique and the 7 or so alien types with a different behavior each makes a good puzzle. Many items to loot and use, huge number of enemies to get rid of, 20 scenario in the box. Works well solo.
I have played this, just not solo as it was not my copy! It was fun and I think I would really enjoy it solo just hadn't tried it that way. Good thinking though, it is one that flies under the radar a bit I think!
Hello Colin ! Can't get tired enough of watching your videos. They are so informative, thanks for doing this ! Knowing that you like Dungeon Alliance a lot, I wonder if you enter their 2nd Kickstaster that is up now ! They added Playmats and Adventure Packs that look awesome. Maybe we will see a short playthrough here at One Stop Co-op Shop with one of the Adventure Packs ! :-) Take Care !
Wow thank you for such a nice compliment, I appreciate it! For DA I have backed it with full confidence of how amazing it will be. I mean c'mon it is Andrew Parks! Second I did not get anything pre-released to me so I won't be showing off anything additional until it comes to the backers. BUT I fully intend to do another playthrough once the adventure packs are out!
My Top 5 Dungeon Crawlers (at the moment), in no particular order 1 Gloomhaven 2 Space Cadets: Away Missions 3 One Deck Dungeon 4 Pathfinder ACG: Mummy's Mask 5 Zombicide: Black Plague/Green Horde This year will hopefully have new entries to displace my current favorites ;)
Helllo Coopshop I totally agree with your top two. Just bought sword and sorcery myself. Loved playing it with my two sons but it was a lot to remember correctly. Started a new campaign with my gaming group. Dungeon alliance looks like a very very fun game. Watched your playthrough and decided to try to get my hands on a copy. It does come out in retail soon but winning a game with a painted set would be awesome. Other games I like (for very diffenrent reasons): Arcadia quest (that's a dungeon isn't it?) Tomb (simple with outrageous combos if you can pull them off) Hero Quest (nostalgic reasons)
Top 5 dungeon crawler 1.- mage knight core game (my fav game and the one that make me enter board game hobby) 2.- mage knight lost legion (yes it took 2 numbers in my heart) 3.- masmorra dungeons of arcadia (that's why I want to try dungeon alliance looks like the hardcore version) 4.- gears of war board game (super fan of videogames but the board game captures the essence perfectly, dunno was out of print now I feel better bought it from start) 5.- legendary alien and predator ( the expansion and the harder modes + alien soldiers make it so fun to bad they don't think a lot the coordinate mechanics for solo
Top solo for me is Descent 2nd ed with Road to Legend App. Gloomhaven is great but I prefer it co-op, and Drizzt DnD is a fun 3rd place for less complexity.
Super cool list! Thanks a lot, Colin! :) Here's my top 5 solo dungeon crawlers: 5. Space Hulk: Death Angel (RIP) 4. Legend of Drizzt (it's the one I own) 3. Massive Darkness 2. A4 Quest 1. Mistfall: Heart of the Mists I suspect One Deck Dungeon and Apocalypse Chaos will make the list, but I only got them yesterday ;)
One Stop Co-op Shop it’s a print and play solo dungeon crawl. Simple, fast and with some lightweight decision making. It was just kickstarted as a printed version but it will remain free to download and print the current version. It’s a couple of pages you print and you dont even need scissors ;)
Nice list mine: 5. Descent w/app 4. Gears of War 3. One Deck Dungeon (first video I watched on your channel!) 2. Mice and Mystics 1. Mice and Mystics: Downwood Tales (technically an expansion, but it adds so much content that I consider it its own game). I really want to get Imperial Assault since I found out there's an app for it too.
I really like playing it solo, the combat mechanics are simple enough that I can run all the characters without constantly feeling like I'm forgetting an ability or a bonus (a problem I often have when running co-op dungeon crawlers solo) but there's still enough variety in the characters/abilities that I don't feel like I'm just doing the same thing over and over.
Stil have to play my copy of S&S and Max Apocalypse. Would also like to call out Aeon’s End but that more of a deckbuilder I guess. For now top 5: 5 - Decent 4 - Mistfall 3 - One Deck Dungeon 2 - Aventuria 1 - Dragonfire Yes, I like cards over dice at the moment :-)
It's great to see some love for Secrets of the Lost Tomb. It's not perfect, but it's a ton of fun. I'll go with Gloomhaven, Fireteam Zero, Mistfall, Lost Tomb and Descent, with an honorable mention to Arcane Quest 3 on the tablet.
Awesome list, Colin! We don't play many dungeon crawlers (even though I love them) but we have been playing a lot of Gloomhaven. Gears of War is one of my most wanted games. So hard to get hold of though but I loved the video game series. One day I'll get my chance!
