We list the top 10 most expensive stadiums in the world as of 2021. The prices have been adjusted for inflation and currency has been converted, so the ranking might not be accurate after a while. Thanks for watching!
Levi's stadium is the worst "value" stadium. I live 10 miles from the stadium and the main issue is that the land and construction cost here in the Bay Area is so high. That and the team focused so much of their budget into that tower of luxury suites and club area seats. Leaving the exterior and the general seating looking plain and soulless
I remember being from the UK that after Wembley opened it became a bit of a running joke how bad the pitch was. The FA spent money on relaying the pitch a number of times and when that didn't work. They literally dug the entire pitch up and put a Desso Grassmaster hybrid pitch in. Everyone was like they spent all that money on a stadium and the most important part of it the pitch was worse than a non league football stadium.
You left out Montreal's Olympic Stadium, aka The Big Owe. 1,990 percent over budget, its final cost to Montrealers was just over CDN$3.1bn, or about USD$2.5bn.
Also Levi stadium is built next to an amusement park California's great America. The city doesn't let it operate on game days (no sending the kids there while you catch a game)
MetLife Stadium: The success of that building alone gives it great value. The proven grand comfort fans love will keep it successful. LED home team lights gives it a duel identity. It's the most underrated venue in the U.S.
Olymic Stadium in Montreal cost CA$1.4 billion ... in the 1970s unfinished, with roof completed later...that's CA$3 billion to CA$4 billion US$2.3 billion to US$3 billion..the Quebec government finished paying it off 30 years after the 1976 Olympics
You say it wasn't a wayward hooligan who shot the old Spurs cockerel, but I would say that Paul Gascoigne is definitely a wayward hooligan, he just happened to be a hooligan who could play football well.
Wow #10 stadium i thought it was just a generic stadium in fifa 21 on fut but its actually real and cool looking and this is y I like fifa it always has unique and quirky stadiums
MetLife is ugly from the outside but not that bad inside. It's utilitarian but the sightlines are good and that's what really matters. The cost is hard to fathom until you see some of the VIP areas, which I've managed to get into for small events, but not actual NFL games. In the end it's pretty clear that's where all the money went. I would contrast that with Yankee Stadium, which also had most of the money go to maximizing the VIP experience but which actually has worse sightlines for general seating than the old stadium.
SoFi Stadium didn't cost $5.5 billion. That's the entire 350 development cost. It's probably $2 billon of the budget for the entire development. The new headquarters for NFL studios is included in that development.
sofi was surprisingly 100% privately financed which is good considering how hard it is to get taxpayer money to go towards any public developments here in LA
