I may do a follow up video as there were at least 10 more good ones I could have included in this list. Let me know if the Smelly Army would like this?
I don't care if the women suddenly wanted us to smell like horse shit, I would buy it by the case!! I have a head on me like an onion and a face only a mother could love, so I need ALL the help I can get with the ladies!! OH snap...I'm married....ya, piss on the sweet scents!! lol
I so appreciate this list. Thank You. Masculinity seems to be on a downward spiral these days. It's inspiring to see examples of truly masculine scents as opposed to the gynocentric "unisex" fragrances that have buried the market in recent years.
Fantastic review !! I'm so happy that "my" Bentley for men Intense is in your list !!! It is definitely in my top 10 of my personal collection even if I don't wear it that much
Excellent sir! You are such a fluent talker. Great knowledge and constantly improving. Eau Sauvage is one of my top masculines and I was swayed into that one by an old video of yours. Bentley Intense is a corker too and I actually discovered that one for myself quite a while ago. Keep it up!
You are definately one of the best reviewers out there! You know the ins and outs of every single fragrance you discuss. Too bad you haven't fully embraced the masculine perfection that is Lapidus Pour Homme yet, but it seems you are slowly getting there ;) Great list (except for Aramis, that to my nose smells so dated and old man-ish in a bad way). Looking forward to more lists from you soon.
As a 23 year old, I love old school "masculine" fragrances but the women by age hate them. If I go out with my lady wearing something typical... Bleu de Chanel, Dylan Blue, Aventus etc. she says I smell sexy. However if I go out wearing Aramis or Brut she says I smell like her grandfather. We need a perfume house to find something that's a great balance of masculinity and youthfullness for us younger fellas.
M. S. BitEth That was quite a rant. I do think there are some nice sweeter smelling men’s fragrances out there like Ultra Male, One Million Prive, Pure Havanne, and Tom Ford Noir Extreme but trying to sell men cupcake scents is pushing it way too far. Also, house of silage fragrances are way overpriced and a HUGE waste of money. I don’t understand people who are okay with dropping over $300 on a fragrance.
I'll always assert the stand-by that you wear what you like, trends be damned. This idea of smelling like "an old man" is entirely arbitrary (same with the idea that wearing classic powerhouse fragrances make you a "real man", even though I love them).
Great video. I own the final choice Bentley Intense. Surprisingly it smells a lot like a fragrance Imagine Scents recommended called Something Wild from Derek Lam Crosby 10, which is marketed for women. The openings are different but after several seconds they smell almost identical.
Some fantastic fragrance choices here.I have most of them, all beauties.( I get a little puzzled by the male/female distinctions in perfumery and tend to think we're shoved into areas so I just wear what I like) - I would have added Azzaro Pour Homme and Knize 10. - May I suggest a video on the best 'feminines' for men ? - Thanks Smelly.
Aramis! I bought that on vacation last year! im 28! its my favorite and my wife likes it allot too which im happy about! Very classy ! so happy to see that!
Nice list. I'm a pretty big fan of most of the ones you've listed. My list would be somewhat different, which would include Cartier Santos, VC&A Pour Homme, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme (vintage) and perhaps Oud Palao
Really good video! Nice picks. Would actually be interested in a list broken down by decades. Your opinion on the best from each decade would make a great series.
Dan, I'm a new subscriber and I really like your reviewing style, keep up the great work. I have both Givenchy Gentleman vintage 90's and 70''s version and Antaeus new version. Imo the most manly of them all. But a great list. If you've never smelled the 70' a version of Givenchy Gentleman, you must as it's so hardcore masculinity, animalic. It should be illegal, lol.
Some frags I thought of while watching this was definitely Drakkar Noir and Preferred Stock by Coty. Idk if you've ever smelled PS but I used to wear it alot and loved it.
Bentley Intense is the only one I've owned, and it's definitely uber masculine, the boozy note is literally intoxicating. and it lasts forever and a day, can't beat it.
Bentley Intense......a must have masculine, classy, gentleman's scent for the autumn and winter months. Not a panty dropper, but a mature and sophisticated fragrance. In the future, I believe this fragrance will be coveted as a classic.
Glad you mentioned actually masculine colognes and not fragrances of today that smell like woman perfume with added ambroxan and random synthetic aromatic notes. I really like several of these like the Givenchy Gentleman, Polo green, Antaeus, etc
Hawthorn is a beautiful shrub or small tree that grows in the Northern Hemisphere. Hawthorn flowers smell very strong, pleasantly sweet from a distance. Just to help out.:)
I have 1997 version and 2017 version of Fahrenheit. The 1997 bottle went sour so I can’t compare it precisely to the newer one. However, I can still tell that the older one has a lot thicker gasoline accord along with darker, woodier and sharper scent profile. I loved the original back then, but I prefer the current formulation to the one from the 90s.
I was with you until Bentley Intense. I blind bought that and think it's horrible. But I do think I'll buy Polo Green as I remember that magical scent from high school.
