Okay, I dont mind the comedians who actually know football and came to talk about football. The reason comedians are here is becuase they're good storytellers. But get that German guy off I cannot stand him
I know everyone says this but I’m so tired of the “comedians” who know nothing about football ruining these top 10 lists. The old lists use to give me goosebumps and get me pumped for football now they’re just one big joke.
Why is that tackle so impressive to people? It was a routine tackle. Anyone linebacker would’ve wrapped Dyson up. And he initiated the hit at the 3 yard line. Dyson had no momentum. It wasn’t even close.
It made me remember that three years earlier the Giants had a better goal line stand vs the Broncos, if you remember the Broncos were at the goal-line leading 10-7, Carl Banks, LT, and Harry Carson made big time tackles, it totally changed the game, Giants won the Super Bowl in the second half.
@@ChadFarthouse-h8r they had a goal line stance 2x vs Denver that season. The 1st in Denver where Gary Reasons gets credit for THE HIT and they did it again in SB 21
I’m with that Mexican guy - I read those words, and in my head it plays out like the announcer. It’s like seeing a ‘Win, Baby, Win’ sign and all I can hear is Al Davis’s lungs after two packs of Maverick cigarettes
Should have included the 1969 Kansas City Chiefs stuffing Joe Namath and the Jets in the playoffs. A goal line stand later in the game holding them to a field goal in a low scoring game, on their way to a 13-6 win and eventually winning the Superbowl behind an all time great defense.
What people forget or don't know is that San Francisco's defense was even more dominant than their offense. They were #1 in the league in '81 and '84. In fact - in the 1984 playoffs the D gave up 1 TD. Just one. In Montana's last 3 NFCCs the Niner D gave up a TOTAL of 6 points - an average of 2 per game. So all Joe & Co. needed was to average a FG to win 3 NFC Championships. In Montana's nine full seasons in San Fran his D was Top five all 9 years. The Niners defense was #1 in the league in '81 and '84. In fact - in the 1984 playoffs the D gave up 1 TD. Just one. Unbelievable. In the 1988 playoffs the San Francisco defense gave up ZERO touchdowns. Even more unbelievable. In the 1989 playoffs they gave up 1 garbage time TD to the Vikings when the score was 41-6 and one garbage time TD to the Broncos when the score was 41-3. So in those 3 Super Bowl runs the 49ers defense gave up one meaningful TD. Incredible.
In 1989, part of that was the offense though: 1989 49ers time of possession: 39:48 to 20:12 29 first downs (to only 9) 44 rushes for 179 yards 31 passes for 268 yards But yeah, that was one of the best overall teams ever. The other two NFCC games were more balanced in time of possession. In 1984 the 49ers actually lost the time of possession battle but still shut out the Bears. However, they ran 10 more plays.
One that should be high on the list occurred on Monday night between Washington and Dallas back in 1978 when their rivalry was at its most intense level. The teams were playing for the division lead. The teams had the league's #1 and #2 offenses but the defenses played at a seemingly superhuman level keeping the final score down to 9-5. Don't let the low score fool you; this game had as much thrills and drama as any game could possibly have. In the 3rd quarter with Washington up 6-0, Dallas had the ball (after a 5 yard offsides penalty) for a 1st and 5 at the Washington 7 yard line. On first down, Tony Dorsett ran it for two yards. On second down, Robert Newhouse ran it for two yards. On third down, Tony Dorsett picked up one yard for a first down at the two. On first down, Dallas completed a short pass to Preston Pearson in the right flats and was tackled at the one. On second down, Tony Dorsett ran it and was met in the hole at the line of scrimmage by Harold McClinton for no gain. On third down, Dallas tried running it with Dorsett again and Harold McClinton jumped into the hole stopping Dorsett for a 1 yard loss. On 4th down, Dallas simply settled for a field goal to cut the lead to 6-3. All told, Dallas, with the league's #1 offense, had 7 plays inside the seven and 4 plays inside the two, and only managed a field goal.
Anyone wanna tell us why NFL films thought it would be a good idea to include the German "party pooper" guy in the commentary? This isn't for futbol fans...
Get rid of these damn comedians who don't know as much about the NFL as other people who used to be on did. Also, pretty good list. Glad Super Bowl 49 isn't on here because it was a bad play call and Atlanta Philadelphia 2018 because that was an offensive collapse
The Sabols are spinning in their graves over this. NFL Films used to be Oscar worthy (if they ever gave Oscars to sports highlight films). I could understand having 1 comedian on here to keep things light, but don't fill your whole show with them. This isn't Just for Laughs.
As a Seahawks fan, I was just waiting for that gut wrenching cringe at #1 😖… unbelievable that it it didn’t make the list …still more unbelievable than they didn’t hand it on off Marshawn 😫 One of the more painful sport losses I’ve ever felt
0:00 The 2001 Eagles-49ers game. 2:14 The 2010 AFC Championship. 5:16 The 1989 Giants-Broncos game (The Other Hit!) 7:47 The Greatest Game Ever Played. 10:07 The 1994 AFC Championship. 13:18 Super Bowl XXVII. 16:08 Super Bowl XLVII. 19:24 The One-Yard War! 22:55 The 1966 NFL Championship. 26:19 Super Bowl XVI.