Did not expect dungeon alliance to be number 1. Defo thought it would be sword and sorcery. Need to check this dungeon alliance out. My top 5 would be: 5. Descent 4. Zombiecide: Black Plague 3. Imperial Assault 2. Mage Knight 1. Sword and Sorcery
If I was making my list, I think that I'd have to include Gloomhaven because I play it solo: 1) Gloomhaven 2) Sword & Sorcery 3) Imperial Assault w/app 4) Descent w/app (I was going to fold this into IA, but they are different enough that they should be two separate entries) 5) Space Cadets: Away Missions I might also include Gloom of Kilforth, Too Many Bones, and Mansions of Madness, but I suspect you would consider those Adventure games and not Dungeon Crawlers.
Great list. Can't wait to try some of these out. I do think Sword and Sorcery is sort of in the same league as Gloomhaven when it comes to cooperative games that can also be played solo, but I do appreciate a list without Gloomhaven on it. By this point everyone has an opinion on Gloomhaven already and you've probably either played it and loved it. Played it and found it's not for you. Or just decided you're not going to try it.
I get you on gloomhaven! I hebe a group of 4 and we have played 30 plus times now and I love it. Just much prefer coop vs solo on that one. Thanks for watching!
Man that disclaimer in the beginning where you stated you never played Myth, Descent, and Perdition was painful to hear. You got to play those games! But thank you for being honest.
I know, I know I will get there. Can't do everything right. I really think some of those would be on this list too, but that is OK. gives some other games a chance to be looked at :) AND I will get to all three of those for sure!
No its completely fine. I love watching your channel. Plus by the end it was awesome to hear of great solo dungeon game crawlers, that werent Gloomaven or Descent. They were something different.
Alrighty so...top 4...couldnt think of a 5th... 4. Descent/Imperial assault 3. One deck dungeon 2. Perdition's Mouth - I think you are going to enjoy this. 1. Gloomhaven
My top 5 are these: 1. Gloomhaven 2. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 3. Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game 4. Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft 5. Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia
Hmm. Not sure that I have played enough dungeon crawlers to make a list. 1: V Commandos 2: Massive Darkness 3: Dungeon Twister (not sure it counts :) ) I've only just recently come to appreciate the dungeon crawling genre so it'll be awhile before I can add more to a list (still a lot of game to explore in the three)
HAHAHA Dungeon Twister nice!! I see you have V-Commandos, what a great game! I didn't include it because I felt it wasn't dungeon crawl-ey enough but still a great game. Thanks for sharing!
My top 5:1. Gloomhaven 2. Mage Knight Board Game 3. 7th Continent 4. The Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport 5. Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (Mummy's Mask best but all are great)
Would love to see you do a solo or co-op playthrough of Descent 2nd edition with either Redjak's variant or the app. Whilst I am currently playing and loving Gloomhaven, I personally find Descent 2e isn't that far behind it in greatness for different reasons-mainly as a better choice for anyone who hopes to get other people-especially family, kids or other non-gamers/newbies to get into Dungeon crawling :)
Great list. But Galaxy Defenders is missing and Lost tomb is by far the best crawling experience I had so far. So many great situations are created every Single game. It is Arkham Horror - the dungeon crawler. I cannot wait to get Lost Station to the table. :)
One Stop Co-op Shop If you love the AI in Sword & Sorcery you will be blown away how much deeper is Galaxy Defenders according to its tactical choices and how the (same) AI plays out thanks to the hex system.
Top 5 Mage Knight (By your definiiton of "one of the main factors is combat") Shadows of Brimstones Mice and Mystics D&D Dungeon (1st Edition was the best, Electronic version was also good) One Deck Dungeon
I am Happy to see Dead Men Tell no Tales on ur list. Love this game. Shadow of Brimstone is really Good too. Secrets of the lost Tomb is a Great game but I prefer play it as a 2 Player game. With more Player u have less actions and it get boring to wait so long only for 2 actions.
Totally agree on SotLT it is a great game, but if you are playing with a ton of people it can take a bit until it is your turn! Brimestone I just could not get into. Thanks for watching!