Hi Dan, Great review, Have you tried Jacques Fath Pour l 'Homme, Its very similar to Bentley intense. But Sweeter, And there's more vanilla in it. More of everyday scent, Date, and Signature scent. Its not easy to get hold of, But if you can, Get some, Kevin Samuels does quite a few reviews on it. Absolutely beautiful.
Go smell the current version but make sure you do so on an empty stomach! You don't want to have just eaten when you get a whiff of the garbage that now passes for it.
of all thoose 10, which would you recommend to a 21 year old student that loves to hit the clubs in the weekends, and attenting lectures during the week :)
hi there Mr smelly, another great video, again some really interesting fragrances, the brut frag back in the day was advertised by a boxer called Henry Cooper, and his catch word was splash it all over the, and that was the problem everyone put far to much on soooo overpowering put me off for ever, aramis great if you are light on the trigger, a real classic, still learning to love kouros, but getting there, definitely going to be getting the Bentley sounds so good, thanks Mr smelly absolutely brilliant frags great talking point
Mr. Smelly - I mentioned this to you in one of the FB groups. The Special Reserve version you have is made by Idelle Labs/Helen of Troy. They also issue the 757 ml (25.6 oz) Brut cologne in the glass bottle on steroids found here: www.notino.co.uk/faberge/brut-cologne-water-for-men/ It's cheaper in the USA at about $28. I picked it up during one of Target .com's amazing year end sales for about $14 (£10)! The bottle looks so beautiful and towers above everything else. I actually don't even want to use it for that reason. I'm thinking of getting a backup bottle just to use before it can't be found for sale anymore. Brutworld USA told me it's based on the original Faberge formula, but I have a feeeling it's nearly the same as Special Reserve. I get a slightly more synthetic opening with Speical Reserve but the dry downs are similar. In the USA, Joe Namath was the spokesman for Brut around the time Henry Cooper advertised it in the UK. Listen to the tag line at the end of this commercial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zMOdn-8zK-Y.html This is Henry Cooper for Brut ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DMd88QgkxqU.html The Unilever version issued in the UK today is based on Brut 33, a much weaker version of Brut issued by Faberge in 1968. Some say it was called Brut 33 because it has one third of the fragrance oils that are in the original version.
I think ima blind buy Bentley Intense. I'd sample it but I can't find a shop in Australia that stocks it. Based on the reviews I think I'll like it. I do tend to go for sweeter scents (think things like Code Profumo, 1 Million Prive, Ultra Male etc) but I need something a little more manly and I reckon this could be the one I'm looking for.
Just found an old bottle of Kouros from my closet..it still had some left, got it in mid 80´s hahah, it was a girl magnet in 86-90 when i was young and clubbing a lot..always i mean always ladies putted their hand on my shoulder(shoulder topping) and told me" You smell so good!" Other one that got same reaction from girls was Boss number 1. Now when i smell it..its just time travel back... damn my daughter is same age now i was then. Greetings from Finland, I love ur channel!
Nice list mate. Aramis is a real sleeper, totally unique to my nose. For 30 or older in my opinion. I own Kouros Fraicheur and I still need to be careful on the trigger. Rive Gauche' is super clean and fresh, just like a wet shave.
I first smelled it on a guy when I was babysitting. I must have been about 14 (probably technically illegal now, but it was 25 years ago or more). I bought some but never wore it as I realised this is not a pubescent boy's cologne, this is a MAN's cologne. To me it has a real 'alpha' vibe to it, a sort of no nonsense leathery spice. Tuscany is another strongly masculine fragrance from the same company as I recall.
Thinking way back ... Polo green was THE scent for us college guys way back in 79...my dad had kouros in the early 80's ...a bit too much for me but I did buy Anateus in 82 for clubbing. My best cologne in those days was Calvin. No one wore it. A complex smell that changed by the minute. I bought a bottle on the relaunch in the.90's...nope..guess I wanted something a bit more subtle. For the warm weather..Armani Pour Homme...a soapy, citrus bomb that smelled even better when sweating. Thanks for sad little woody comment...how did you not crack up?
Great list. I totally agree with Bentley as number 1. Great boozy, manly 💪🏼, affordable scent. Disappointed not to see Lapidus Pour Homme. In my opinion its a classic, manly smell that lasts forever.
To me these are some real back in the day masculine scented fragrances: Paco Rabanne Quorum Azzaro Aramis Versace L Homme Lapidus Boss (Original) Givenchy Gentleman Chaps English Leather Grey Flannel Tuscany Tuscany Per Uomo Antaeus Egoiste
Bentley Intense, such an awesome uber masculine scent. Gucci Envy was many years my favorite raw, unmistakable masculine fragrance. Too bad is discontinued.
Please add or atleast mention: Azzaro-Pour homme + Paco Robanne-Pour homme + Chanel-Pour monsieur + Houbigant-fougère royale + Floris-Elite and Floris No.89 + Cartier-Santos + Dunhill-For men. Good Job. *** Edit: Givenchy-Xeryus vintage + Hugo Boss-Boss Number One