I'm a diehard Eagles fan but even I'll admit that these stops had more to do with the ineptness of the Falcons offense than the fortitude of the Eagles defense.
NFL Films Top 10s in a nutshell: "Number 10!!!!! This should be number one!!!!" "Way too high on the list...." "Not even top 10 on their own team" "This is at least in the top 5"
I am really glad that NFL Films interviewed more broadcasters and actual past players in this episode instead of mostly comedians in the past year (there were still a few comedians, but far less in this one)
If they want to bring a comedian into one of these lists, they should ask Bill Buir to come in because he's actually a football fan that's not just a casual fan.
Initially I thought the same thing. However, Borg is actually pretty funny, you should search up a video of him and Kobe. Those 2 hit it off real well. It is his persona to say weird stuff
@@oMaJoJ Love his voice and that orchestra music behind it. Made everything sound like the most important thing you'll ever watch. Today's NFL films just don't have that kind of class anymore. The moment when the drum machine kicks in interrupting all that awesome is so jarring, but a perfect example of the difference between then and now.
They probably use comedians to give us a view of ordinary fans( just like us) had going through their minds at the time. Plus they’re comedians so they’re great story tellers.
On MNF in 1970 or 1971, the Vikings stuffed the Rams on four straight downs from the one just before time ran out in the first half, although I forgot who won the game. A very typical outcome in that era. Then in 1976, the Vikes did it again during the regular season to LA, so the Rams decided to play it safe in the Conference Title Game, going for a FG, which was blocked for a 90 yard TD return by Bobby Bryant.
I’d like to have seen Super Bowl 21’s Goal-line stand. I know the Broncos didn’t go for it on 4th Down, but they were about to go up 17-7, and ended up getting zilch. On 4th down, their kicker missed the shortest FG attempting SB history. Another Giant favorite of mine was week 3 of the 2007 season against the Redskins. We were about to go 0-3 and held them from tying the score on 4 plays. Without that, we probably don’t win the SB in either that season or 2011.
I was expecting to see that one. It's up there with the most important moments in NFL history because it pretty much led the Patriots to their second title which proved their first wasn't a fluke, which legitimised them as a possible dynasty which they have become
There not really your typical goal line stand on the Malcom Butler one that was only 2 plays and on that rams titans game they weren't on the 1 yard line or something there both iconic but not a top 10 goal line stand
A game with all the NFC marbles on play, 2 powerful yet injured teams, a team often tormented by having to play there, a near 1:1 script to SB 16 with the same scoreline and some classic Seahawk one-yard prolapse.
I knew SB XVI would be number one. I remember watching that when I was ten years old, the second SB I ever watched, and as a Bengals fan I was crushed. But they put up a hell of a fight in that game.
The fact you don’t have the patriots to go line stances the one in the Super Bowl against Seattle should be number one everywhere and the one against the Colts should also be in the top 10
SterlingArcher85 - That’s what I was thinking when I first saw this episode live, but remember the Jets kicked the field goal on 4th down. So it’s exempt from this list. They mentioned it on Best of the Rest though, so that’s pretty cool. King Of Random - It’s still part of the NFL dude. And a well known goal line stand by people who actually care about the history of the sport. Also the list had the Greatest Game Ever Played from 1958 at number 7, and the 1966 NFL Championship Game at number 2, so pointing out the year would make even less sense. Tom Brady Shady #CheatSquad#KissMeLikeMySon#WOAT - I can’t speak for SterlingArcher personally, but age doesn’t have much to do with it. I’m 19 years old and was wondering the same thing. You don’t have to have lived through history to show an interest in history.
@Harry Engel It went three downs but forced the Jets to kick a field goal in a game the Chiefs narrowly won in a defensive struggle, en route to winning Superbowl 4. It was definitely a difficult goal line stand being in the playoffs and going against a highly touted QB Joe Namath who had just won the Superbowl the season before.
Are we really going to ignore Crabtree getting held at the goal-line and the ball spot was the 5-yard line, meaning that the refs missed an OBVIOUS holding call?
* Patriots vs Seahawks SB wasn't good enough? * Also.. wasn't the Rams-Titans SB a goal line stop also? * I can also think of a Steeler game vs the Broncos back in 1979 or 1980 where the Steelers stopped Denver on 4 tries as time expired... that game decided who played where the next week. Which... turned out to be Steelers and Broncos again!
If Humphrey doesn't jump he would've ran right through Reasons on that Giants v broncos game! Lucky for us he didnt though and he turned an easy TD into one of the most iconic plays in history!
Greatest goal line stand in NFL history Super Bowl XVI Cincinnati Bengals vs San Francisco 49ers it was the most exciting the same one 1978 Sugar Bowl Penn State vs Alabama
First they crammed female commentators down our throat, now it's comedians. I can't sit through these anymore. I turned it off at that German guy talking about a Randy Johnson. Get funny comedians, at least. These nobodies have mad uncle jokes.
I've been a NFL fan for over 25 years. I've seen a lot of these NFL films Top Tens, and football content from other YT creators. I'm amazed that before this video I had never heard of or seen The Hit.
