It's weird because a lot of the guys high on his list are boom or bust, very few "safe" picks and yet they passed on Mahomes who was seen as similar boom or bust potential. He even explained in a different video that the staff thought Trubisky was the "higher floor" pick at the time.
@akireon5440

This guy... He was part of a staff that traded every 1st round pick because they drafted nothing but busts, then he had the gall to say "The salary cap doesn't matter you just push it off to the next staff"... Exactly what they did in Chicago when he was there. Then he bitched about Fields not having a supporting cast when Poles had to do exactly what he said he would have to do and fix the mess they made. I cannot listen to a damn thing he says.

100%, just what I was thinking. This is why he doesn’t have a job. He also said Edge Rushers were easy to draft, they are not, he cherry picked one draft as an example. He didn’t mention all the edge rushers out of the league in 3 years. Or that for him to get an edge he traded for Mack, or how Floyd was a bust here, and turned into an average player later. All drafts have their own flavor, sometimes it’s a mixed bag, sometimes you get the 2011 class which was an unbelievable class of talent. And sometimes you get the 2015 class. In 2011 Aldo Smith went before JJ Watt, Ryan Kerrigan, Cam Hayward, Robert Quinn, and Cam Jordan. I would call a huge mistake. He Compares Verse to Sweat, that’s a decent Comparison, except, Sweat is much bigger, much longer, and he’s faster, Sweat has Turner speed. Sweat was also 3 years younger than Verse when he was drafted. He also had better bend. To be Clear, Montez ran a 4.41 at almost 6’6, 260. With almost 36 inch arms. Even with all his amazing traits, he went 26th. He is probably the 3rd best edge from his Class. That Class was way better than this one. He’s not gonna be as good as Sweat, but hey draft him 17 picks higher. The only reason he is mocked high is it’s a thin edge class, and team need. He wouldn’t even be a first round pick in a good edge class. If he was in Sweats class, nobody is taking him over Sweat. Not a chance.

Picks a good draft class, but doesn't pick the 2021 draft class as it doesn't fit the narrative. Top 10 that year QB, QB, QB, TE, WR, WR, OT, CB, CB, WR....Then Fields went at 11, not a single pass rusher in the top 10 ( Micah Parsons dropped to 12). So that season, five QB's went in the top 15, three WR's and a TE in the top 10, only four defensive players and one pass rusher in the top 16. Those three wide receivers are all pretty good too and the league knew it, wouldn't let them drop too far. This years top receivers could actually end up being better. Chase, Waddle and Smith are all great receivers and were straight out the door. Harrison Jr, Nabers and Odunze could do the same thing.

Might have been an allusion to Adonai Mitchell. Josh ranked him Top 5 on the basis of talent, but acknowledged most teams wouldn't have him nearly that high, since the other Top 3 WR options are cleaner-character players. Don't know anything about Mitchell other than that, though. Just what i got from the pod. Lucas seems to think the player on the field has a super high ceiling, so guessing that makes him the '4th receiver.'

I don't have as much hate for Josh Lucas as some. But the way he talks about JC Latham is a huge reason why I'm so glad he's not in the room now. And maybe someone exists on Poles staff now who has the same view.. but I really dislike these kind of evaluations. "He has all the tools, all the traits. If he figures it out.. watch out." Okay but what if he doesn't "figure it out." There are literally 4 other OTs in this draft I'd rather have than Latham and it's specifically bc of what Josh is saying. If you have all these tools and traits and played for Alabama of all places.. why is ur awareness so poor? I've seen Latham reps where he gets absolutely destroyed. They were saying great things about Evan Neal too. I'm cool on Latham. I don't need the tackle who's the most physically gifted. Give me the guy who's the smartest.. the guy who has a reason for everything he does and can tell you exactly why he does what he does. That has staying power in this league. And also... Something tells me that Josh is one of those guys who would gladly take JC Latham at 9, even though he's like the 4th or 5th rated lineman and could probably be had in the early 20s.

Easiest defense of the Trubisky vs Mahomes misevaluation is that only two teams were convicted in Mahomes. And even then, if the Chiefs/Saints were "smart" enough to project him as a potential GOAT QB, they'd have traded up to 1.01 to get him. QB drafting is a crapshoot we all know it, but a lot of folks forget it when they put fanatic hind-sight goggles on. I still learn more from Lucas about the nuances of the front office than anyone else out there. Mike Tannenbaum on ESPN? Ehh no thanks

@@jordanbibby6567 Totally agree that the original comment by the above dude was not constructive whatsoever, and just a nasty unwarranted attack. I like Hoge and Lucas brings a unique insight on many things scouting and Bears. On a bit of a tangent, I will say, however, that the idea of "if you don't like it, don't watch" basically removes any accountability or avenue for critical (even negative) feedback, basically saying "we only accept positive feedback for our product". (again, on a tangent) In the case or Carm, as I said, I can no longer watch CHGO because I (and possibly many others) can't take him. If there were a way for me to couch that in a positive way so that CHGO would know what some in their audience actually sincerely think, then that would probably be useful feedback for them. Rather than "everything is great, and the numbers are great, so F you if you don't like it". Critical feedback -even if not couched eloquently - is essential for audience facing product to improve.
@jordanbibby6567
@jordanbibby6567 3 месяца назад
@@AkamatsuCreative everything that you put in quotation are not things that I actually said lol. My point is that there is something more constructive that comparing a human to a donkey. And what do you expect them to do with Carm? Fire him? Shuffle him into another podcast? As long as CHGO Bears continues to grow I do not anticipate that happening. Also, as soon as you stoop to the depths of name-calling, the powers that be are not going to take that feedback into consideration. And to think that your suggestions have any sway in what management decides is a pretty bold take