Hey Collin, that's a tough list since many games I love, like Arcadia Quest, havent been played solo or not played at all (like Sword and Sorcery T.T ). So here's my list : 1 - Gloomhaven (been playing the campaign solo since my group mostly like to play different games); 2 - Gears of war (this game is so much fun and really underrated in my opinion); 3 - Descent 2nd ed. (with the app. and the earlier solo/coop variant which were really cool too); 4 - D&D Wrath of Ashar. (got many of them but not tomb of annihilation, and now you convinced me to get it!); 5 - Massive Darkness (mostly played coop but loved playing it solo too) Bonus list lol : 6 - Mech Vs Minions 7 - Warhammer Adventure Card Game 8 - Zombicide Black Plague 9 - Masmorra 10 - One Deck Dungeon Other games like Runebound or Mage knight are mostly adventure games I believe which I'll put them your next top 10 hehe
Nice list thanks for sharing!! I debated putting Mechs on here, but decided I liked it way more co-op so I never play it solo. WaCG is another great one!! And yes your two for Adventure, you may see those in the next list. . . . :) :) :)
Great video! I think my top 5 would be: 5. The Dungeon of D 4. One Deck Dungeon 3. Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game 2. HeroQuest (mostly for nostalgia) 1. Gloomhaven (even though I've hardly scratched the surface of what it has to offer)
Brent Schleicher warhammer quest is a genius game. Gotnit a few months ago. Totally gutted they never supported the game with expansions and looks like games workshop aren't interested in making any either after taking the licence from FFG. Pure gutted man!
Check these fan-made options out. There's quite a bit there to keep you going. boardgamegeek.com/thread/1558032/fan-unoffical-content-summary-quests-campaigns-her
My top 5 solo dungeon crawlers: 1) Gloomhaven (I play it solo, though strictly it is not a solo game) 2) Mansions of Madness 3) Mage Knight 4) Gears of War 5) One Deck Dungeon
Thanks for the great video. I especially appreciate that you also pointed out some possible downsides, even though these are some of your favorite games. These kind of retrospectives are so much more valuable than the noncritical hyping of new releases and Kickstarter campaigns that are coming to dominate boardgame videos. I was wondering if you have played Assault on Doomrock? This game has a very fun and challenging tactical combat system. Fights are interspersed with quick playing overland segues where you make some important strategic choices. I love the heck out of this game, and it is my favorite solo experience.
Thanks for watching!! Yes I have played that one and it narrowly missed my list. A great game with a nice varation on your normal dungeon crawler. I am excited for their new one as well, the steampunk theme is fun!
My top 5: 5: Secrets of the Lost Tomb 4: Dead Men Tell No Tales 3: Descent 2nd edition 2: Gloomhaven 1: Star Wars: Imperial Assault Those are the ones I find most appealing!
Here is my list: 1. Folklore the Affliction 2. Fireteam Zero 3. Sword and Sorcery/Galaxy Defenders 4. Perdition's Mouth 5. Shadows of Brimstone Notable Others: Gloomhaven, Imperial Assault, Myth, Endure the Stars
It's the story and the streamlined battles when it comes to the misc fights. I like how for the road encounters, it's quick and easy to resolve. Then when you reach the main objective, the game becomes tactical. So it's like 2 games in one.
That's what I was looking for a long time two years ago. And that one thing make me feel I should born in that country like USA or UK. Many different interresting action and adventure board games, that don't available in East Europe.
Top 5 Dungeon Crawls 1. Mage Knight (or Gloomhaven) - Card Driven 2. Gloomhaven (or Mage Knight) :-) - Card Driven 3. Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift - Rondel/Card Driven 4. Gears of War - Card Driven 5. Super Fantasy: Ugly Snouts Assault - mitigatable dice driven (not really a top 5 material, but can't think of anything else hence I despise: "move x spaces, roll a bunch of dice, make no cognitive effort" games and don't like Myth's endless spawns) Food for thought: I find it interesting that the 2 "Euro" dungeon crawls have been "eurofied" by Mac Gerdts
GREAT list! You know I have played Super Fantasy, and was not a fan, but it sounds like I really need to get Perdition Mouth to the table. Mage Knight I saved for my other list hahahaha! Go Mac Gertds!!!!
HAHAHA for sure! Really? I thought it was kind of like Character regression right? And part of the game is dealing with that? Do you find the horror theme really strong? If so, I am worried I am not going to like it much. . . .
I can't help you with that, I'm a mechanism "man" (not to use wh... :-) ) so I'm not that into theme. And, horror themes don't quite come out in board games (in my opinion). That being said (and to contradict myself :) ) - that Stuffed Fables game looks scary (those head spiders are - brrrrrr). Can't say that I would use it with kids (as it's intended)
Got you, no worries! And it is funny you say that about Stuffed Fables. . . . I was planning on playing with my 4 yr old son. . . . You think it is too scary? Charles Carper is painting them for me too. . . .I guess we will see. Currently my son Connor has an invisible friend named Dedee, and he is a monster, but he is a nice monster that scares all the bad ones away! hahahahaha
