This video is much longer than my others because Snape's moments are much harder to sever from their respective scenes . . . so maybe this video should be named, "Top 10 Severus Snape Scenes."

If you ask me Severus was the real true tragic hero of this series. That "You have your mother's eyes scene" chokes me out to water works city. He met a girl, fell in love with her and then losses her to the guy who bullies him. Then he struggles himself to try to not bully their kid but he's only human dammit. But In the end somehow his love for Harry's mom was more then his hatred of Harry's dad which makes him an ultimate romantic and that unfortunately spells out his eventual Shakespeareanesque early demise. Ain't love grand?

Snape is a great character, but he didn’t love Lily. He was obsessed with her and was a grown man who took out his pain on children, nothing excuses that. We can appreciate the good things he did while acknowledging the bad. He wasn’t a villain but he wasn’t a hero either.
@elmacho1336
@elmacho1336 3 года назад
@@BadWolfSilence he absolutely did love lily. He was bullied by James all his life at Hogwarts, and then James married the love of his life. Yet he still protected Harry after all that time out of his love fore her. His spirit animal thingy is also a doe, same as hers, and when you love someone the spirit animal thingy changes to match theirs, we see this with Remus Lupin and Tonks. That, and he tried protecting her when Voldemort killed her but was too late. He was described by Hagrid, who saw Snape cradling her corpse, as broken and as if he had aged 100 years. Snape loved lily, and went on to love her son, even though his archenemy was his father.

He gave his entire life to the cause, in memory and bitter love for Lily, and in care for her son. He took on the monster everyone thought him to be, he played his role and never backed down. He witnessed the murder of his friends and loved ones, he saw them spit on him, hate him and he even murdered the only friend and mentor who ever knew the truth about him. Then finally, he died at the hands of the very enemy he sacrificed his life for in order to undo him, never to see and to know the end of the story. That, I would say, is a real hero.
@Ben6164
@Ben6164 2 года назад
I guess. He didn't care for Harry, though, he hated him - regardless of how the movies portrayed things, Snape wasn't doing it for him. He was doing it in memory of his (subjectively) unsavoury obsession toward Lily. That was the only reason he wasn't still working for Voldemort - he initially asked Dumbledore to keep merely Lily safe; not the boy in danger.

One thing that always struck me in particular about Dumbledore's death scene that other people don't seem to talk about much is that Dumbledore looked at Harry, than to Snape, and Snape seemed to be looking downwards like he was looking at Harry as well. Snape was essentially being asked to be hated by the wizard world, to give up his entire life in order to kill him and fulfill their secretive mission, and to kill his closest friend which would obviously make him hesitate.. but the one thing that no one ever talks about is that it was all being done in front of Harry. What if Snape was hesitant to do it in front of Harry because Harry would obviously than hate him and refuse to ever be around him again? He'd be giving up the last thing he had of Lily which was Harry, and she was the only thing he ever loved in the world. He always dealt with resentment from his peers but to give up the last thing he had of her would be especially devastating. Dumbledore may've been saying "please" in response to seeing Snape hesitating over Harry. I wonder if that was deliberate and thought of.

I still find Snape’s Memories to be one of the most powerful pieces of cinematography ever made. After 7 movies of seeing what Snape was, in just one instant, Harry fully realizes that all along, Snape looked after him just as much as Dumbledore did. Snape did it for Lily, as that would be what she wanted. Even when Dumbledore insisted on Harry’s death, Snape objected, till he knew nothing else could be done. Honorable to the very end.

But there we also learn why he dispises James and Harry looked just like his father. That was the first zime Harry learned his father was not all that spectacular, too. And the death scene when Snape tells Harry what so many people have told him before, that he has his mothers eyes, Harry realizes for the first time that Snape knew his mother, too.

@@Bamboule05 to me the one scene I wished they filmed was Snape actually being mad at dumbledore in the big flash black scene in dealthy hallows part 2 like how it was in the book. Something I realized would have changed the series immensely 1) If Dumbledore told Harry about all the secrets he kept. 2) If Harry trusted Snape from the start. Think about not only, all the lives that would have been saved, but how much easier it would have been for Harry and everyone if they knew Snape wasn't a bad guy.
@reedsmithpryor4377
@reedsmithpryor4377 2 года назад
Dumbledore was Snape’s key back to salvation. Harry was his last temptation. But Lily, the woman who he loved more than anything, never knew how he felt. He could only demonstrate how much he cared for her through his loyalty to those two men. The series is as much a coming of age story for Snape as it is Harry.

As far as I know, after Alan passed away people asked JK to reveal the piece of information she had shared with him about Snape, and apparently she told him ”what was behind the word ’always”. In other words I think she let him know about Snape’s undying love for Lily so he could adapt his acting to it, and the directors and other actors just had to go with it.
