@@eraldorh A country literally bombed to bits...France and Britain weren‘t hit as hard. The marshall aid was only a bump start. The clever governing of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and minister for the economy Ludwig Erhardt brought West Germany back on track. The combination of Capitalism and Socialism let to a very attractive market, a market which was flexible and competitive yet still healthy and fair towards the common worker. This caused Germany‘s economy to surge. The GDP went up by 90%, investment by 110% and unemployment went down to 0.9%. This is the already mentioned Wirtschaftswunder (economic miracle) and this was the key factor which brought Germany back on track. Also, the Mittelstand helped to fuel the economy. Mittelstand means essentially small/medium sized family owned businesses which often strive more towards quality (made in Germany) instead of quantity. Due to their size and often specific fields, they were difficult to get out of business and so only fuelled the economy even more. 50% of Germany’s economy is still made up by the Mittelstand. The Marshall aid was only a small part of Germany‘s economic success.

To be fair, they keep doing it to themselves, I'd rather the stability we have in the UK, than a flip flop economy leading to crazy extremes (even if the decline in the UK hurts man). Give us a few years out of the EU and I think we'll overtake Germany once again ;) I expect explosive growth actually, but we will decline at first, the growth will lead to many other nations becoming envious and leaving the EU as well. I wouldn't count on China maintaining their trajectory, the CCP are not long for this world, dictatorships never last/are not stable, they only have had the growth they've had because they adopted aspects of the free market and capitalism and are leeching off the West (particularly the USA), but the people will eventually want the freedom the West has enjoyed for centuries. I didn't realise Japan had declined so much btw. The USA are about to have some crazy inflation, but with a changing of leadership ;) they will cement their place as the dominant power for at least a few more decades. The British Empire should be around double the GDP at the beginning btw, they missed out our colonies...

The USA was in a massively beneficial position throughout the 20th century. They were in a position such that they could participate in both world wars without having their economy complete shat on. The US could just ramp up its industrial capacity without concern for having tanks blitzkrieg across it. That, plus having a capitalist economic system which is just objectively better than what most other countries had at the time, and having access to vast reserves of space and natural resources, contributed to US dominance of the global economy. Even today, the United States still comprises about a quarter of the global economy and is staying steady there with relatively stable growth, covid being in the long term only a minor speed bump

Death of the British Empire 1991 is what truly solidified their downfall. If Britain had kept Hong Kong they would have had a major trading hub in Asia which would allow them to have a lot of influence in the growing markets of Japan, China, and India going into the 21st century. Japan is not isolated since the 1850s and was reworked by the US and UK as a Pacific trade hub (why the USN sailed into Tokyo Bay in the 1850s to set them up as a trade port for the planned Transcontinental and Trans-siberian RR). Japan started to grow quickly through the 50s because the industrial society was being recreated with US models snd consultants like Demmings. As their plants were fresh and free of pre WWII antiquity, by the 70s they really broke out. The same thing happened to Red China. In the 90s western (mostly US) industrialists started to offshore there, then the Japanese. They took that model and a society reworked after the T Square event and reworked it into True Actualism/National Corporatism. The Italians used to call that Fascism. Germany started to grow snd outpace the UK after 1926 when the US (Dawes Plan) loaned thrm money. They were doing well till 1929... But you see how fast they grew under Hitler. Again True Actualusm/National Corporatism works in the short haul, but post colonial forcible expansion leads to war. War will economically gut a Fascist or Communist nation quickly. Note the US with the small central government and freer markets doesn't ever seem to really be phased by war or peace. It quickly switches gears, as the committee style economies of socialism and monarchies get trounced in rapid change... Like wars. Consider my words and look at this video again.

It is amazing how Poland after being 123 years out of the map reached top10 GPD's after WWI and just before WWII.

The explanation of that is simple, guess which others' territories Poland occupied in exactly the said period of time?

@Imfphas20
@Imfphas20 2 года назад
@E.S. That's counter factual. Territorial gains were made well over ten years earlier. You would have seen a catapult sooner. Poland was carefully governed at the time despite the very difficult task it was to do so.
@e.s.6275
@e.s.6275 2 года назад
@@Imfphas20 my answer was based on a time period, I quote, "after WWI and just before WWII". That's when Poland gained independence from RE, and immediately itself occupied parts of other nations. Then, we all know what happened in 1939.

Bro Japan nearly caught up with the US. The Japanese economy has been stagnate unfortunately but was actually named an emerging superpower In the 80s because of its fascinating growth. And then housing crisis occurred In the 90s... Now it's China that is emerging as a superpower. I think this one will actually surpass the US given its crazy growth in the past decade. AUKUS was formed because they're scared of China's influence. It's like a whole cold war is happening all over again
